<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>UBS_ARENA</b></div><div>They arent rebuilding anymore and havent been for a couple of years. They were supposed to be coming out of the rebuild 2 tears ago and still havent made the playoffs.
Never did i say KK and krav should play 3rd and 4th line minutes. But if you want to say the rangers are going to make the playoffs in the east, those cant be your top 2 RWs. Playing 2nd line and 3rd line respectively is where they should be.
Are the rangers better than the devils? Imo yes, i never said not. But to say i lose credibility because i said they have a decent chance to be better tban the rangers is crazy. They very much do have a decent chance to be better.
Actually this skill player thing only doesnt work in the playoffs. Its why edmonton is a good regular season team but not a good playoff team. The reason they got those guys is because the NYR front office completely overreacted to the tom wilson disaster from last year.
As for strome 3 years ago he was at .5ppg. Thats not 2C level at all. But like i said its not a very big concern.
Shesterkin isnt an issue or concern. He had a solid season. It wasnt bad it wasnt spectacular, it was average. Will he continue to get better? Imo yes. I think in a couple of years he will be looked at as a top 5 goalie. But rn thats not who he is. Again not saying hes bad, which you seem to think i am saying if i dont say hes the greatest to ever play.
Again the rangers arent rebuilding and they havent been for 2 years. So saying a rebuilding team being in the top half in the league is just misinformation.
You said the rangers are a bubble team not a contender. But you also said they will make the playoffs. With how strong the metro and the east is, you have to be a contender to say they will make the playoffs.
How PIT is a toss up i have no idea. Theyve consistently been better than the rangers for the past 5 years. PHI significantly improved their defense and carter hart isnt going to have a sub .900 sv%. Its not going to be close to that. Both teams are still clearly better than NYR when you look through the roster.
BOS is not as good as they were last year but they completely revamped their middle 6 and pasternak is going to be better. I really dont know how you can say that NYR is better than BOS.
And your worst take of the entire conversation is that FLA is only good on paper. I guess you must think finishing ahead of TBL in that division is bad. Plus FLA only got better in the offseason. Added reinhart and lundell will probably play this year, and hes my pick for the calder. Everyone has FLA at over 100 points this season. Both analytical models and people who rely a lot more on the eye test, like i do. If anything said in this thread makes someone lose credibility its what you said about FLA.</div></div>
FWIW...the NYR are emerging from a rebuild...but aren't yet one of the 6 (or 7) Cup contenders....but reaching the playoffs is a reasonable prediction- even with Kakko and Krav as top 6 wingers. Keep in mind- a lot will have to go right for them to make the playoffs...but a lot will have to go right for any of the east conf bubble teams to make it....and I don't think it is unreasonable to expect the Rangers' new guys to step in and be productive, Strome to continue producing as he has, guys like Miller, Kakko, LaF, and Krav to take steps forward, Shesty to remain solid, and Zib to have a monster contract year. Now will this all happen? Maybe...or maybe not. But also is another year older for Pitt's and Caps' stars good to them- in a year with a compressed schedule? we'll see. PHI...do all the changes they made right the ship? Again...maybe- but just be aware PHI seems to be following the same path VAN and the Rangers took under AV. Can the NJD challenge? Got a real good collection of young talent...I just see Lindy Ruff holding that team back. In the Atlantic...BOS stars well into 30's- any slow down there yet? I'm not betting on that- but you have to consider. TBL- for sure not counting them out...but they lost their entire 3rd line. Does FL prove to be legit? Does TOR finally get it together? All I'm saying is almost every team has big questions to answer...and IMHO I think the Rangers can better answer their questions than some of the teams just mentioned.
Prediction: METRO:1. NYI, 2. CAR 3. PITT 4. NYR (wc) Atlantic: 1. FL, 2. TBL 3. TOR 4. BOS (wc)

Whats The Plan Chris
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BSpadaro83</b></div><div>you miss the point entirely. All those expiring deals that need to be re-signed are next years cap problem. The Rangers have ludicrous space this season and to do nothing with it, to not weaponize it all and just shrug and play out the year would be a massive missed opportunity on an expiring asset, in this case short term cap space.</div></div>
If they were to do what you suggest, it ties Drury hands to make deals during this season, if the need arises, so why do that? I agree spend the money IF IT MAKES THE TEAM BETTER, but to just take bad contracts to pick up some draft picks is not helpful if it limits what Drury can do THIS SEASON. What if they are doing well and in the playoff hunt and need cap space at the deadline? Better to have it instead of a few extra draft picks for future years. Cap flexibility is a GOOD thing.

