Edstrom does not = Struble at this point. Struble is exceeding expectations with the Habs in the NHL right now, he's been a revelation honestly, no way he gets traded right now

Defence in Shambles
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>Montreal has a ton of dmen and depth. They got Kovacevic off waivers last year. 3rd round pick is already generous for him.</div></div>
They picked him up for free its true, but he is valuable to the Habs for all the reasons the Leafs do ... he's a very big body on a good contract. He quietly goes about his business in his role. A late 3rd in 2026 might, at best, yield a serviceable NHL defenceman in time for the 2030-31 season. Habs pass.

Its interesting but a risky proposition considering Knight's performance this year has regressed, possibly for how his development has been handled versus his actual talent. Habs already have Cayden Primeau who has a lesser pedigree but a similar development path of being misused a bit. So I think from the Habs perspective maybe take out the 1st but attach conditions to the 2nd whereby it could become a 1st if Knight plays a certain number of NHL games for example. If he stays floundering in the AHL as he is now, no first.

Trying to save the season
Josh Anderson is struggling a bit but Habs have abundant cap space so no need to shed his contract urgently; at least he can still play an NHL shift at least. High picks and prospects would need to be added.

Compensation
No reason to pay to dump Anderson given the abundant cap space this team actually has ... Habs always have tons of injuries, keep him since there are no cap implications in doing so. Or buy him out. But don,t spend assets just to dump the contract.

Despite not providing much offence, Caro is an excellent defenseman signed at a decent cap hit. he can eat big minutes and play a shut down role, not to mention being prime-aged, providing great size, and signed for 4 years. He'll cost a fortune to pry away. Anyway, Boston is competing right now and they will only be looking to add now while their window is open

Projected to be but isn't yet, and we have seen players have stunted development in Montreal ... I'd be happy to have him but its a lot to give up. Take out the 2nd and the 6th and then makes perhaps some sense

He did take a hometown team discount it seems... his contract is great for the team.
That being said, I like the value of the proposal</div></div>
Bruins a very competitive team in a strong hockey market ... he might be enticed to waive his clause for a team with a chance to go far ...not saying he would, but Boston could make a compelling case...

Its the same team the Habs have now but with Dach healthy. Allen is moved but with 16 million in cap space under this scenario, they wouldn't have to ...

Armia is a good player, don't know why Habs fans are so down on the guy.</div></div>
He's always been inconsistent but showed some promise for a while and was a beast in the playoff run a few seasons ago and we Habs fans were all very high on him then. His trajectory aligned with the contract he was given at the time, but he hasn't quite lived up to it. Part of that was that he had a few concussions over the last few seasons which seemed to have impacted his effectiveness (understandably, and every person recovers differently, or never do in some cases). But perhaps if he is fully healthy now and extra motivated by his brief demotion to the AHL, he can redeem himself in the eyes of most fans. Habs no longer have specific cap issues so his salary is less of a burden and there is a need for a big bodied forward on the roster, so I say let him play. Hoping he does well!

Pens
The Pens 4th line will probably get filled in by better opponents but given the strength of the top 9, they might not play much. They'll just need to add some better grinding depth players at the TDL if they want a deep playoff run, but it should be possible to do

No issue with this except Ylonen may not be traded immediately since there are no cap room or roster issues for keeping him. I could see him being a trade piece at the 2024 TDL however. This will be his last season to prove himself I think

Not unfair but Kovacevic was a bit of a revelation for the Habs considering he was a waiver claim, and he fits the Habs timeline, no real incentive to trade him for a future pick. Desmith is of course available for a cheap price.

Habs won't since they have more than enough cap space for him (over 800 million according to this capfriendly team) if Chicago declines.

A lower pick than a 4th would be fine too, not sure about the cap implications for the Canucks however. DeSmith traded to any team for some draft pick not exceeding a 4th
