Draft splash
Jets aren't likely to part with McGroarty. I think they like the idea of a power forward with a great shot and a potential future captain.
I don't think Hutson could unseat Morrissey as the PP quarterback next season. Jets have organizational depth on LD.

In lots of the TSN broadcasts of late Dan Robertson has dropping little tidbits about many of these guys going cold over quite a long stretch of games, not sure if he'd mentioned Perfetti though.</div></div>
I think Robertson made a comment about it after the assist Perfetti had on Barron's goal. Something along the lines if it being a simple chip into open ice but Perfetti will take the assist given his recent drought. It was a bit more nuanced than how I put it.

Lots of interesting players got selected after Perfetti, wonder what us Jets fans are going to be thinking about his selection at 10th overall in a couple years.. 🤔</div></div>
At least it will never be as bad as the first round of the 2015 draft that haunts some Bruins fans. Its a low hurdle to clear, but I'll take it. ;)

The only upside is that the Jets were able to be a bit more aggressive with the cap as Perfetti's cold streak probably means he will miss alot of bonus targets. This two month cold streak of 2 points in 20 games is brutal (he started with 29 points in 40 games).

There is still time for Perfetti to fix things ike strength and speed. I remember one training camp Morrissey bulked up but admitted that he didn't strike the right balance and it cost him some of his mobility and speed, and ultimately a roster spot out of camp.

He needs to improve his strength and speed. He is getting thrown around out there and it is only the regular season.

I agree that some time in the AHL would serve McGroarty well like Copp and Connor.
Even if Michigan goes to the NCAA finals, McGroarty would have the chance to play an NHL game to burn the first year of his ELC. I could see the Jets using that promise to get him to turn pro (similar to Copp who played one game at the end of the 14-15 season). Then they can have him join the Moose for the AHL playoffs if they make it and/or tag along with the Jets when the Moose season is over.

Well in Logan's situation I'm just not sure there's anyone really interested, like is Chevy really just holding onto him till the bitter end in hopes of getting a decent return for him or Stanley turns a corner into an everyday player? Maybe thats the case but I'm not so sure.. 🤷♂️
I see many here just wanting to trade Stanley for whatever and open a spot for Heinola but is Heinola really getting in the lineup if Stanley is gone, doubtful, they're completely different players. Bones spoke well of Heinola but that could just be lip service, not sure he'd get the call if someone gets injured, most coaches are gonna prefer to have a big body who can PK on their 3rd pair then a small puck mover who might not even get 2nd PP time depending which dman got hurt.
Stanley isn't amazing but he's okay and I see value in having a big monster on the backend when it's required.
As for Perfetti I wouldn't trade him for a UFA but he'd totally be available for the right return.</div></div>
I think the return on Stanley and/or Heinola would be similar to that of Roslovic -- could have been a respectable return if traded a few years earlier but will end up being around a 3rd round pick if they wait too long.

As a Jets fan, I feel compelled to type: #FreeVille
That said, I don't see this trade happening as Cheveldayoff is really wedded to his prospects. Bowness said that if Heinola didn't get injured he was going to be in the opening night lineup, so the coach likes him. I guess they will be treating him as backup depth once rosters limits are lifted.

Lambert would also be an interesting call up once the Moose season is over... they are just on the outside of a playoff spot.
McGroarty's postseason isn't set in stone yet either but looks ok. Last week Michigan was 16th in the polls though the pairwise rankings had them in a NCAA tournament position at #13. We will probably have a clearer picture when the new polls come out (today?) and the Big 10 tournament starting the end of this week.

I think the time to make a decision on Schmidt contract is in the offseason. The problem of doing that now is that you have to replace (just before the playoffs) half of a 3rd pairing that has done well this season.

I think the Jets would trade for Edmunson to use as depth/injury insurance. Not sure what the price would end up being though.

I'd rather the Jets acquire a depth defender than depth forwards . If McGroarty turns pro, that could be a useful addition to the forward group and Lambert is having a good season in the AHL. I don't think there would be much interest in Harkins, as the Jets put him on waivers and when they could have reclaimed him a few weeks later, they didn't.

I agree as Kuznetsov's agent said they were looking for a fresh start. If waivers don't result in him being picked up then if he's willing to take the financial hit a mutual termination may be in the cards now or more likely in the offseason.

Actually, I put in the incorrect values initially (used wrong amount of season remaining) so the calculator puts the value of the retention at 146th overall pick or 5th round, pick 18.
Inputs:
$1.25 million annual cap hit traded
21.875% of the season remaining on trade deadline day
So the trade with retention would be a 2nd and a 5th.

If I have used the <em>PuckPedia Salary Cap Relief Calculator</em> correctly, the $1.25mn retention is worth the 64th overall pick.
Edit: correction it would be 146th overall as it is only 21.875% of the season remaining on TDL day (added post below with correct inputs)

Perfetti probably needs a game in the pressbox to reset. Worked well for Schmidt earlier in the season.