Because he is never playing for your team again, he might be damaged goods, your owner is a cheapskate, your GM gave up all his leverage points and there is no one out there making an offer for him that comes close to what the Rangers are going to offer and nothing that is going to happen to force Drury to up his offer lol.

Do you really believe Buffalo could get any better offer than this? In reality, they will not get close to a deal like this, hence why he´s still there. I mean come on, there´s to much uncertainty going on with his neck for the conservative old guys that are in charge of this league. 10 mil on the cap in this economy has extreme value by itself. Kevyn Adams has no leverage in this situation at all, even if he´s trying to tell that story publicly. Next summer his NMC kicks in, Adams must trade him this summer. And you cannot have Eichel near that young core/locker room, that goes against everything Adams talked about regarding, wanting to be a Sabre and the importance of that.
Once again you are stating that Buffalo doesnt need any D. It´s crazy to me. You only got 1 RD for the future as it is. Filip Chytil could excel in a bigger role as the 2C. Kaapo Kakko is one of the best young players in the world, time for you to study som analytics man, because your eyes betray you. And he´s only 20 (!) years old. AND on top of all this you get a 1st round draft pick.

Where Drury Stands At Noon
Goodrow wasn't an overpay. Got him at market price. Goodrow and Blais are players the Rangers need. Enough with having 3 lines of high skilled players and the 4th line of undersized forward with "potential". They are building this team the right way.

Rangers don't need more help on the Wing. They need help at C.
While he may have started out as a C, he hasn't played there as much the last couple years.
Part of that is having Point and Cirelli on the Roster. But part of that are also his recent injury concerns.
Not sure how productive he could be as a 200 ft player down the middle anymore. And at that Cap hit, it's a risky gamble.

Kreider, Gallagher, Lee haven't been as consistent as Pavelski and their inconsistent PPG, limited roles (except Lee), age, etc all are red flags
You can use this season as an excuse but players like Pavelski still managed to produce</div></div>
For the next 3-4 years Kreider will have a similar production as before, there is 0 concern for this. Money well spent
Then, cap will 💯 go up with all the new tv deals, marketing plans. Making his cap hit even less an issue
Now if we needed to move him for any reason(cap space but unlikely using common sense to forecast the increase) we could move him very easily. He still produces goal, assists, hits, PP, PK, SPEED. Now will TOR want to add him? Possibly, but he will likely be dealt to a team like CBJ/ARZ/FLA (poor af) who want to pay players less than their cap hit.. Hence the rich teams front loading contracts. Now if for some unknown reason we needed to give more incentive to take him, poor teams need pics more than the rich ones do… draft capital can be moved.. it’s a very simple concept

Rangers need a more veteran presence. Buch was also on pace to score 72 points this year in a full 82, plays on the first team PP/PK, and adds a bit of sandpaper to the lineup. There is no way that we would give him up for KK AND move back 15 spots in the draft.

I guess the contract difference makes it more appealing to us long term, but that’s a tough one to swallow in my opinion. Wish Senko never hurt his shoulder.</div></div>
Not crazy at all.. despite popular opinion, Kreids has only had season after season with improvements and a few injuries that really weren’t something to be concerned with. His wage is where it’s supposed to be when you match him to players of similar age and style. He is FAR from a cap dump. Fans who think he is are clueless. Same goes for Trouba, 1M overpaid, sure.. but what he brings is solid.

No way. Trouba was way better than anyone not named Fox on the back end. Our season really suffered when he went out. He made noticeable improvements over his first season. He had to learn a new system with a sporadic coaching style, without a quality partner. We need to tone it down with the Trouba hate, it's completely un-warranted. He's overpaid, but it is what it is. At least we're not SJ.

But you're asking us to trade cost controlled assets to spend 12.3% of the cap to maybe address one center position. What are we going to pay Mika, Lafreniere, Kakko, Fox, Lundkvist, etc.? You're not being consistent.
Trouba is still a top 4 D man. He makes 3m too much. It's fine.

Your premise is wrong: NONE of us Anaheim fans thinks that we can get Eichel without giving up very significant assets, which is why none of us are hoping for an Eichel-to-Anaheim trade. For example, here we're giving away a franchise goalie who ensures that we will have no concerns over that position for the next six years (value = 2 first-round draft picks), a former first-round pick who is our projected #3C for several years (value = less than a first-round pick), our leading scorer from last year, anticipated to be our #1 LW for the next half-dozen seasons (value = more than one first-round pick), and the third overall selection in this year's draft (value = 2 first-round draft picks).
