Absolutely one of the worst offers for Trevor Zegras I've seen in a month of them.

You're usually quite reliable. I think that you took your eye off the ball.

Fixing The Cap 3
Even assuming that Zegras for Norris is a fair exchange (and that's a highly dubious proposition), the other elements of that package don't get you Jamie Drysdale.

Guhle is still eligible for the Calder Trophy, so he's still a prospect. Regardless of semantics, my point is that he has at least as bright a future as Jamie Drysdale (who, by the way, has more than twice as many games under his belt).
I think that Pavel Mintyukov is a better LhD prospect than either Zellweger or Jackson LaCombe. And again, that depth is what makes Guhle, as enticing an acquisition as he might be, less essential to Anaheim than he might be to most other teams.

Anaheim declines. As good a prospect as Guhle is, he's not as attractive to the Ducks as he would be to most other teams since Anaheim has such a solid pipeline on the left side, and a future first and a cap dump aren't stellar elements, either. Something like Mesar, Mailloux and your 2024 first is the kind of offer that would probably be necessary to outbid other teams.

Leafs - Flames - Ducks Blockbusters to start the year off right
If Anaheim feels forced to trade Trevor Zegras, it won't be for a rental (no matter how productive) who will be too hideously expensive to re-sign, never mind the draft picks.

The chance of William Nylander leaving in June 2024 is about 50 times greater than the chance of Matt Roy doing so.

Minnesota isn't trading Jesper Wallstedt for three second-tier futures.
The Trevor Zegras trade is conceivable, but I doubt that Anaheim would trade him intra-divisionally.

Make it the 2024 first, top-10 protected, and Anaheim should say Yes, if trading Trevor Zegras becomes unavoidable.

Ducks Move Zegras
I don't see Buffalo doing this. They're pretty set at forward and have a full pipeline coming up, so Trevor Zegras isn't as much a plus for them as he would be for other teams, and the Sabres aren't going to break up what looks to be the core of their young defense for the next 5 or 6 seasons.

Sabres Acquire Zegras
As an Anaheim fan, I can't see Buffalo doing this, or really anything like it. Buffalo's current forward corps plus their pipeline -- Kulich, Rosen, Ostlund, Benson in addition to Savoie -- makes Zegras a luxury, not a necessity, and once you have 3/4 of a great young defense, you don't trade away a major piece of it.

Give him the bag
I agree 100% with everything everyone has said here except that I cannot BELIEVE that Verbeek is playing hardball around the $3 million mark. NOBODY could be that dumb. I think that for whatever reason, the problem is one of term rather than amount -- one side wants a bridge deal, the other a 7- or 8-season term.
I wonder if we ever find out the actual situation.

One season of Nylander and the late first don't equal Zegras.
Liljegren, the two prospects and the third don't equal Drysdale.
Timmins and the seventh don't equal Jones.

I didn't say Liljegren was a cap dump and it's intellectually dishonest to imply that I did. Liljegren gets traded in at least a quarter of all Toronto ACGMs published by Maple Leafs fans and he's clearly moved in those as a cap maneuver.
The idea that something can be inferred from the delay in signing Zegras or Drysdale is idiotic.

chiclets proposal
I think that neither team would accept because both teams are pretty happy with where they are now. Buffalo would probably decline faster because whereas Zegras looks to be All-Star material and Drysdale could eventually be, Dahlin is a franchise player and a cut above an "ordinary, run-of-the-mill" All-Star.

Zegras
I know you well enough to know that you're not close to being serious here, but what I find interesting about this ACGM is that you're not a Buffalo fan, so the sense of palpable outrage is curious.
Just for the record, I think that the consensus among us Anaheim stalwarts is that if indeed the Ducks front office feels some need to trade Trevor Zegras, he tops out at one of those prospects and a first and something else major.

Los Angeles is (overly) patient with their prospects, so just as they waited on Vilardi, and are waiting for Byfield and Turcotte to mature, I think that they will wait on Bjornfot for another season.

WE ARE SO BACK
Trevor Zegras has two full NHL seasons of 60-points-plus under his belt while doing first-line duty.
Slafkovsky has one incomplete campaign on his resume and so far, looks more like Alex LaFreniere or Quinton Byfield than Tim Stutzle.
To suggest that the difference between them, RIGHT NOW, is only a draft pick in the 49 - 64 range is either laughable homerism or else hilarious ignorance.

Why would we exchange our high 2020 first (who shows every sign of panning out if not actually becoming a top-pair RhD) for a low 2024 first plus two guys you're eager to get rid of for cap relief? Never mind the hilariously egregious second.

Anaheim isn't paying a third for an old, declining, expensive veteran with an injury history whose contract is under water by 10%. I doubt that the Canadiens would be willing to part with what we'd want in exchange for taking Gallagher off Montreal's hands.

DREAM TDL scenario
I think that for Anaheim to trade Adam Henrique to you while retaining $2,912,500 is going to cost Toronto a second-round draft pick, and the problem is that you guys don't have one in the near future. So I think that it would probably require the Islander third plus someone like Topi Niemela (Cowan and Minten are too much, Robertson and Steeves are too little).

Ignoring NMC
If I'm going to be investing $34.9 million plus in a player, I'd rather spend it as part of a pay package for 22-year-old Trevor Zegras than on three seasons of 32-year-old Artemi Panarin.
Exchanging the still-productive Henrique for the AHLer isn't very appealing, either.
