Yeah, I saw that just now. Seems its true, it just doesn't make any sense to me.
Its like the Josh Anderson thing where GMs have this weird fascination for one of the worst cap dumps in the NHL. I just don't get it sometimes.

Trade deadline that will likely happen
“Hagel style” trade only happens when the player is signed long term at $1m annually.
This is moreso a “Bagel style” trade since it has 🥯 percent chance of happening.

Jarry would not be available even if MAF does come home. You don't dump a young 2 time all star goalie to replace him with a guy who'd be coming home to finish his final year or two. MAF would be the backup in a 55-25 split.

Anderson has scored more than 19 goals just once in his career, 4 years ago. He has scored more than 32 points just once in his career, 4 years ago. He's a cap dump.
Keep him.

If Stuart Skinner went 11-3-1 in his next 15 starts with a .939 sv% and 18 goals saved above expected, and the Oilers were in a playoff spot, would you trade him for picks?

It would only be a short-term thing until Nurse was healthy AND the Oilers completed a trade for either De Haan or Lindholm, but it's hard to argue with the following logic:
1. We know that the short-term Tippett pairs I listed is a very, very bad blueline corps.
2. We don't know that running all kids and sitting the useless vets results in that same very, very bad blueline corps.
3. None of Keith or Russell are objectively better than the three rookie LHD.
Statistically alone, it's a significant upgrade (lordy is Keith REALLY bad based on numbers) but nobody in the Oilers' upper management is ready to have that talk or evolve the Oilers game to the modern transition style at anything faster than the speed of stink.

Only TDL move worth making
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>That's just stupid. Barrie isn't a cap dump and Manson isn't worth a 1st.</div></div>
I really hope he turns it around but Barrie has just had an awful start to the season. Out of the 5 defense that played in all 5 games, Barrie has a 5v5 xGF% of ~40%. The next lowest regular dman is 55%. The stats pass the eye test as well as it seems like he is constantly beat defensively. I take his offensive production as a grain of salt since he gets a good chunk of it in secondary assists. He does walk the line and distribute well but if he's not working it low to McD/Drai/Nuge it doesn't turn into the numbers he put up last year.
I do enjoy reading the Cult of Hockey in the journal and have notice the game grades he's gotten so far this year:
Vegas- 3
Arizona- 5
Anaheim- 3
Calgary- 4
Vancouver- 2
I can't think of another team that would willingly take that Barrie contract on without asking for an asset to go with it. When playoff time comes around, the Oilers would be better off with another RHD that plays both ends rather than a good PP QB that can't defend. In a vacuum I don't think Manson is worth a 1st but RHD always seems to be low supply high demand. I was thinking of the David Savard deadline deal in regards to compensation.

the draisaitl deal is just missing three 1st round picks, then you can add to that for your overpay. Given his contract Drasaitl may have the highest value of any player in the league.

How someone plays defensively is not subjective. It's very easy to quantify, depending on what you want to look at. Shot surpression, chances given up, high danger chances given up, etc... Josi ranks horribly in all of them (these are all only ES metrics). What's lazy is you not bothering to understand analytics place in the game! Most organizations use them, including Carolina, Toronto, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Los Angeles, Chicago, Florida etc

Ready to get yelled at
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bloodykisame</b></div><div>no they are trading koskinen away and getting geo not the other way. its a big upgrade.</div></div>
LOL.
Over the past 2 years, Koskinen posted a .910 save percentage to Georgiev's .908. And Koskinen's mark was dragged down by the beginning of 20-21 when Smith was injured and Holland screwed up the backup situation repeatedly, and it meant that Koskinen had to play every game of a wicked schedule - 12 games in 24 nights traveling thousands of miles through 4 timezones - which isn't something ANY goalie can stand up under. It wasn't fair to Koskinen but Tippett had little choice but to keep throwing him over the boards, so his results were poor over that stretch. I don't fault Koskinen for that, he did his best in an impossible situation.
If you pull those 12 games out of the equation to get a look at how he performs under normal circumstances, his save percentage over the past two seasons is .916, well above Georgiev's .908.
And before you blame NYR's defense, know that Koskinen faced 32.60 shots/60 to Georgiev's 31.99 SA/60 in all situations, and 32.34 SA/60 vs Georgiev's 31.03 at 5v5. Its not quality of shots either, as Koskinen has faced 8.50 HDSA/60 while Georgiev has faced 7.46.
It's a downgrade.
