I just pray we don’t end up such a mid team with player accomplishments, over team accomplishments.</div></div>
The individual vibe is what I get from Scheifele. There was one postgame interview where he said that he likes to hold on to the puck down low and slow the power play down because that's his game. When reporters followed up with Bowness, he said "[Scheifele] said that?" and looked visibly annoyed, as in previous interviews Bowness mentioned that he wanted the team to play faster and have more movement on the power play.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Pleasantly surprised with Namestnikov between niedreiter and ehlers last year, I’m getting excited about vilardi and scheifele and Connor, but probably way too early for that lol. Still wondering if there is matching 5x8 contracts sitting in a desk for scheifele and helly. Tune has changed a bit, without a major cap increase will be interesting to see what the interest is next summer if they get the to test free agency.</div></div>
Scheifele signed his long term deal when teams were still giving out the big money based on past performance. Now that Scheifele is older and has performed well, teams are now giving the big contracts based more on future projection. Ideally teams would only want to do 4yrs for both 31-year old Hellebuyck and Scheifele, but I agree that the Jets would give extra term to keep them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>So pulling for perfetti, but I bet he ends up stuck to Lowry for some reason, Namestnikov 2c and a surprising year. This team so needs a 3rd line without Lowry, and possibly perfetti between iafallo and Appleton or barren. So need to role 4 lines to have a fighting chance. Might not have the horses to do it though.</div></div>
My guess is that if Perfetti doesn't stick at 2C then Bowness may try putting in Vilardi in that slot. If that doesn't work then try Namestnikov, though by that point the season is likely lost if they are trying a third option.

I agree. Hopefully he's had a good offseason and has done enough things that to improve his speed and durability. Should be a fun plotline to follow in training camp.

I haven't been following whats been happening with Pinto in the offseason. Is this just the usual RFA looking for a better deal from the team or does he not want to be in Ottawa (or Canada)?

What kind of package is Winnipeg looking for
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I'm sure the asking price is high. It doesn't hurt to ask right? What the actual price would be is hard to say. Maybe things change if one of those teams (or other teams) realize their goaltending plan isn't working in the first two months of the season. It will be fun to watch.

By now Cheveldayoff and Petkau should know what kind of contract the market will offer Hellebuyck in the summer of 2024 for what will be his last contract. I could see Chipman ordering Chevy to pay over the odds in terms of AAV and term to try to convince Hellebuyck to stay.

Winnipeg isn't in a position to be making a push this year, especially if they trade 37 and 55. They'll likely just keep Barron.

If A Rebuild Is Out Of The Question then Resign Scheifele
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>If it came down to signing one of Helle or Scheifele it'd definitely be Scheifele for me, no way would I be signing Hellebuyck to some $8M+ ×5-8 yr anchor contract.
The best course of action is trading them both but this is an organization that's content with being mid so they might try to extend one or both of them.</div></div>
I have no reason to doubt The Athletic's reporting on Hellebuyck not wanting to re-sign or Hellebuyck's own words that all that matters to him is winning but here is a scenario where Hellebuyck might consider something like that. If the Jets offer $8 million x 7yrs and Petkau's information gathering says that Hellebuyck could only get 4yr deal in the open market (ends at 35yrs old), then he has to make the call if chasing a cup is worth giving up $24 million in this type of scenario.

Its amazing how quickly things changed. The 17-18 and 18-19 defense group had good size and skill.

Jets Retool
Barring any trades or season-ending injuries on defense this season, Heinola is likely in the minors as he is waivers exempt. So I don't expect Heinola signing an extension. I think he will probably do what Gawanke did this offseason, that is, sign with a European club with an NHL out clause and the Jets will end up trading his rights.
While the Jets haven't managed the asset well, Heinola using his Euro assignment clause instead of developing in the AHL allowed Samberg to leapfrog him on the depth chart.

That doesn't solve any problems for the Jets, as they have several bottom pairing defensemen in the organization.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Really, who would claim him? I have no doubt Chisholm can play but not sure who puts a claim in, the Yotes maybe I suppose, it worked out with Valimaki for them but he was a 1st round pick so that's a factor, teams are pretty full at the beginning of the season with their own guys so unless they get an injury it seems unlikely he'd get claimed but it is possible.
Losing Kovacevic is still baffling to me, like Capobianco is so important they didn't want to risk losing him?.. lol
Their whole "draft and develop" shtick isn't exactly working out too well when you're losing a drafted and developed player on waivers for a guy with 59 games of experience who looks to be a journeyman at this point.
I see Gawanke got himself a nice minor league salary, hope things work out for him with the Sharks.</div></div>
I don't know the needs of the teams of the teams at the bottom of the league but if one of them has a guy whose ELC they want to slide, then claiming Chisholm isn't a big risk. If the ELC kid performs well in the minors then they can call him up and waive Chisholm (who cost them nothing to acquire).
Edit: that is a nice deal for Gawanke.

Ohhh I see you have Chisholm as the 7th dman, yeah thats probably not happening, he'll be headed to the Moose and Stanley will be the #7 dman. It really seems like Chisholm's tenure with the organization is going to go pretty much just like his Moose D partners(Gawanke) did.</div></div>
I think Chisholm's future will be more like Kovacevic (claimed on waivers as the Jets try to sneak him through) but I agree that his time with the organization is limited.

The team most likely to give Hellebuyck an ugly contract are the Jets (enough to get him to re-sign). Cheveldayoff is about to start year 13 of his 5-year plan and even he must be wondering if Chipman's fierce loyalty has a limit.

The reports of Hellebuyck and NJD are centered around his contract price, but I'm curious what the Jets are asking for in return for Hellebuyck. I bet they are asking for Schmid which probably isn't going over well. lol.

I have my doubts at Perfetti as a centre, but maybe he bulks up and finds some speed in the offseason.
