Doesn’t matter what the retention is for, you still gotta pay for it. More than 20 million in retention wouldn’t even be entertained by the hawks to begin with but would have such a high price tag by itself that the leafs would never do it.

Theses trades are bad like everyone has already said. What I like bc a lot tho is signing montour, he’s probably be more expensive than what you signed him for but I think the hawks should ge all over him this off-season

The hawks will just wait until free agency, sign him to the same contract, and not give up two picks that will probably be top 10 or better

The hawks could probably be a potential playoff team in 24/25 depending on the development of their young guys and how much they do in free agency. Seth Jones will probably still be a pretty effective d man into his early to mid thirties

Putting a team around Bedard
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>That's idiotic. No team has a guarantee, not even the teams that have won recently. Anyone who wants to win would go to one of the top contenders and hope things work out; Edmonton is a top contender. Going elsewhere doesn't increase their odds and they know it. So the fact that they haven't won a cup does not mean that they'll move on at all.</div></div>
That’s exactly what it means, no one looks at the teams that got close they look at the teams that won. Edmonton hasn’t won and if that doesn’t change why would they stay. What’s going to change? They just paid big money to a terrible goalie so it’s not like they have tons of cap space to work with and they don’t exactly have the best prospect pool. There’s not many ways to add more than they have and clearly what they’ve done hasn’t worked

Vegas openly admitted that Edmonton was their toughest series by far, and the underlying numbers show Edmonton was the closest to Colorado last year in spite of the sweep.</div></div>
Getting close doesn’t mean anything. McDavid and drai don’t care about winning a round or two, they care about winning cups

If they leave to get paid FMV, they'll be going into another "building" situation, which neither of them wants. So your logic doesn't stand the light of day.
FYI McDavid took a discount to be in Edmonton already, so he's shown the willingness to do so. And Edmonton was a much worse team then.</div></div>
He took a discount cause he was younger and was betting on Edmontons future. I’m not saying that it’s a guarantee that one of them leaves but I find it hard to think they would both re sign on long term contracts when the team has done nothing their whole time there

If the oilers don’t win anything soon I bet one of the leaves. I’d doubt either of them would be willing to stay in Edmonton, especially at a discount, just to continuously lose in the second and third round of the playoffs

You gotta be stupid to think this deal is actually good for the hawks. They are rebuilding, rebuilding teams do give up three valuable picks plus their top defensemen for a rental. And it doesn’t matter if the hawks think they would be able to resign marner or not, You pay for what you get. Players without extensions in place return less

I don’t know why they would though…why would you not want a 2x Stanley cup champion veteran on a 1 year deal to help bedard and other young players for a year or potentially more? You could literally put carter on bedards line to start the season. If it doesn’t click then you move him down and he provides leadership and experience as well as good depth. Chicago needs good experienced players. They should actually be trying to win right away and use bedards ELC to their advantage.
Some team will take carter though if chitown doesn’t so it doesn’t really matter</div></div>
Cause he’s old, not very good and has an expensive contract. Hawks would take him with a pick attached but he’s a cap dump to the hawks and they won’t take him for free

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OilednGreasy</b></div><div>Raddysh's most common linemates last season were Kurashev-Toews/Domi and Johnson-Guttman/Dickinson he did not play with Blackwell for more than 10 minutes. 1 more point in 20 less games is not similar numbers.
I traded for Raddysh and put him on the 3rd line with the Oilers most experienced best defensive centre because Yamamoto makes too much to be a 3rd liner for Edmonton. But, of course 24 year old Kailer makes more than 25 year old Taylor, he's been in the NHL longer. I included the 5th and 6th picks because of the cap savings Chicago would be providing Edmonton and the 7th because Yamamoto's the better more experienced player.
Don't try and lie to support your opinion though please. If you don't actually know about something just don't bring it up.
I haven't been bringing up things like my believed misuse of Yamamoto by the Oilers in not giving him power play minutes and forcing him into situations where he has to be a defensively responsible, puck retriever, and board battling type player. I've watched Yams strip too many of the best Defenseman in the NHL of the puck and feed players for goals to think he's being utilized properly by the Oilers coaches. But you can't understand that unless you watch the Oilers a lot and it's my opinion.
I'll tell you though. Every line combination Evander Kane played on last season was scored on more against than for except when he was with Yamamoto and Draisaitl and Kane-McDavid-Draisaitl was brutal, so was Kane-McDavid-Yamamoto. Which makes me think that the Oilers were using Yamamoto (who had whiplash) to cover for Kane (who got his wrist cut and broke ribs). That's terrible for KY if you think about it.
My hope is the Blackhawks would use KY properly like they did Debrincat.</div></div>
It’s hilarious how everyone is disagreeing with you yet your still too arrogant to admit you wrong. It’s pretty well known that raddysh holds a good amount of value while Yamamoto doesn’t. I also don’t get where the whole one less point in 20 less games thing come from cause raddysh had 37 points in 78 games and Yamamoto had 25 in 58. Since I know math is tough for you I figured out the points per game and raddysh averaged a higher points per game than yamo

Quit with the McDavid excuse, it's Lazy and dumb. Yamamoto's most common centre was Draisaitl last season. Yams didn't power play so he was only playing with Draisaitl at even strength, and Leon was the 13th highest scoring player at evens. McDavid was 4th.
Yamamoto is far and away a better defensive forward than Raddysh. That's not even close to being debatable, and he had a goal and an assist on the PK last season
I believe you don't know jack siht</div></div>
Cool, he wasn’t playing with McDavid he was playing with draisaitl. Same thing still applies, Raddysh was playing with Tyler Johnson and Collin Blackwell the whole year and they put up similar numbers. You’re also conveniently glossing over the money which is the reason why Raddysh is worth so much more than yamo. And if yamo is so much better than Raddysh then how come you are acquiring Raddysh and how come you are giving up a 5th and 6th and only getting back a 7th?
