Jets if Bones Wasnt Stubborn
I don't mind the top 6 changes to try to get things going but mostly because it implies that Vilardi is game ready (soon).
Heinola in for Schmidt is a bit of a stretch for me as he has been a decent 3rd pairing defenseman with Samberg this year. However, I do like the idea of sitting Pionk for a game or two as the guy needs a reset and hopefully he can bounce back.

Bad contracts for veterans and picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>glarson17</b></div><div>I don’t see San Jose taking on a contract with an extra year and is ultimately more money. Unless there’s incentive there’s no point</div></div>
I’d do an Anderson for Vlasic swap from the Sharks perspective. It’s only 1 additional year and it’s a lower AAV. The incentive is that the Sharks can possibly try to rebuild Anderson’s value and then flip him for a pick while also helping to clear some of the log jam on LD.

lets be real, hyman would never score 50 goals in Montréal. even when playing with matthews and marner he was not close.

well, posters are right to do so. I don't think many are saying, "this guy is signed through his late 30s, therefore the contract will be bad," but more of, "that's risky." And it is. Of course it is. the vast majority of contracts like that do not age well. we see teams paying to move guys, we see buyouts, and we also see some of them work out. This site is called capfriendly....most of what we're talking about are cap implications, and the underlying economics of the league from a stance of risk.
Take a guy from my team like Pastrnak. I'm thrilled to have him on my team, but I of course acknowledge that its unlikely he's going to be worth that contract in the last few years. I'm still happy they signed it, it's just the cost of doing business.
It's kind of naive to buy a car with 160,000 miles on it and think, "this will age well." Same is true of NHL players. foolish to ignore aging trends and the data we have.

i wonder, if he get traded the deadline to a contender and plays a cumulative 40 between 2 teams, does it count?

Get Ovi Over The Hedge

Yeah I can see that - he is getting 2nd line minutes now (around 17-19 min a game), but the Caps do play everyone pretty equally for the most part (or try to). If he gets anything above 4m (which I highly doubt), that would be too much

While I agree it seems like too much, he won't get less because Protas is getting 3.3m - he won't get paid less than him.
A lot of Caps fans really really like McM - I've never been too high on him...he is definitely a solid 3c though and with the cap raise, 5x3.5m for a younger, more offensively skilled Lars Eller, I'd take it

There are studies that have shown on average NHL enforcers die 10 years younger than non-enforcers. He may have had problems before, but to say being an enforcer is irrelevant is wrong.

The gap between higher cap/lower term and lower cap/higher term is not close enough to me for Minny to accept. 7M over 2 years is WAYYYY worse than 2.1 over 4 more years. I don't think either team is too worried about actual salaries here. Its just the cap difference is too monumental.
Lee's contract is a burden. Gaudreau's is an annoyance.

Not to mention, Perfetti would be buried as well. So I’d rather keep Schneider

how far has PLD fallen
Savoie wouldn't be going without an extension. Rental players, rental prices. Reasonably speaking, it's easy for teams fans to say "well you can always re-sign him", but it's not that simple. Buchnevich is a Russian born and raised hockey player, Buffalo has made some decent strides to fix their reputation as a clown show organization- the locker room is no longer a toxic mess, and the roster is brimming with first round talent- but buffalo does not have the allure of many other cities. If you were an American hockey player going to the khl, would you wanna play in Moscow or st Petersburg, or the 50th biggest city in Russia with a very small/no American community? Trying to be reasonable here, there's no way I'm just assuming that if we trade for him, that he agrees to sign a reasonable extension just because we overpaid when we traded for him.

Nothing wrong with the offer. He won’t be buried for much longer. He will sign a bridge deal and then they will swap him and Trouba. Then their next contracts will essentially swap cap hits.
