Next year
As a Flames fan, I consider this trade simply for a clean slate. If there's a GM change they might feel the same.
However I could also see Calgary holding him to hope this year was just a fluke, but if it wasn't then he's even harder to move next summer after two bad years.

Timo Meier is a very good player.
Is he worth a middle six forward, B prospect, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? Not by a long shot even with retention. Or at least not from the Flames as they won't be able to re-sign him.

TDL Selling

I based the deal off of the CGY-MTL Toffoli trade last year.
A 1st, a decent prospect, a cap dump (this one is larger), and another pick. Maybe remove the condition where it can go all the way to a first, but I don't think it's far off.

I don't think it's ideal but one year $1M isn't a dealbreaker. I think Stankoven would be a really good add as a prospect and Dallas would be a good fit for him.
There's probably a way you can add a $1M player to the deal to make $ work.

Yeah I had a tough time with the pick valuation, but I don't see CGY including their 1st in any way since BT said it was basically off the table for trades after the Monahan move last week.

For me, if the Jets start poorly you could probably get them to retain and take on the two younger players. His two years left fits this window for the Flames and it just seems like a great scoring fit to round out the top 6.

I think that's a realistic package for what Chucky would probably get in a trade. Since you're also getting Severson, what would your appetite be to get Tanev instead and make an even larger mega package for the Flames?

Has a solid year with Florida, gets 3x3 next year on a worse team. Good move for both sides but shocked that nobody offered more. I thought he'd easily surpass the $1M mark.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeraltofRivia</b></div><div>That first round draft pick being top 10 protected seems pointless. As a Flames fan, you never fully know with this team. Smart of BT to have a very "just-in-case" clause if things go off the rails.

That one Habs guy will go the grave screaming and shaking about how "It should've been a first and Pelletier!". Solid trade for the Flames.
Edit: Oh nice he's right below me.

Explain the offense that Dube is providing? I'd take Toffoli all day over him. Strome trade would be after the season.

The first line has been the least of their issues this year. I can't see PIT selling since they're comfortably in the playoffs. CGY previously had interest in Zucker and it feels like PIT is willing to let him walk for next to nothing. His advanced numbers are still good so it could be a solid cheap add for them to round out their middle six which they need without moving big assets.

I intended this as the Flames probably shouldn't give up more assets to get Hertl after giving up a lot to Dallas already. It's probably a decent package for Hertl on its own though.

I don't dislike either trade on its own, but if the Flames managed to get Pavs from DAL, I don't think they should/would give up substantial assets for Hertl as well. I also imagine Dallas might be looking for a bit more youth in their package but overall the assets going out seem okay.

Attempt at a new greenway trade
I don't know a ton about Greenway but I would consider giving that a long look. The other question would be what you think his potential contract could look like this summer as the Flames have a few other players that will need big raises (Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Kylington).

I think we would perhaps see a slightly younger B prospect like a Ruzicka or a Pettersen over Phillips but I think the main package is probably accurate.
