More like treading water....add some solid vets on short term deals and don't make a panic signing B's will regret. Keep looking for top 4 LD and make a deadline deal once exact need is determined. Lots of money come off the books next year so stay fluid and pliable to make deals

Good for him if he gets it. Each player should max out and take care of their future/family. I just think the flat cap will bring some prices down. In this exercise, B's would need goalie to share duties with Halak...I preferred Doby but he is playing lights out and may have priced himself out. Who would you choose to pair with Halak and why?

What incentive do Nucks have to make that trade? None. Any trade for Boesser is going to have to involve Carlo or they are not interested.

I think Chara comes back for 1-2M or he retires. He deserves to go out they way he wants to. If he comes back he is 3rd pair/PK specialist at most. I expect Gryz and Cliffy to make leaps. I don't see Gryz getting more than 3.25M. With flat cap I don't see big money being spent unless they are a top tier talent. It will be interesting to see what the post covid market will be. I expect GM's to be bearish.

Certainly wasn't me...We can all agree to disagree. It is unfortunate for Moore as regular time may enhance his value and sharpen his skill. I agree with @McGruff that he was insurance to help stabilize backline between Chara and kids. He essentially slotted into McQuaid's base salary. The kids thankfully bloomed. The term is where I have issue as 3yrs would have been a nice bridge. They can afford to hold onto him to start the season as insurance but he deserves to play. Like @McGruff wrote, maybe he'll factor into the expansion draft. Regardless, this will be his last year here...

Dude, you are a hypocrite. You traded him to the NYI for a 7th rounder. I add Kuhlman, who is blocked and will not see the ice , to get a 5th back. My scenario seems more realistic. For a team to take on salary and term you need to incent them.

The Bands Back Together
I'm thinking Gry slots just below Carlo and Debrusk just above Heinen... Good Krug comps would be Giordano and Provorov both at 6yr/40.5m for 6.75 AAV. Doubt Nordstrom will be back. Like to Lauko in that roll.

It would be nice if Freddy can elevate to 3C! The Kuraly 4th line would play more minutes than the 3L anyway...Either way, it would give the B's good strenght down the middle and Trent adds toughness. I'm torn on McAvoy...contract wise. He is Group 1 RFA. The deal must favor B's just like Pasta's did and the B's slot players accordingly. If it's 7.2M then it better be for 8yrs. I think Werenski signing will be a good barometer. McAvoy should slot about .5M less AAV.

Yes, just good ol' sarcasm. No dig on Backes. He is a true pro...Sweeney/Neeley put them in this position. I just assumed they would try harder to move the contract. They gave a 2nd and 4th for a Jojo rental...I would pay a 1st plus prospect to rid the Backes contract.

You have to give to get...I personally think B's will stand pat and hope kids florish as they are cost controlled. However it is fun to dream about adding high end talent in a fair trade. Krug has a high cap and will be a casualty soon enough. Chara, Moore, and Grzlyck lock down left side with several LHD in their system being groomed. Donato has name recognition but their is a logjam at LW. I personally would rather keep DeBrusk, Heinen, and Bjork. Not sure if Donato will bring the jam and skating ability. JFK is a redundant throw in as Studnicka and Frederic have leapfrogged him on the depth chart...we can date to dream! Hey, congrats with Leafs adding Tavares! They will be fun to watch.

Yup, that's about it. Big camp for Frankie V. with Heinen, Agostino, etc pushing up behind him. A bit worried about a Vatrano/Spooner combo but hopefully both learned from woeful end of year performances. Overall very realistic....excited to see what Bjork can do on top line. Should mix in well.

I would still sign Morrow/Subban on 2 way deals and assign them to AHL. If C.Miller gets selected by vegas then Morrow would be 7th dman.

Brekel's Mock Offseason 5.0
The logic is on point as palhal indicated. Minnie might be amenable to a "futures" laden deal for Brodin or whichever Dmen they leave exposed. That would give them assets without affecting their tight cap. A cheap plug and play guy like Vatrano, who does not need protection, can replace a wing that slides into the 3C slot. Add a young Dman with upside and maybe upgrade the pick to this year's #1 and "git'er done"!!. I like the Beleskey salary dump with an added pick (epic Sweeney fail). The system is flush with prospects now and B's need some relief. You could also spin McQuaid out west for a 4th or sign Iggy or vet for a year to hold RW spot for Senyshyn.

Quoting: palhal

Waive Hayes? You must assume there would be no takers just for cap reasons. So Virtanen who probably doing well as the third liner in Utica is now with Bergeon and Marchand.

I doubt there is a trade for Hayes unless B's add a sweetener to Vegas. He will be bought out or traded since he is in last year of contract. Virtanen is my pick to click as top line RW as B's will fill from within. B's like to roll lines instead of top loading and typically pair off two player and add a complimentary third to round out lines i.e. Marchy/Bergy and Krejci/Pasta. They can get by with some youth there just like Carlo was paired with Chara. I don't see them landing a UFA with term but would be fine with a Vrbata type signing at 2-3M to fill top line RW. However, I think that spot will be filled from within. Insert your own candidate.

Quoting: BreKel

Exactly. He'd be perfect for those two. Having a guy to create space but also one who has skill with those two would be solid

I'm good with that. Trade our problem for theirs as a change of scenery would benefit both Spooner and Virtanen. It could be a prime time to pluck Virtanen coming off some low point totals in Utica. He provides some upside with size, speed, skill, and some attitude for B's needing a top line RW. He also could really push Senyshyn who may need a year or two in AHL. B's are already stacked at LW with Debrusk and Heinen breaking out in the AHL playoffs so RW depth would be nice.
