I'd have to see what the 2025 draft looks like on depth as this would essentially be an 18th and probably be like a 23rd pick or so which isn't bad.
I do think there is a big drop after 12, so I'd rather get something really good at 10 than take a risk Fitz drafts two more Chase Stillmans. If 2025 is deeper and he might find another Mercer I could deal with it.

Yeah, this is a totally fair in terms of overpaying to make this happen. I agree with Exo however that as time goes on I think it's less and less likely for the Devils to trade down as it seems the quality starts to fall off after 11-12 depending on views of a few players. Devils are better off swinging hard on 10 as SOMEONE will fall there.

Yes, Devils should take this IF Samuelsson can find a way to play more than 70 games in a season finally.

NJD 24-25
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Your opinion on teams that won’t step up during the draft seems pretty short sighted. Both Detroit and Ottawa can easily deal with their one year contract players. All it takes is one of those teams with weak goaltending to step up.
Could argue the following teams will be in the market for an upgrade.
Carolina
Chicago
Colorado
Columbus
Detroit
LA Kings
New Jersey
Ottawa
Pittsburgh
Philly
San Jose
Toronto
Utah
Assuming that 1 won’t step up to lock in their goaltender before free agency seems pretty shortsighted to save a bonus payout on a goalie who is relatively cheap.
Several of those situations are better for a goaltender vs Jersey. I’m not quite sure why some Jersey fans have lost site on the actual goal of securing a goaltender. Ullmark is probably the best combination of age and cost on the market.</div></div>
And how many teams on that list would be ones that make no sense to trade for an Ullmark? SJS, Utah, CHI are just bad, they aren't thinking about an Ullmark. PIT is going to get a goalie as they get bad while they still have Jarry? Philly just got their Russian kid. Ullmark would waive for OTT? CBJ (also having to move Elvis?).
This is a stack list of teams that just don't make sense. If you want to add Markstrom to this conversation, he's already said he wouldn't waive for LAK but would for NJD and CGY fudged that up at the deadline and pissed him off. Markstrom isn't waiving for nearly any team on this list.
If CAR moves on from Anderson for a year, I'd happily go for him if CAR wanted to pay up for Ullmark early.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Lots of open cap room this year and plenty of teams with bad goaltending. Hope your GM ihas learned from his mistake last year. Isn’t the asking price for Markstrom Dawson Mercer?</div></div>
Again, name the actual teams that have A) the space for a goalie, B) the cap room for one, C) places Ullmark would waive to go...oh and one more D) The actual desire to win now they would pay for goaltending
I think it's totally overstated how many teams have all that.
And no...Markstrom doesn't land Mercer.
Teams can have bad goaltending...but if they are already paying another goalie $4m like OTT and DET, how are they finding a way to either dump that goalie or move them?

Curious to see how Calgary will negotiate with you with Markstrom being the only good option on the market (do you believe a playoff team goes with Askarov?)
The East hopes you are willing to assume Gus’s year last year was the anomaly.
If the Bruins are trading him, I believe it is going to happen with the 2024 draft. Timing shouldn’t matter at all if the objective is to get a good goaltender</div></div>
And who else is lining up for all these goalies that can afford them?

I would be doing the trade after July 1st to ensure the extension comes with the contract signed sealed and delivered, so would have to be 2025 and 2026 picks there

I hear that a lot from Leaf fans, but this is Fitz's team and shouldn't be doing the Leafs a solid in helping them take someone they certainly want to move for cap reasons. Keefe will like Lazar a lot, and certainly Palat, but rather fill out the 4LW with more grit and fight from someone like Trenin.

If the Devils miss out a target or don’t need a dman I feel like moving down could be beneficial. Someone like Sennecke, Brandsegg-Nygard, Eiserman or Helenius should still be available at 14OA.</div></div>
Overall, I want the BPA. I'd prefer them not to trade down, just saying I'd understood if they did.
They are in a situation where if they can get the BPA, they make it work as someone who can be a cheap ELC when they are fully in their window to win-now.

Devils don't need a bottom six winger like Jarnkrok. Rather have Lazar or even Bastian at 4RW, cheaper options.

Dvo is UFA next year and we don't really need to retain on his 4.5 million to sign anyone in 2024-2025. Then there's the fact that they already have a million pick and it's unlikely they would be interested to add more of those.
I mean, I'm not like oh that's a NO for sure. More like, I don't really see why they'd say yes? They are not signing Bastian next year so it's just kind of a weird move for us I guess haha</div></div>
As I said in the explanation, the retention would be someone else more than likely. I wasn't sure if MTL was going to dip into free agency to make any other steps forward.

Yeah, I think we posted roughly the same time.
I think you can go in an edit it. But even still, its not even close. OTT can get a much better offer even if I don't think they get as much as they assume they get. Kakko is a nothing burger once people let go of where he was drafted. And a 30th OA pick really is nothing much in a shallow draft (even if it is wide of random talent, the real breakouts end after 12)
