If Iginla was available at 12, why would CGY trade back? Draft the best player in our teams history's son? Makes sense to me

You had a entire team to sign last year and withput the ltiretired contracts ypu would be finishing this season 10+ million under the floor.
It will be the same issue as last season. Trying to find guys worth paying the amount of money needed to even make the floor will be almost impossible

Good thought. The LTIR doesn't affect the cap in the 24/25 or 25/26 if the salary and bonuses don't go over 87.7m in 24/25..
But you're right.....Arizona might go "LTIR hunting" this summer.

After last season and how well he's doing this season this contract is well deserving especially for a middle 6 forward

Not quite a rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AdamL188</b></div><div>i asked the MTL subreddit cuz I didn't know his value lol, they told me abt a 3rd round pick</div></div>
Nils Lundkvist is the most recent young RHD for picks trade I can think of and brought a 1st and 4th.
IF Montreal were to trade Barron for pick(s), it should be for a 1st at a minimum.
There are a lot of fans who are not on board with proper rebuild and development, that have no patience for grooming a young player into an effective NHLer over time.
They might be willing to throw away any player not having an immediate impact in order to rush someone else into that spot (Mailloux and Reinbacher) and those will be the same fans who complain when we trade a promising young defenseman for the next Gomez or Drouin, while that defender goes on to realize their potential elsewhere.

It would be such a bad look on Kent Hughes, considering the "reported" deals he refused for the 5th overall pick (Cutter Gauthier being one of them), not to mention all the offensive talent they passed on to pick Reinbacher.
For better or for worse, I believe MTL are too committed to Reinbacher, at least for the next 2-3 years until they have a good idea of what he's capable of doing in the NHL.</div></div>
Very good points. But let's say they get to their pick and Levshunov is sitting there and all of Celebrini, Demidov, Lindstrom are gone, do they do this?

Some Final Upgrades
I was reading about Raty and scouting reports say his skating is problematic. This has been the downfall of many NHL prospects in recent years and the Habs especially have publicly said they want to play a speed game.
While a Center for Xhekaj is the ideal return, this does not seem to be the right deal.

Yeah I totally get that. These young top prospects are the hardest to let go, even for a pro like Werenski. And the cap sure would require some finessing to make it work, good point.

An Elias Lindholm like trade for Sean Monahan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KiSS_My_Asthma</b></div><div>I would think that Monahan's value is less than Lindholm for the sole reason that Monahan missed so much time last year, health has to be a bit of a concern. Am I off base?</div></div>
It's true he has less value (though that could be offset by being more value/dollar), but mainly because Lindholm is a candidate to re-sign while Monahan is more likely to be a pure rental.
Their perceived value also differs and the injury history is part of that.
Monahan's injury problems are behind him for now, but his physical ability will regress sooner due to surgical hip repairs.
Everyone is different but he's still on a timer.
It's not an immediate concern unless he suffers an (unrelated) injury which also impacts that hip area.
Bottom line is that he's good to go for now but you'd want to think twice before offering him an extension, especially one with term.

Turcotte was offered to the habs
I didn't see it say the Kings made an offer?
Only that the Habs received an offer of a former 1st round pick with 2nd line potential for Xhekaj. It didn't specify which team the offer came from.
They declined.
Rumors are rumors but a former 1st rounder doesn't necessarily mean something good.

This is what Avs fans see with all these Monahan nonsense trades
I assume Monahan will get similar to Barbashev. That's my biggest comp for him.
Barby got a very late 1st round prospect from the year before.
So 1st round pick, or Ritchie or that defensive Russian guy they drafted or Olausson.
But it is an OR not an AND.
And that is also best case scenario in my mind for Montreal.

Except he isn’t past his prime, he is the same age as Mackinnon…
And he is playing really good right now…
And he has a cheap contract…
And Reinbacher is better than Olofsson…

NCAA players the Habs probably fail to sign
For Tuch, if he expected a contract any earlier with his performance and in his draft position, his issue is either poor self evaluation or poor advisement.
He needed that extra year to show he is potentially worth the investment.

ovie wants out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MountRoyal</b></div><div>I actually have no idea ... is he injured? Just finally ageing and slowing down? Or unhappy? Or unlucky this year?</div></div>
Lost Backstrom and Knutzy regressed faster than Ovie and his new center, Strome, scores more than he sets up.
Ovie badly needs a "wizard" to play with.
And yes, new coach, older age, injured, weaker shot and an unwillingness to adapt his game style, I said it before, Ovie needs to become a garbage goal scorer now, like Dino or Andreychuck, he can't sit still and blast pucks like Hull or Bossy and he isn't fast enough to skate into the zone and shoot like Gartner or Leflower.

TDL options
I love the idea of capspace + Monahan for Gauthier since I did something similar on new year's day:
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/4785670
But IMO MTl is taking too much money back here. TB can keep Sheary (with a full NTC), and even take Wideman, and still be able to afford 50% retained Monahan.
