Dump Goodrow to Resign Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>slater417</b></div><div>He's actually not. He's overpaid absolutely. But not by 3m, but by about 1m.
NHL teams will actually likely trade for him once the cap goes up, but even if the rangers wanted to get his contract off the books, he's a terrible easy buyout as his cap hit is miniscule once he's bought out and is a net benefit next year, and then as the cap rises its like 1.5m for 3 years.
So the rangers arent forced to move a pick to move goodrow, let alone a first rd pick.</div></div>
It’s a free buyout until 2025 and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Drury look at it that way. However, it’s 6 seasons of cap hits after that. It’s a decent contract to buyout but giving away that Dallas first to move the whole contractor the long haul isn’t a lot to pay. It’s a late 1st, trey usually aren’t anything special. Would you give away Ryan Poehling to move that whole contract? That’s the kind of player you usually get in that range.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>danielcoe</b></div><div>the rangers trade is not fair value says this habs fan... someone is trying too hard to get a third first pick.... picks between 20-32 only 17 players in thirteen season have become top 6 forwards or top 4 def or starting goalies... that is 1.3 each each.... everybody but one person gets nothing much from those slots...... Mcccarron Schbretk Juulson poehling etc....so dont trade significant things for a 1 in 10 crapshoot...
Comparably... montreal took caufield 15th and guhle 16 so that is where the picks need to be... So florida's pick will be great but other picks late are not so valuable</div></div>
You just made a good case for why NYR should have no problem trading the Dallas 1st. It’s going to be a late 1st and likely a not very significant prospect as you’ve stated.

I have no idea why you want your team to be worse off all to save an overpaid 4th liner. That’s odd to say the least.

Every single Rangers ACGM on here that doesn’t move Goodrow also doesn’t resign Kane, or you’re losing Lafrenière. That’s the reality of your bad cap situation.

I’ve looked at it from your angle. You won’t be able to resign Motte. I think you are severely underestimating how bad your cap situation actually is.

There was never a chance to sign Tarasenko, he is a pure rental because he will get a fat contract, but Kane all depends on how much he wants and for what term. If he takes a cheap deal, then maybe he stays. They have nothing to do with Goodrow staying or going.</div></div>
You can’t sign either without moving him unless you plan on letting someone like Miller go. All of your options are bad ones except for trading or buying out Goodrow.

So you are going to lose Kane and Tarasenko to keep a 4th liner? And yes it’ll cost a lot to dump about 15 million in cap over 4 years.

That’s an interesting website. I looked back and compared from 2019 to present since Goodrow’s numbers for this season are particularly down. Foegele is certainly the better goal scorer but as far as assists go they are about even. Goodrow also is the more physical player and a shot blocker. Then you add in the fact he can play as a centre and I think he’d be quite valuable at 1.82 million for 4 years. It’s a good cap hit for a bottom six player on a team that has that many big contracts to pay out.

We aren’t going to be in the mix for a playoff spot at least 2 more seasons. This OS might even put us back further. The 2024 1st is going to be a higher pick and probably a better player than Laf.
