That's a great question & a great debate.
Younger me used to think the O-Show (OHL) was churning out the best talent but after the covid lockout & with recent drafts I'd say the U-Show (USHL) is really good.
At the end of the day I respect all of those junior leagues.
As a Red Wing fan I know Mantha & Zadina played in the Q. Cossa & Hanas play in the WHL. Buium & Mazur played in the U.
Most of the Wings other prospects of recent, and some of the best, played overseas in Sweden or Germany leagues.

The first trade with the Red Wings is interesting. I'm not saying it's good or bad but it is interesting.
For the 2nd trade. The Red Wings just traded Suter to the Rangers and then trade Hronek to get him back? :tearsofjoy

They have 6.4M in cap space and need to sign a good goalie, Sandin+
Also need to pay Engvall & Kase if they want to keep them.

The only Red Wing guaranteed on the roster until 24-25..... Drumroll please
Robby Fabbri to 24-25
Next longest:
Vrana 23-24
Rass 23-24
Raymond 23-24 ELC
Seider 23-24 ELC
Hronek 23-24
Of course I expect extensions for Larkin & others but it's interesting how right now this team isn't tied down to almost anybody.
Except Fabbri (who was good when healthy)

Leafs - A Different Approach
I don't think Mrazek or Detroit are a good fit for each other.
I think the trade is fair but might be better for a team like Chicago that can take a risk and wants picks to rebuild.
If Mrazek doesn't work out for them that's fine because it helps them tank for Bedard or another top prospect.
I know Toronto needs all of the cap space they can get but a buyout for Mrazek doesn't cost a lot per year.

It would be so weird seeing Malkin in a Wings jersey.
He's an outstanding player but hasn't been able to stay healthy for a full season in a while.

Ideal Offseason - GOLDEN KNIGHTS
I think Suter for Karlsson straight up is a more fair deal for both sides.
In that case I like the idea, it's unique, but don't think the Wings agree to that trade.
Suter stayed healthy for all 82 games and played well for being on a rebuilding team.
I don't think the Wings want to get an older guy AND have to pay him more just to get similar point production.
I agree that a change of scenery could be good for Karlsson & yes he's technically a 40 goal scorer but he's unfortunately been declining in point production.

My take on what Stevie should do
If I'm being a little nit-picky I'd say I don't like Ras or Veleno on the 4th line. I hope they can perform better than that.
Being extremely nit-picky I'd say the cap floor is $576,944 higher than this team hits.
I think LD could use some improvement with Ed & Walman.
I hope Edvinsson can make the team and be a stud but he's young and has no nhl experience.
Other than that I do like this team on paper especially if Edv can be a solid 2D NHLer.
I hope Trocheck or another proven 2C has interest in signing in Detroit.
Thank you. I hope you have a nice day as well.

MTL lowkey summer
Why would Detroit PAY for a declining RD who is paid $6.25M until he's 37?
Red Wing's 1st RD is Seider; 2nd RD is Hronek. Paying $6.25M for an old man at 2 or 3 RD doesn't make sense at all for them.
In the next few years the Red Wings should be playoff ready not a nursing home.

youth impress at camp
I'm impressed this team is above the cap floor with 6 ELC's.
They are going to need all of that cap space in a few years to pay the young studs.
I like Holtby but I think and hope they could find a better backup even if it costs a few million more.
I'm a big Veleno fan but I don't know if he's ready for full time 2C. That said your title is "youth impress at camp"
I like the Forsberg signing but I don't like taking Bert off 1st line because of his chemistry with Larkin & Raymond.
I understand the D have 2 ELC's but in total those six D make 11.65 total. Some teams (Looking at you SJ with Karlsson) pay a guy that much per year.
Money isn't everything but it shows this D core is very unexperienced or not as talented.

