<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ColonelX</b></div><div>Nobody will trade for Kinkaid, he's been through waivers unclaimed and hasn't picked up his game since being in the AHL ...

To be fair most people are talking (And will be happy) if we're getting an excellent prospect + 2nd or a 1st with a B prospect kind of value. <em>Just as an example</em>: Hague and a 2nd or a 1st and Robertson (Dallas) with a chunk of retained salary obviously. Just stated these guys out of my head based on<em> levels </em>not on probability of a trade accepted. What kind of value do you think your team would pay (I'm guessing you're PIT? Not that you'd need him but just as an example)?</div></div>

It would honestly depend. Pgh isn't in the need for a right handed dman but if they were, considering right handers are more sought after, both teams are in the same Conference and what the opposing teams needs are, it's hard to determine honestly. I just think no team would trade what that other guy proposed. Why would you give up so much for middling defender at his age and salary? I'm sure a contending team isn't in need to replace their top 4 dmen and if he's being brought in as extra assurance for a playoff run, there are less taxing options available on trade deadline day. To answer your question, I would offer Shultz and possibly a mid tier player such as Blandisi or some other prospect type of player that has been up and down the organization for Petry and the pick is just because he has another year on that contract. MTL would be able to shed 5.5m in salary for free agency as Shultz is a pending UFA.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>claysbar</b></div><div>Yeah. McCann at 3.5 isn't too bad but he really is nothing more than Rust/Tanev but can play C. MP, really good 2nd pairing, can't pay him more than Dumo. Riko I can live with, Jarry unless a Cup run gets a 2-2.5 show me. Labanc may just be Labanc (rupt) gambling on himself off of last year. Then there is Simon....I'm sorry, screw "metrics" but unless this guy is working the turnstyles before the game and sweeping up after, I have no Idea why he is in the NHL.</div></div>

I must disagree about Simon. He may not light the lamp much but he does all the small things well and isn't an anchor to his line mates no matter what line he's on and/or who he plays with. He plays a smart game and has speed. He is an above average skater and passer and is defensively sound for a forward. He battles hard and has enough versatility to move up and down the lineup. Sorry about the double quote. Not sure why it does that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chigurrhh</b></div><div>Besides Jarry getting 4 million after one good season, who is overpaid?

McCann will be putting up ~50 points and ~25 goals. That number should grow as he plays on Crosby's wing for the second half of the season.

Simon should be around ~40 points this year playing on Crosby's wing. Conor Sheary ended up over 3 million for being a passenger on Sid's line.

Marcus Pettersson is better than Rasmus Andersson by pretty much every metric and that guy got ~4.5, long term.

"Grossly overpaid". Sounds like you don't have very good grasp on contract values and also completely ignored the point of the post.</div></div>

Why does just about every OP get so upset and have to sling insults when their AGMs get questioned. It's not that serious dude, jeez. You do know we can both disagree with one another and still be cordial at the same time right?

My point is that you have given out contracts based on very little. When these players are under RFA status, the team has the control. In the cap era, you don't want to hand out money like that and handicap yourself for future deals.

For instance. If you were a bit more conservative with payments and could cut 250k-500k per player, you would have saved roughly 1.75m-3.5m. That is a nice chunk of money to have lying around in case of emergency, improving the team through free agency or if by chance a nice trade offer gets laid upon your doorstep.

Then you are crippling the team by having 2.875m still count towards the salary cap by acquiring Jones and then buying him out. So essentially you are paying Jarry 6.875m per year till the buyout is off the books. No matter what the point of your AGM is, it's undeniably terrible asset management and financially irresponsible. There's not even an argument in that respect.

I wasn't questioning the skill set of the free agents. I'm merely pointing out what I mentioned above about the economic side of running a team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>You don't have a clue about what kind of player Saad is. He's a defensive power forward that excels in possession; these players ARE NOT common especially when they score 20+ goals and 45 to 55 points. Fans that have never played the game at a high level look at goals/points to judge a player; a totally wrong approach with any players outside of dynamic scoring wingers.

And you're right, Chicago is not retaining 50% or anything more then $1M....because they don't need to as plenty of teams would love to have Saad on their top 6...especially playoff teams.</div></div>

ChiHawk. You are absolutely correct on the player assessment. The other guy, wrong as usual on everything. Saad would be the perfect winger for Crosby alongside Guentzel. Saad is a 5v5 beast and plays a Crosby style of game. He may only be a 20 goal scorer but the "homers" in Pgh seem to forget that the beloved Dupuis and Kunitz were also only 20 goal scorers with a couple rare 20+ goal seasons. and that was from benefiting from playing w 87. I would bet to see Saad getting close to the 30 goal range playing with 87 n 59. He is for sure affordable if they can move Bjugstad and/or let Galchenyuk walk this summer and if they choose to also let Shultz test free agency. I would resign Shultz if he would take a lesser financial deal as he's missed so many games due to injury. Then again, with the emergence of Marino, Shultz might not be needed and they could find a bargain for the 3rd pairing RD spot.
