Why not
That’s a smart pick-up for one year. Neal still can be effective in the right situation and if not, you waive him and no impact to the cap. He just made too much in Edm and had too many health issues this past year.

Sure you can find money, but my point is how much can you spend on your defence given you have already locked up the goalie at $6m and some forwards making $4.5-6.5m long-term? if he wants $8m that’s $21m or 25% of your cap on three defensemen. The Blues will be filling out half the forward lines with players making $2m or less and you won’t win with that.
I wouldn’t bank on another miracle run again also.

I agree I don’t see this deal happening, but if he won’t sign an extension by the trade deadline and the Blues don’t look like legitimate contenders, they would be silly not to deal him somewhere at the deadline. If he wants $7-8m long-term, how do the Blues do that with Krug and Faulk on their deals? I don’t think it’s a given he resigns.

Well no Kulak and Lehkonen as they are desperately needed in Vancouver now, but that is still a lot of nothing Edm needs. Allen can catch a puck so I’ll give him that over Koskinen, but he’s already proven he can’t be a #1, so no thanks.

Edm declines. Not sure why Mtl fans always suggest trading Kulak and Lehkonen to Edm as we don’t need or want them. Can you explain why the Oilers would want the players you are so desperate to unload?

You think Tavares, Marner and Nylander are good value contracts? Matthew’s can score, but is that worth $11.6m? Those Dubas contracts all pay max or beyond max value for comparable players so yes, those are three terrible contracts they will have difficulty getting full value from.

Part that needs to be considered when evaluating debrusk is when he went into his slump he got bumped down in the line up and had less opportunity to get out of it. Very different handling than oilers did with yam. While he was slumping he was given additional opportunity to snap out of it which unfortunately for us fans he didn’t and even more unfortunate for him going into contract negotiations. My guess debrusk ends up in Calgary for monahan</div></div>
I think that it’s an overpay for DeBrusk. However I also agree with the comment that Oilers fans way over value Yamamoto. The guy has only been really effective for 3 months right after his call up. He works hard, but so do washing machines. Need to score regularly to play in the top 6.
Regardless, I don’t think the Oilers need DeBrusk. All efforts should be on swapping Koskinen and something for a younger goalie with potential.
I hope Calgary trades Monahan for DeBrusk as that’s a bad trade for Calgary.

I agree it’s unlikely, although if you move Hyman to the right and use Holloway/Nuge interchangeably at 3C, that is the deepest top 9 the Oilers have had in a long time. Don’t think the money is there long-term.

So all this bs about Boston initiating the trade is delusional. And, I'll remind you, yet again, that he can be traded at the deadline, even if it's for not as much. We wouldn't be taking this trade, that, again, YOU proposed, not me. Nothing in this trade that you proposed helps us in any way. Kassian is not better than debrusk, and is a cap dump. You'll need to pay to get rid of him. Not much, but we aren't taking him without it.</div></div>
I didn’t propose the trade. This isn’t my team. I only stated that any trade with Edm would need Kassian to make the money work, the tough spot the Bruins are in with the qualifying offer and that the Oilers as a result wouldn’t offer as much as the trade proposed. Thanks for proving my point on your reading comprehension. Movin’ on.

He could also be worth his QO. Who knows? What I'm saying for sure is that the Bruins would not consider this as an appropriate offer for JD, considering the cap dump you included as well as a 3rd and a goalie, all of which is low on our list of needs. We don't accept. Plain and simple enough for you?</div></div>
Slow down when you read and it may be plain and simple for you. Good luck with DeBrusk, prepare to be disappointed with how it ends.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skull_King</b></div><div>Actually, completely false. There isn't much of a logjam at lw. If he fits on the 3rd this year, he'll stay there. Really no reason to trade him for us. Kassian could fit, sure, but he's not an interesting piece in this trade. Neither are any of the other pieces, honestly. It's a no.</div></div>
Didn’t say there was a log jam, it’s money. Does Boston want to take the risk of hoping he turns around enough to qualify, or dump that risk on someone else to get something of marginal value. I’m fine with waiting until next summer for the Bruins to pull another Ritchie and then the Oilers possibly sign him as a UFA. Oilers don’t need to get DeBrusk now. It’s the Bruins that need to manage the return on their quickly depreciating asset. If this trade happens, it’s the Bruins initiating it, not Edm coming begging.

Edm won’t do that. Won’t deal Holloway and maybe only have a passing interest in Georgiev. If Georgiev really wants out and other teams know that, Rangers will be lucky to get a lot back to move him now.
I’d offer Koskinen with salary retained to keep goalie cap hits for teams the same and say Lagesson and a 5th. Don’t think Rangers do that, but don’t want Oilers giving up much for a goalie that may never be much better than the back-up they are trying to dump.

Oilers Still Interested In Debrusk And Linked To Kessel
Any Oilers trade for DeBrusk is going to have to include Kassian to make the money work. Same with most any other team at this point with most rosters set. Kassian is big and can skate and fits a Bruins style of game so I do see a fit. Appears DeBrusk isn’t fitting into the Bruins plans so dealing from a position of weakness. Unless he rebounds big, no one will want to take on that QO.
Think ahead one year and it’s likely they don’t qualify DeBrusk and lose him for nothing. Even at the trade deadline, they likely need to take something not very good back or a lower pick to take the contract. I could see this happen only b/c the Bruins would have an asset earlier in the year to use or flip. Only reason Oilers do this is he is local and more likely to stay for less than his QO at year end or to free up more cap room for 22-23 if they walk away.
I don’t think the Oilers give up that much honestly. Maybe Kassian and a B prospect or mid-round pick. Bruins will be hard pressed to get a good return.

Archibald, Ryan and Shore are better. Those two would absolutely make the Oilers worse. You think Keith is worse than Russell or Lagesson used last year? Exactly how many games have you actually seen Keith play this past season? I bet he will look better than at least half the Leafs defence this year. Simmonds = washed-up.

Not sure how much goal support you are getting from the 3rd and 4th lines. Hamonic on the 1st pair says a lot. Might fight for a wild card spot but Demko would need to play out of his mind to win a series.
