Thread: Iafallo

I would highly recommend that they don't, but the team is convinced (I'm not) that they are a strong contender and in win now mode. They will likely be overpaying for someone. They gave up a first and two 2nd round prospects for a year and a half of Muzzin - before they were in win now mode and with no retention. I think that being a rental bothers the Leafs less this year because they would have difficulty protecting any non-rental in the expansion draft anyway (as I assume they protect 4D along with Matthews, Marner, Tavares and Nylander).

So the Leafs' want to bring in a guy who can play in the top-6 who they think will put them over the top. Rumour is that Granlund is a player they have been after. Iafallo has come up as well. In both cases they will want retention. What does Toronto have as a trade chip? Not much. They will not want to subtract from their current roster (other than someone like Engvall who they will likely lose on waivers anyway). A late first round pick for a draft where teams can't really scout players is not going to be worth close to as much as it normally would be. To me that leaves Sandin, Robertson and Liljegren, and I think that the first two are the much better choices for LA. If it was Iafallo (retained) and returning Toronto's 3rd (from the Campbell trade) for either Robertson or Sandin (probably with Engvall thrown in) I would do it if I was LA. If Toronto won't agree to that then I think it is best to keep Iafallo.
