<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ansabch12</b></div><div>Not surprising what team doesn’t love an absolute fleece of a trade lol</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Natebarrette</b></div><div>I just don’t get where a 1st 3rd and good prospect for a rental(as of now) is a “fleece”</div></div>
I can explain that - there's a psychological reason for that, and it happens every year at about this time. The selling teams fanbases magically forget what deadline rental deals look like, and this happens. someone will come by saying, "first and your top two prospects!" or maybe its multiple first round picks. Last year canucks fans were sick over what they got for horvat, and sharks fans were nauseated by the meier return, even though both vancouver and san jose did really well for themselves based on established precedent for what deadline rentals cost. But their teams are bad, and they're looking for hope, so they lie to themselves. Humans are basically the only species that will happily lie to themselves to protect their psyche.
But it doesn't change reality, and you're right. Poitras and Lohrei with a first isn't a thing. of course it isn't. There have been some instances of a teams top prospect being moved for a deadline rental, but there isn't a first round pick going with it. So in a few days we'll see a first, a teams fourth best prospect, and a salary - as we always do, and calgary fans will be outraged for a day and then start telling everyone how this prospect that they previously said was unacceptable is actually the second coming, and that this was better than they expected.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>1. Zero interest in Merkulov, doesn't fit any team needs and isn't that good of a prospect.
2. That's simply not enough, just because your cupboards are nearly empty doesn't mean that the few things in there are worth a lot to other teams.
Come back when you are offering Poitras or Lohrei with your 1st</div></div>
how many times have you seen merkulov play and what are your issues with the player?

All this bluster aside, looking forward to the day where Calgary fans no longer assess prospects they’ve never watched.
I’m fine sticking in it to raise the price on Tampa Bay, but I think Calgary should hurry up before Boston makes the hockey trade and shows their intention.
There is no need to include Lohrei and a #1. Tampa Bay can’t and likely won’t be able to beat a deal that doesn’t include them. No reason to even engage it. Losing him is not an end all.

Agreed on the forwards... 4th line was much more productive with Beecher at the pivot. Steen and Boqvist don't do much in that role or really add anything to this team.
Richard's speed could be an asset on the 4th line - it would be a good forecheck combo with Lauko - Beecher - Richard.
I also like Heinen as the team's utility player could be a good rotation with Lysell and Richard to ease the rookie into NHL minutes/schedule.

Sens paid a 1st + pair of 2nds last year.
Chychrun has 1 year less of control and will be owed $7 million in real money next year despite being a $4.6 million cap hit. If anything the 3rd should be bumped to a 2nd, but its not far off.

Bauston Matthews
Truth be told, if Lohrei, Merkulov, and Lysell all hit, and Zacha is a serviceable 2C, I love it. Get rid of Shattenkirk and have Mitchell stay in the lineup, rotate with Regula, and maybe get a slightly more established 3LD than Seeler, but he's a fine add. The Coyle move may be tougher to move than that, but Ullmarks return is finally a reasonable one.
And Matthews at that money for 5 years is best case scenario.

That's not enough for those two.
The Horvat deal is the blueprint for Lindholm. A combo of the Hampus deal and Chycrun deal is the blueprint for Hanifin.

Sweeney did a good job in FA. Geekie is a sneaky good signing and can be a solid 3C if Bergeron doesn’t return. JVR was a great value deal too.
Bringing back Frederic and Swayman was huge.
I like bringing back Lucic too, but not sure what he has left. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
