(PHI/STL) - Hayes for 2024 6th (STL)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mondo</b></div><div>briere being an elite gm didn't last a month</div></div>
This is a very good move for Philadelphia. He just traded for over 10M in cap over the next 3 seasons, and he got a 6th round pick to do it. Hayes was "buyout proof" with a 12 team no trade clause.
Moves like this are ones that should be salivated over on a forum dedicated to following the salary cap. Hayes was a sunk cost. There was no market. Briere found a way to get out of half of his contract. Fantastic move.

(PHI/STL) - Hayes for 2024 6th (STL)
Sucks the Krug deal fell apart but doubt anyone was expecting a better return considering RyJo set the market a couple days before. A 6th is better than warehousing a buyout on the books for 6 years. In a vacuum it's heavily lopsided towards STL, but Hayes isn't a fit for the team or culture going forward. Rather have players that actually want to be in Philadelphia than those who whine and complain when they get called out.

Two different GMs. Hill was injured 70% of the year and Reimer and Kahkonen are clearly better. Yeah it looks bad but it makes sense for SJ to do this.

(PHI/FLA) - Giroux, Bunnaman, Rubtsov, 5th for Tippett, 1st, 3rd
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>Oh man I knew that Giroux was knee capping them by only waiving for FLA but this is a terrible return. Tip doesn't look good and getting a 1st in 3 years time rather than Mackie is just awful. Fletcher might be the worst GM in the league right now.</div></div>
Giroux was ultimately the decider in the trade. Can't really do anything but ask for Mackie. If Florida doesn't want to include him (and they didn't), his best option is to take the next best available. I'm not really holding my breath on Owen Tippett, but he's still relatively young and maybe the change of scenery will be beneficial. He also has red hair so that is a plus. The 1st rounder won't be here for a while but the Flyers aren't going to be contending anytime soon.
End of the day the Flyers got a 1st rounder for three months of Giroux. Still decent enough to make the move.
I'd actually argue that CF did a good job having so much smoke coming from Colorado even leading up to the initial announcement of Florida being the destination.

Philadelphia Flyers signed Rasmus Ristolainen (5 Years / $5,100,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>I thought the biggest issue with ownership and Hexy is that he wanted to wait longer to develop his players properly. Hart and Frost being the main sticking points. Ownership was desperate for Carter Hart to be ready, but Hexy wanted him to develop at a slower pace. Is that incorrect?</div></div>
Hextall was unwilling to move future draft picks or prospects to make the team better. They could have had a chance at Ryan O'Reilly or Mark Stone, but Hextall was unwilling to make the team better. They had Provorov and TK on an ELC, Couturier on his 4.33M contract, etc. and just waited.
Fletcher comes in and changes up the same core that hadn't won anything in the last 6-7 years. He goes in on Risto - an overpay in general, but the opportunity cost of not trying to make the team better would have been worse.

He's the reason they are in the current state they are in. Scott and Co are just re-arranging the lifeboats. Fletcher changed it up, had a solid team pre-Covid and they just couldn't put it back together.
Deal itself is okay for Philadelphia, it's just not the time to sign him. They need a full reboot.

(ARI/PHI) - future considerations for Gostisbehere, 2022 2nd and 7th
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zubrowka</b></div><div>This one hurts. Philly's FO really failed this past season in a lot of ways, including not providing Ghost with top powerplay minutes and then waiving him. Those actions were detrimental to his trade value and perceptions around the league. Simply put, terrible asset management with respect to this particular player. Now we pay the cost of it. Credit to Arizona. Ghost is good, and he'll prove it out there if you just pair him with a competent stay at home type partner, and use him on a 2nd pair and top power play. Enjoy the highlights to come.</div></div>
Gostisbehere had the most PP TOI per game this year for Philadelphia. Whether he was on the first or second unit doesn't really matter since the coaching staff usually sees them as 1A and 1B. He's pretty poor defensively and isn't reliable against rushes. He's also inconsistent in moving pucks out of the zone effectively. Pretty small price to pay to dump $4.5M for the next two years for a guy who isn't that good anyways.

Cool. I had no idea On the Laughton contract.
The basis is koskinen for ghost. Philly had no goalies to expose in expansion draft, and worst case they buyout one year or koskinen as opposed to two years of ghost if Seattle passes

Philadelphia Flyers signed Scott Laughton (5 Years / $3,000,000 AAV)
Solid deal for both Laughton and the Flyers. Laughton is a player who can play up and down the lineup and flourished last year in any role. He can contribute on the penalty kill, is strong on the forecheck, and makes small plays in the neutral zone that generate offense. A 30% raise and some term won't really hinder the Flyers during the offseason to make some changes. Maybe a year or two too long, but it's still beneficial for Philadelphia.
