GMJR is somehow being patient for the first time in his life
" I don't want Erod, Simon, Sceviour, Lafferty, McCann, and Jankowski to be my third line. the 3rd line for me needs to have a little offense and defense. Tampa had a great third line. depth that contributes and grinds with speed, skill, hitting, and grit is key."
Amen my brother Amen.

Poulin shouldn't play with Malkin.
Malkin can be defensively lazy. That's now what you put next to a rookie.
Crosby's line would be the only top 6 role that would work for him.
I like the idea of putting him with McCann and getting a decent center. McCann is defensively reliable, fast and has a lot of offensive pop.
They just need a decent center to put between them.

Biggest Change Roster I will make So likely not realistic here
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nights_King93</b></div><div>Your post had nothing to do with elite D-men. You referenced two generational center and implied that the Pens outscored people, not that MM and the team defense made the difference most nights.
The Pens had Dumoulin, Ian Cole, who you know very well now, Lovejoy, Daley, Hainsey. Guys who did a really good job on the backend. The Pens better defensive year actually came with Letang being injured. So no "stars" on the team D. Just great team D and a goalie that made you beat him on either a perfect shot or a rebound. He still does that when the games become large. Look at the Isles and Habs series the past two years. He isn't the reason the Pens lost. The Pens have the opposite problem of the Avs right now. The Avs are a little too hungry and overaggressive sometimes. The Pens skaters haven't had the same edge the last couple of years. You don't win a lot of playoff games scoring 0,1, or 2. The Pens hvae struggled hitting that magical 3 mark. The Avs have not. MM would be perfect for a team that just needs to be a little tighter on the back end. The Pens seem unwilling to do that for him but the Avs could be great for it.</div></div>
Well I guess you taught me! lol
Thanks for filling me in on some history :)
Regarding Murray, the issue I see is that he's going to want a big money contract just 1 year from UFA with arbitration rights. He knows that he's had a down season so wants to cash in now while he can still lean on his 2 cups. We have Annunen on the way in ~2 years so it might not be prudent to make any long-term big-money moves. A $6m goaltender signed throughout our cup window simply HAS to be a hit, because if he fails and plays at a backup level well then that's a huge dent in our cup chances.
Now, if the price to acquire Murray is reasonably cheap (i.e. not Burakovsky), and he is willing to sign a reasonable contract (<$5.5m x <5 years), then I'd think about it. But I doubt he takes that deal and I doubt JR wants what we would be offering for Murray.

Hjalmarsson Marino
There are four players on your roster I would consider trading Marino for, the rest are complete non starters. He's the Pens' future 1D and he's on an ELC. Nothing you can give outside of your core players would help the Pens get closer to a cup next year or into the foreseeable future than Marino will. Our window is now so there's just no chance he moves without an overpay

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nights_King93</b></div><div>The real point with the Lindholm trade is this. Package MM if you have to trade him. Tack on McCann, Jugs, Simon. Whatever the trading team wants back. I'm assuming McCann has by far the most value. Get someone real coming back. Looking at the roster, it has to be either a very good player coming in to be 3C or a very good young Dman to play 3rd pairing RD with the potential to be 2nd pairing within a year.
Don't just dump him.</div></div>
if you are looking for a 3C there is a good Chance Ryan is available this offseason, one of the best bottom 6 pk centers in the league. Sticking Lindholm on your 3rd line makes no sense, hes instantly the 3rd best forward on your team and should play on Crosby's right wing

How Good Is This Pens Team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MitchMarnerElite </b></div><div>You know, I’m concerned about this major slump Jared McCann is currently in. Almost 20 games without a goal, his offence has totally dried up. He’s not even gotten many quality scoring chances. Honestly, I like his game a lot. He’s got good speed, hands, he forechecks & is good defensively, but this is real concerning. Could the constant changing of him throughout the lineup at both center & wing be killing his creativity?
What’d you guys think?

