Yeah nope. He's a good veteran leader and depth defenseman to keep in case of injuries and he is definitely not awful. I would rather have Staal than Marincin or an inexperienced Sandin playing in the playoffs.

True. I didn't notice that.
Well there are ways around it. 1) A bigger 3 Team Deal: Detroit can retain 50% of Staal and then a 3rd team can be used to retain 50% of Bernier and an extra 10% of Staal. Or 2)Two 3 team deals where in Trade 1: 50% of Staal is retained and another team retains 10% and then Trade 2: 50% of Bernier is retained by a different team.

Yeah but they trade for him if and when he clears so that they can keep the team under the cap by moving him through Taxi Squad and Lineup

Definitely Not Done Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>deys3232</b></div><div>You replaced Kerfoot with Brassard (downgrade)
You replaced Dermott and Holl with Hamonic (downgrade)
Yeah you picked up a couple picks, but you replaced a bunch of youth on the team with veterans
Dermott imo is already at/above Hamonic's level
Trading him for something that wont even help you for 2 years is a waste of talent</div></div>
The whole motive for the Leafs was to become harder to play against and that's exactly what Brassard and Hamonic do for the Leafs. Brassard is a slight downgrade over Kerfoot but you gotta understand that it reliefs cap for them and Brassard is not significantly worse than Kerfoot. Plus Brassard is much better defensively than Kerfoot. If you really think Hamonic is better than Dermott you got to get your eyes checked and Dermott doesn't fit this new playstyle the Leafs are trying to adapt. Hamonic is that guy who will play that nitty gritty style, block shots, and will easily make the Leafs harder to play against compared to Holl or Dermott. Plus Holl had a bad second half to the season last year. Hamonic and Muzzin will be that nasty defense pairing that no team wants to play.

I see Edmonton moving someone like a Chiasson to free up cap for Kerfoot. If you seen him in Colorado he played best on the wing and if you put him on a line of McDavid or Draisaitl you could probably see him get 50+ points.

I think that deal is pretty close. Dermott is 3yrs younger than Weegar and he will be getting paid less. Plus Florida is on an internal cap so they are trying to get as many guys as they can on cheaper deals and probably won't be able to afford Weegar if they want to still be players for the guys who are still Free Agents. Even then Leafs can still add more picks like another 3rd

Allows for Dubas to sign Mikheyev for 1.75 for 3 years and Dermott 1.25 for 2 years.
The other guy is Engvall as Vesey, Boyd, Malgin can all take his place.</div></div>
I really like Engvall especially because of his defensive ability and he's still young. And I don't know if realistically Dermott comes back on that cheap of a deal, I would think its closer 2-2.5M.

Who gets moved?
I personally want Kerfoot and Dermott moved. Kerfoot obviously because of his 3.5M cap hit and Dermott because I see him taking up time which could be used to develop Sandin. Personally, I want them to move like Kerfoot and Dermott for Copp (WPG) because he could be a solid young defensive 3C on a cheaper deal and it gives them cap space to bring back Mikheyev on a 1.5x2 contract.
This what I think the Leafs should cap off their Free Agency with:
