He wouldn't be walking away from 5 million though. would only be walking away from 1.5 Million.

what do you mean not really. Its my opinion there's no right or wrong. Edmonton gets a solid reliable defensemen good on PK. Bouchard then moves on up and opens his offense more. Edmonton also gets 4.5 off of the books for other moves in which they need for a few years down the road. So to me, yes really.

Give him the tough starts give skinner the lighter load be just as well off but less of a commitment and less costs to acquire. Skinner kosk is way way different than smith and kosk just because of durability. Get a lot more out of kosk when not playing him every night for a month with western travel.

Varly has a .914 save percentage on a losing team this yr. He has a ton of playoff experience. Some ppl say he wont do as well on the Oilers because their D is terrible, but under Woodcroft the Oilers defence looks much more reliable and detailed. Varly is by far the better goalie here and far better suited to be the starter with Skinner as backup

Leddy I was on board with but after seeing Niemelianen play a regular role over the last while I think pushing him out of the line up hurts the team more than leddy will help.
I think archie is worth a third but won’t get it for him since he hasn’t played and considering his status crossing the boarder is questionable threw the rest of the season and playoffs be lucky to get anything more than future consideration at this point.
Really don’t like the idea of varlamov just complicates this coming offseason when the answer in net could simply be sitting in Bakersfield.

I think picking up Varly would be ideal IF(i know thats a big if) they some how manage to get Smith off the books for next yr. Skinner as Varly's full time backup next yr would be ideal, gives him a season to adjust and move into the #1 role.

long term?? 2 years after this one... not that NYI is the right team for Barrie necessarily, but a puck-moving RHD is still a valuable commodity, especially for teams with struggling PPs, regardless of the CapFriendly mob's perspective

Next Year Oilers
I'd totally take Barrie for that price, everybody goes crazy about how he's bad defensively but if you lead all defensemen in points does it really matter? Just play him in a sheltered role and give him PP1 time. Not like it's a bad contract either. Under $5mil for two years ain't bad, especially when Detroit still needs to hit the cap floor.

Quoting: michaelost

bear has crazy potential lol. the foegle wasn't needed and Bear>Barrie. Should have left Barrie off

Contrary to your line of thinking, I think that Bear was in a very similar position to Foegele because of Evan Bouchard's development. Based on past comments made by Ken Holland, Dave Tippett, and Jim Playfair, we know the Oilers were committed to having Bouchard in the lineup this year and were concerned with the prospect of going into this season with too much inexperience on the team's blue line. Bear has less than two full season's of experience and he regressed last year. In comparison to him, Bouchard has better draft pedigree, is a physically bigger man, is a better skater, possesses a far superior shot and better playmaking ability, has vastly greater potential, and already looks like a better NHL defenseman. IMO, that is why Bear was deemed expendable in Edmonton.
I'd like to see this trade work out for both teams because I like both players involved. Bear has good potential, and I hope he does very well in Carolina because Foegele has been a positive revelation in Edmonton.

Trying Something
Why would the Oilers retain $1.5mil in cap and take on the Kerfoot contract for no compensation? Burying Turris costs less than what's retained here. Russell is a decent insurance policy for that price, plays both sides. We likely keep him and are most definitely not retaining to deal him.

I agree, yall got a pretty dangerous bottom six (that Perrault line aint no joke either!).
However, with all the pending UFAs & RFAs (Stastny, Perrault, Lowry, Copp, Thompson, Lewis, Pionk, Forbort, Stanley, Poolman) and only 24M (less 5.3 if Little is back to full health) would you want to pay him more than league average when you play him on the bottom six as opposed to having a cost-controlled top 4 RHD in Bear?
Really asking because I don't know much about PEG's team but Copp is interesting for sure!

A Legit Contender

Quoting: McDavidFan97

I rarely advocate for advanced stats but Barrie's are awful. McDavid plays worse with him on the ice 5v5. Bear makes us a much better team than Barrie 5v5. Barrie's points will earn him a $5mill+ contract but between his bad 5v5 impact and the fact that he will take PP minutes away from Bouch I'm against an extension. A big extension would hurt our future. I love what he's doing this season although I wouldn't mind seeing him play less 5v5. I think people are way too critical of him though. To be clear I like what he's brought to the team, Bouch isn't ready for his role this season
This tweet has a graphic of Bear vs Barrie's 5v5 impact. It's a bit confusing if you don't know the terminology but blue means better offensive production, red means worse
Once Bear cleans up some of his mistakes I think more people will realize his impact

Tyson Barrie vs. Ethan Bear pic.twitter.com/99NcYgoe44
— ً🅺🅾🆂🅺🅸🅳🅰🅳🅳🆈 (@fakenewsshater) March 18, 2021

I don’t trust stats like that much anymore. Personally believe need to be very careful understanding them they tend to only narrow in on one aspect and completely disregard a lot of other aspects. I just don’t understand what more Barrie needs to do.

They really dont, look at the goaltending, look at the bottom 6, trying to outbid other teams on a guy that is a dime a dozen would be horrible cap management, let someone be dumb and give him 5 mil +, build a full roster not 5 forwards and 4 defenseman

Yup that's correct. I think the amount is already determined according to Edmonton media and Rishaug. I think the term is the hold up. But if Detroit, Arizona, Seattle and the quite a few other teams want to have a bidding war with then and if Nuge wants a fresh start, than that's up to him. I would go after Saad, Tartar, Iafallo or Hall if this doesnt work out. My max is 6.25 or else bye bye

Next Year If Klef comes back
I'd be surprised if Nuge is moved off McD's line for an extended period of time. What would be great imo, is if we ship Neal to Seattle somehow and have an extra $5.75mill to sign a goal scoring winger for Drai. I like the Haula, Grubauer and Janmark signings. Nuge contract seems fair, and Larsson would be amazing on the third pair with Laggy going forward, I'd be happy to see him resigned like this. If Klef can't return, worst case scenario we sign a top 4 LD to play with Bouch, hoping Klef will return though
