Markstrom and Hanifin
Markstrom makes no sense for NJ. He's 34 and is having his best season in years. NJ has a great young group that will be contending for the next decade as long as they add a goalie. Why buy high for a 34 year old? Why not retool this season, considering all the injuries, and contend next year? Trade for Saros in the offseason, who is 6 years younger. The injuries surrounding NJ (As well as the hockey canada case) have greatly impacted on ice play. I just don't understand what people think they can achieve by being buyers this deadline.

You want Chicago to retain on Murphy for 2 more seasons after this one, and you're offering a 4th rounder and scraps?

What to do Checklist
I think the underlying problem with this team is the top forwards don't work hard in all 200 feet. There's some games where you can't even tell they played. There definitely needs to be some sort of shake up in the forward core. A team with this top 9 should be more successful than they currently are. Goaltending is clearly an issue, defense looks good on paper, makes me wonder if the defense is similar to the offense, just inconsistent and doesn't work hard enough.

I don't think the hawks should have any interest in Zegras unless they plan on putting him on the wing full time. Even then, not an attractive player to acquire at the moment.

Detroit cant afford hanifin next year
Chicago can eat more salary than that, including players with 2 years left. Holl/Chiarot/Petry are all candidates. Hell, if Husso doesn't turn it around, he could be too. It's going to be interesting to see which teams attempt to shed cap and how much cap they shed.

Way too much roster turnover would likely lead to poor play on the ice. You're bringing in too many guys and replacing too many at the same time.

It's more about upside and age. Kaliyev has never had an opportunity in the LA top 6, is a couple years younger, and has a ridiculous shot. He has much more raw talent than Raddysh. Maybe a 2nd is too high a price, but we know KD is trying to move off some picks if possible, I can see something like this happening.

Raddysh has been worse, KD should've traded him last season when he was a 20 goal scorer. Would've been great trade value. Now, looks like there's no point in even qualifying him this offseason.

Historically a rental hasn't gone for two 1sts, ever. Hagel had an additional year on his contract. Pittsburgh isn't retaining on him either. Not sure how they'd get much more value than this.

Not sure Chicago trades 3 2nds for a late 1st. Seems like a lot to take on a $1.4M cap hit. They can just sign a free agent. Timmins isn't that special.

TDL adding depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTBF81</b></div><div>They've had a couple bad games, but overall, they've been good since mid-December. Vasy, these last two games not withstanding, has been excellent the last dozen or so, and given the injury/surgery and rehab, him struggling for a while initially wasn't surprising. Hanifin may or may not sign in Tampa, but that's more likely a summer move anyway, as Tampa shouldn't be overpaying in assets for him now. A few other moves would have to be made, but if Stamkos and Hanifin want to take a little less and play for Tampa moving ahead, the space can be there. It's a rougher season since some players like Sheary and ABB have sucked, a new defensive system was a mistake and they still haven't put it all together, but the team has drastically improved from where they were 2.5 months ago. They won't be able to coast the last two months like most of the last several seasons, but with a few solid depth adds to help tbe middle/bottom 6 and the blueline, the nucleus of the team can potentially get the support it needs. JBB will have to view the team as having no chance to take a position of selling or doing nothing.</div></div>
That's my exact point, this team is teetering close to "Having no chance". You have to beat a team like Ottawa on home ice. I just don't think they have the horses this year to make the deep run they're accustomed to making. One more injury to a key player and this season is pretty much over. They're that thin.

TDL adding depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTBF81</b></div><div>Stamkos is going nowhere and as long as they are in a playoff spot or in the mix, they'll be buying. JBB won't throw away a year in their window as long as he feels they are still capable of making a run. One bad game against a bad team doesn't change that thinking imo. They pronabaly won't make this many moves, but they easily could, and in the case of probabaly 3 out of the 4 players, would likely have them beyond this season, which is key in these trades and giving up even more picks/prospects.</div></div>
But it's not just one bad game. Did you hear Cooper's comments tonight? It's win 1 lose 1, win 2 lose 2. Their goal differential is +2, which is bad for any playoff team. Vasy has been inconsistent all year, Sergy is irreplaceable. Hanifin is reportedly interested in signing in Tampa, but with what cap space and trade assets can they bring him in? They really don't have the assets to make deadline adds in general. What are they going to do, have no draft picks? I can see this being a retool year where they cash in on trade value and restock the roster in free agency. They can easily contend again next season.

I can't see Tampa adding this much, especially considering they're in a wild card spot and the teams behind them have games in hand. I have to think they consider moving Stamkos at the deadline. As unrealistic as it is, Brisebois has proven that he's a wild card and will entertain anything. They could realize use a 1st in one of the next two drafts to either draft a solid prospect, or trade when they're in a better playoff situation.
I personally have a hard time doubting a team as elite as Tampa typically is, but they seem really off this year, and I don't know how they make a deep run with this current roster. A lot can happen/change, so you never know.

They don't really need 3 late 1sts... KD was trying to move some draft picks last draft because even he thinks they have too many. You can only draft so many prospects, you need to give them room to grow. Look at all the 1st rounders Buffalo drafted and they're still in the depths of hell.

I can't see Chicago gutting the roster after extending Dickinson, Foligno, and Mrazek recently. They clearly want to create a more consistent locker room environment for the younger players.

I don't necessarily agree. They have the worst prospect pool in the league. Even if they wanted NHL ready pieces, they could flip them. Bourgault will be pushing for a spot next season for sure. I don't think a contending team wants to trade young, current NHLers for deadline adds. Especially ones that have the potential to be a rental.
