Competitive
Agreed -- this is more a concept of cap management than the lineup itself. The point is, this FA period could be a great opportunity for organizational scoring depth.

Scandella to MTL makes sense, but I think the Habs would rather eat more salary and give up a lower pick.

Nice, but I doubt Jordie would fetch a 3rd. Could be wrong.

It was a cap dump move. CGY rids themselves of the 4 something million owed to Frolik for the next 2 seasons. Also, Hudon is younger and had more points than Frolik last season as a rookie.

Yeah, I see a prospect coming back as part of the Patch deal.
Also, if De Haan doesn't hit the open market, I could see John Moore as a good fit for MTL. Puck mover, good skater, good vision etc. Could also play alongside Weber.

MTL turning things around. 18-19, 80M cap
There are a few UFA replacements if Stastny wouldn't accept that money or term (the term is what concerns me more). Also, a few solid RFA options, though MTL would need to obtain their rights. Lots of depth on the wings could facilitate that.

Thanks for the input. I don't believe this "quick 2 year retool" is possible for MTL (unless they manage to sign JT). of course i could be wrong, but look at the organizational prospect pool. Rather than building a team that will make the playoffs in 2-3 years and be bounced in rd 1 or 2, lets stockpile picks and young players to build a true contender from the ground up.

If this deal is to go through at the deadline, the Pens would only pay a pro rated percentage of his salary (which would amount to 550 k ish for the 20-some remaining games + playoffs). I could be wrong, but this is what I thought

2018-19 - Young Man's League
While I think Danault is underrated, I agree with you. RNH plays a very complete game; he'd be a killer addition, but he wouldn't come cheap.
Should also point out that in this scenario, the #2C slot would likely be taken over by Barbashev / Kyrou at some point

Yeah, that's the one I'm most uncertain about. FLA is deep down the middle and have money to spare, though. Unfortunately, if they were to trade Alzner, MTL may need to retain salary.

With all due respect, I think the "better move" is not moving Galchenyuk. The Habs have to be patient with him, the production will come.

They definitely need the help, but with such a thin prospect pool - especially on the back end, I'd be hesitant to give up Juulsen.

Hindsight is 20/20, but that doesn't excuse the overwhelming amount of obvious blunders and long-term crippling errors by this team's management over the years.

Quite possible. The point is, however, to show how the team without many of MB's moves would've been better off. I think that this team without Beau is still much better than what they currently have.

Team could've competed if they signed these two. They wouldn't have been able to get Markov for 4/per, but it's the right idea. Then they could've used the Plekanec money to extend Patch (if that's what was best). Incompetent money/player/prospect management.

He has made some decent moves, but he has also made some awful moves. Ultimately, the negatives outweigh the positives and the team needs a change of direction.
