Dreaming
If Catton were to be available, I can't see the Devils passing him up. I figure the Devils only trade down if it's just defensemen left and someone really loves one of them more than Fitz does.

Young Talent That Hughes Could Target
Not even close to value for Mercer. Devils can use next year's 1st if they needed, but not giving up Mercer for a mid 1st just to move that. There is like one goalie (Swayman) we'd move Mercer for...so adding in a 3rd as a kicker doesn't make any sense.

Kings back to the throne

I would do a late 3rd for Turcotte if I was desperate at center for my farm system, but I can't see buying much more because he was a high pick....you buy the player they are now, not what a team thought they'd be. If LAK didn't develop him right, it shouldn't be up to another team to pay for the opportunity to do what they couldn't.

AK is not worth a 2nd, or really right now an early 3rd on just the "buy for potential" argument. Devils pass.

I can't see why TB would want Palat back even for $3m. I know he was loved there, but seems like a bad move for them.

Lol. No man... Markstrom is not worth a top 10 pick (and in addition to, if Allen plays 40 games, a 2nd rounder that goes to MTL)

This has to be one of the worst posters around these days. Not a lick of logic to the trades. Nah, going to just give him the award. He's officially the worst out there.
Congrats!

I think the only way things change actually is if Nemec becomes the premiere shutdown guy and replaces Marino, and then Casey is more a high end 3rd liner. No idea what Hamilton will be by then.

There is nothing of value in there for NJD. We'd rather keep Marino.

The Devils are not a rebuilding team that they would trade a player for picks like this. It really comes down to Seamus Casey replacing him by then.

acquire a marginal centre and or D w cap space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DopeGM</b></div><div>If the 10th OA asset is just too valuable, which is fair, you just risk not getting a goalie before the next season starts. I like the gamble; ignore the 24 draft as a deadline, make your pick, and then start talking to the teams with goalies to trade.
It’s the kind of risk that puts the GM’s job at stake though, if a trade doesn’t come together, and you enter the season without a strong goaltending duo on paper, that’s the end of your job if you don’t ascend to the contender status that NJD has/should have.</div></div>
They still have a 2025 1st, I don't believe the focus should be on the 10th overall. I do think there are goalies that will cost less than a 1st like a Gustavsson from Minnesota who at least is younger. Minn could move on to make way for Wallstedt to get time behind Fleury. Markstrom is honestly one of the worst options out there due to age and contract.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DopeGM</b></div><div>I’m pretty sure that the NJD GM agrees with you about there being other goalies out there. But I believe, when push comes to shove, the 24 first will be the asset moved by NJ. Could be a 25 first though.</div></div>
The problem with the 10th overall pick is, there is no goalie I deem worth that in a deal outside of Askarov, but I imagine NSH is moving on from Saros to move to Askarov. The issue with solid goalies like Ullmark and Saros are neither can be extended before the draft, so with no guarantees, I can't in good consciousness move that pick without a guarantee. Any talk of "well they can talk about a deal before" means nothing as there is no legal recourse to an agent pulling out of a verbal agreement.

He's also only been in the league for three years. And Lindy was terrible to him. Ask most Devil fans this year and they were pretty happy with him and pissed Lindy just would punish him the first chance he got. I'm glad you wouldn't want him for what was offered. We are VERY happy to keep him.
So "congrats " your overpaid winger having more points.

I said he isn't getting "the" 24 pick, which is the one from the discussion previous. As in the pick in discussion, not "a" 24 pick.

I'm just talking about the DEVILS not giving up their 1st. If some team in the late 20s do, cool...but the Devils certainly shouldn't
If you look at the context of all of this from the beginning (and I mentioned it in the DeBrincat comment), you'll see this entire time I'm arguing why the Devils aren't giving up the pick as per mentioned by the OP in the trade on here.

How much evidence do we have of a goalie going for a top 10 pick in an expiring contract. So there is that too.