I'm not really concerned about Mccann if Zucker and Rust are firing at full throttle like they are now down the stretch. McCann's a very versatile player like you said who can help us win without scoring. It's not like a Galchenyuk situation where his only value is scoring and he's a liability in his own end. He's basically a 6 foot 1 Carl Hagelin with Alex Galchenyuk's wrist shot, he's a great tool for Sullivan to have. I think one of the reasons why he's struggling is the fact that he was the 2nd line center for about two months did a very good job and then was forced back onto the wing once Sid got back and he hasn't really built any chemistry with a line yet. I'm sure he'll figure it out. Bjugstad is probably going to play tomorrow and he'll probably be the left wing on his line with Hornqvist on the left so we'll see how he does on that line.

85 MSC- Letang out Pietrangelo in
fans turned on him quick because unless like McCann he was making close to 5mill and being an actual liability out there. McCann despite the recent drought only makes 2.25mill and plays a good defensive role while also coming in for essentially brassard, sheahan and a few non-significant pick. Chucky was traded for kessel so his expectations were way higher

Revisiting The Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nights_King93</b></div><div>I think this could be said of any team. If Boston loses Krug or Mcavoy that D room becomes much different. Same with Tampa and Hedman, Sergachev, etc. Washington loses Carlson they are likely done, even if it would be just one round.
Pens have better d depth than most. CR has played a lot on teams that won cups. I personally still like Riikola.
Other than that, I think we are essentially in agreement on every other issue.</div></div>
That's fair. They do have a lot of depth there, but the constant impulse to move Johnson up is a concern should the Pens face that scenario. Riikola has more than held his own this year, but Sullivan just doesn't like the guy.

Revisiting The Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nights_King93</b></div><div>Sorry. Hadn't been on while I was absorbing that tough stretch... I think Rutherford and his choices are too early to tell. Ideally, the Pens need to at least get the 2 seed in the division again. That would be a small win. Then they need to have at least 6 playoff wins for these trades to be viewed as successful. Sheary and Rodrigues can go unless they fit in extremely well and want to stay on team friendly deals.
No issue with Marleau, although i hope he isn't playing 2nd line minutes in the playoffs.
The D is perfectly fine now as long as they stay healthy. Dumoulin and Marino in particular, as they just play smart and with confidence. Letang loses his cool too often, that is why they were able to get by without him in 2017. He is a risk/reward player.</div></div>
I don't usually like revisiting the deadline, as you never know what guys were actually available. Don't know much about Forbort, and Bennett is barely cracking the lineup on an average team. I think Kahun is way overvalued. Top-6 on a bad team I'll agree with that (Pens unlikely to re-sign him anyway which is why I believe he was dealt). Sheary opens up a lot of balanced line combinations and has chemistry with Sid. Rodrigues is a solid bottom-6 add and likely a necessary 4th line guy - Since Blueger is god awful at taking faceoffs. Defense should be in great shape now that JJ and Schultz can play third pairing minutes (and JJ good on the PK). The only scary part is if any of our top-4 defensemen get injured in the playoffs, we could fall apart pretty quickly.

A deal I think this team shouldve made

This year he has 6 and 20 with a -8.
On pace for 8 and 26 with a -11.
3 and 50 are +3 and +4 this season.
With the forward group we have, I'd rather a guy that isn't a turnstyle in his own end.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AFOX10900</b></div><div>I mean he's still actually decent offensively 5v5 (JJ isn't) but he is probably one of the worst d men at defending (JJ isn't much better tho)... I would take him over JJ in a heartbeat tho</div></div>
Plus Don’t you think he’d look good playing with a guy as defensivly responsible as Marino on a winning team like pit? I feel like it’s a missed opportunity. I still love Marleau. I’ve always been a fan, but due to how good our depth is when we’re fully healthy, I don’t see the best fit

I think Zucker will always be on the top line with Crosby unless they don't mesh. Which is unlikely as I think he's the winger they've wanted for Crosby for a long time. The move to get sheary will hopefully push Simon down the lineup. God I hope it does...

I'd slot McCann into the 3rd line center spot and put Kahun back with Malkin and Rust. Bjugs has been out way too long. He doesn't have a set spot right now.
