OK STEVEY PAY THE LADS
Depending on the chemistry with Larkin I'd rather see the Cat on the 1st line and Raymond on line two.
I'm hoping Seider takes less or around what Larkin makes per year but we'll see.
Unless Ras has a crazy good season I feel that's an overpay & even though it's a bridge for Razor it's an underpay. Again depending on how they do in 23-24.
Lafferty is alright but I'm kind of hoping Sprong has a a solid season & extends.
I'd rather see Maatta in the lineup on LD than Chairot as of right now.
My comment is opinion stuff & we'll see how players do in the 23-24 season.
I don't think that trade gets Couture but if it did I'd rather have someone else as 2c especially for that cap hit.

Swing big Kyle
Red Wings decline because he's a bit too old & too many contract years. He's a good player just not a fit for Detroit for a 2nd round pick.

Since Vladar hasn't been traded for already it's doubtful a 2nd round pick is the return. A 3rd if you're lucky.
Also I hate when people use the Wings for a "can go anywhere" trade when the Wings have too many nhl caliber golies/players on the roster. Trade 'em to Chicago or Anaheim or another dead last place team.

best case scenario
It's hard to say about value from the Wings side. I wouldn't want to trade the Boston pick if they don't have their core centers re-sign. Devils advocate the Wings need a goal scorer now instead of waiting for one in ~3 years.

I'm not a scout but I'd rather see the Red Wings get Benson, Moore or Perreault with 9 overall and Willander at 17 if this was the order.

Kent Wuges All in Special
I think that's a pretty fair trade with the Red Wings.
It would just depend on who is there at 5 and if the Red Wings & Steve think the quality beats out the quantity of a highish and middle 1st round pick in what is a pretty deep draft.

If I Was Allowed Nice Things
I'd be comfortable paying Seider more per year and hope to sign Raymond for a little less per year.
I don't like the Cat trade because I'd rather the Wings to keep the boston pick since I think they'll decline a lot next year.
No thanks on Marner, I hate using this word but he's too soft. I'd take Nylander though if Toronto would move him (I think he's a bit soft too fyi).
The Keller trade is too quantity for quality. 1st (17th overall), 2nd, 3rd, + a higher end prospect than Buch is probably not enough depending on the prospect. Perhaps Wallinder and add even more.

The Wings need RD not LD and aren't paying assets for a player who is mostly a cap dump imo.

Next year
I like Suter's game but idk if it's worth a 3x3.
That Severson deal takes him to 35 years old.. The Wings need younger blood for that length of a contract.
I'd rather see Soderblom or someone get some experience on line 3 or 4 than an almost $5 mill Killorn contract.
Adin hill sure but that's a short contract for him to accept. That Veleno contract is a good deal for the Wings.

Wings Wonderings 2324
I like the Cat and he's something the Wings could use but it's tough to give up those assets and cap space/length.
The Wings could use an enforcer but I've always hated Lucic and think they could get a younger guy for a similar reasonable price.
They need a better goalie duo tandem than this so Husso can get rest that he needs before putting the team on his back in important games.
Kubalik isn't a 4th liner to me so I'd either have him higher up in the lineup or trade him for assets or a NHLer like a RD.

Detroit giving up an equivalent of approximately three 1st round picks, one 2nd round pick, and one 3rd round pick give or take can't happen at this point of the rebuild for that return.

The rebuilding Red Wings aren't trading two young players they developed who fit their timeline AND a 3rd round pick for an old guy.
You didn't even put Veleno in the lineup so why acquire him?

Finally Ready to Compete for a Playoff Spot
I wouldn't take the chance on Monahan. I actually said to a friend earlier today that I'd like Nylander on the Wings but idk about that cap hit.
A problem with this lineup is it's too close to the cap with many players on their last year of RFA/UFA.
Need cap space the next year to sign Elmer, Edvinsson, Kasper, Zadina, Fabbri, Maatta and whoever else I might be forgetting.
Edit: I was forgetting Husso & Cossa/other backup.

Well miss you Bert
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PHEN</b></div><div>Steve Y gave him away. In the hunt and you trade him for peanuts</div></div>
I'm not blown away by the return but Bert is a rental who has 14 points in 29 games and hasn't been healthy for half the season.
If the Wings kept him for the rest of the season & he doesn't get an offer from Yzerman that he liked the Wings would have lost him for nothing.
The thing that sucks the most about it imo is the 1st round pick isn't for this draft it's for the next one after.

Vrana and the NHL Players Assistance Program
Nice article thanks for sharing.
As stated in the article just like most people I've speculated on what he's going through.
He's one of my favorite players on the Wings so of course I want him back as soon as possible.
That said, what he's going through isn't for people to know or judge.
What matters is that he gets the help he needs in however long of time he needs.
I can't help but think about Bobby Ryan when Player Assistance Program comes up.
Bobby earned a new fan in me for going through what he did and coming back.
I was so happy for him to get 3 goals in his first game back.

Trade is fairish value but the Wings don't need an older LD who is debatably overpaid into his late 30's when they have Edvinsson, Johansson, and Sebrango in the pipeline.
Zadina might be the odd man out of the Red Wing roster but I wouldn't want them to trade him + a 2nd rounder for this.
I've always been low on Krug to the Wings so you can factor that into my opinion. I'm not saying it's bad I just wouldn't prefer it.

line up
Your comment on my "log jam" post
Veleno, Berggren and Soderblom all need to be in GR unless they're playing top 9 minutes in Detroit every night. Right now, short of a trade, I just don't see a spot for any of them in the top 9.
I also think Edvinsson starts in GR.
I'd also put Rasmussen in the top 9 and drop Suter to the 4th line if we don't trade him... he's not in our future and Rasmussen has looked very good and deserves it.
At least you got Edvinsson in GR correct.

Red Wings fans HELP
1. Ranking finish
In a predictable world Tampa, Florida, Toronto take the top 3 spots. Then Boston & Ottawa battling for the next 2 spots. Detroit fighting right behind that but anything can happen.
2. PowerPlay lines
I'm not sure. CoachCoach's PP lines seem reasonable. I'm excited to see how Detroit PP looks. Will they go with 1 defenseman PPs and leave a young D as the last man back?
3. Breakout prediction
Vrana is overdue to have a breakout year. I'd also say Kubalik could have an over expectation type of year & I kind of expect one or both of the goalies to play above expected this year.
Husso had solid stats last year & Ned will be playing behind better defense and a lot better team overall compared to last year.
4. Slumping players
I have this bad feeling Raymond will have a sophomore slump but he trained hard in the offseason. I don't wish it upon him I just think it could happen.
Other than that perhaps a new signing who gets injured or can't find chemistry.
5. Goaltender split
55/45 I hope depending on the hot hand. I'm excited that Detroit has a real 1A/1B situation because it has felt like a 1/backup situation for a while now.

Idk how long Chairot stays a top 4D but I'd hate to have a cap hit of almost 5M a year after he signs to go to a 3rd line D.

My initial instinct said "FAR!" but with some of the forwards not having any NHL experience made me think about it.
After thinking about it I still think pretty far. The D and G are brick wall solid they just need the forwards to figure the rest out every game.