Re-Draft 2019
Seider developed for 49 games in the AHL and a full season+ in the SHL (41 games plus 13 playoff games).
Raymond developed in the SHL for 77 games (in 3 seasons).
I know Kakko played one full season in Liiga and a few games in LIIga in another year but this post makes
me think about the Wing's development process & if he could be producing more points if he had developed for a
year in a different league whether that be the AHL, SHL, other.

I hope Edvinsson makes the team out of training camp but I doubt it.
Even Calder favorite Seider developed for 1 year in the AHL and another in the SHL before making the team.
Playing Edvinsson on 3rd line D with Lindstrom wouldn't be good for him learning the game at the NHL level.
Low minutes & a lot of mistakes is what I'd forecast for that 3rd line D.

Interesting swap Fergy.
Laine is younger; a proven consistent 30 goal scorer who had 44 goals in a season.
He's younger than Bert. He didn't play a full season last year.
He's on a restricted contract.
Bert might be better defensively but his most recent season stats are his first time being close to a ppg player & that was with Larkin & Raymond.
He adds more grit to a lineup.
He only has 1 year left on his contract but if he's extended it should/would be less than the cost for Laine.

I haven't seen many ACGM's for Detroit with Campbell involved but I kind of like it.
I think 6 mill a year is a bit generous but that's what it could take for him to go to a non-playoff contending team.
The reason I like it is because the Red Wings show a lot of positive energy on the ice and he does that as well.
Campbell would bring a lot of positivity and could inspire this locker room.
I like Namestnikov on the team a lot but that's a bit of an overpay especially since he likes it in Detroit.

Getting younger and better
Wings fan here.
I say Vegas & Pittsburgh decline.
Theodore would be a great addition but I don't think if they'd want a STL 2023 2nd round pick for him not mentioning a prospect with it.
One reason is the trade favors the Wings. The next reason is Vegas wants to win now.

Getting competitive
The reason Washington traded Vrana is because "he didn't fit in their system". Detroit shouldn't make the same mistake.
He's arguably the best pure goal scorer on the team. Larkin is close, Raymond as well.
Vrana is a top six forward.
I like Copp. I'm not saying they should sign Copp to replace him but if they did they should trade Vrana for a hefty return.
I like Monahan but he's a gamble.
Unfortunately for the Wings and other team Arizona wants a king's ransom for Chychrun and that ain't it.
Pretty good team on paper depending on Monahan's health & the team's injuries.
Edvinsson and Lindstrom can't be a pair it'd be the blind leading the blind. No offense to Ed he's just inexperienced.

Dont pursue the big names
As much as I hate to admit it, and I don't want to watch another sub .500 season, this seems realistic for the Wings.
Even if the Wings got a shiny new top 1 or 2 center and the left defense gets better I think they might squeak into the playoffs but aren't a contender for a cup.
Who knows though. Hopefully the new coach is great for the team.
There are tough decisions to be made. I'm glad it's Yzerman making them and not myself.
All things considered I wonder how much longer Larkin & the younger core can put up with losing seasons before wanting to be moved.

Fixing the D
No thanks on Mrazek, I don't think he would want to come back to Detroit anyway. I wasn't happy when he left but I realized after the fact it was better for the Wings. He's a headcase sometimes.
I like this team on paper. I also like Suter but to be a serious playoff contender the Wings might need a bit of a better 2C.
That said, Veleno looked great filling in for Larkin so maybe & hopefully he can fill that role soon.
Part of the defense scheme depends on how long/if Edvinsson plays in the AHL.
I like Erne a lot but if we could get a good LHD for him I'd take it.

"Too Much" not enough (for Red Wings). I don't think the Wings are in the position to trade picks for Chychrun & that offer might not be enough to entice the Coyotes.

Points aren't everything but in 101 games Laf has 22 goals 12 apples = 34 points in 101 games
Stutzle has 20 goals 30 assists in 92 games = 50 points in 92 games
Raymond has played 46 games in the NHL and has 11 goals 24 assits = 35 points in 46 games which is more points than Laf in more than half the number of games & he's on a rebuilding team
