Todays Lines Per Elliot Teaford

I hope we get to see Comtois play during this road trip
<strong>Also, I'm a little surprised to see the 3rd D pairing is still Larsson + MDZ. I figured after last game either player could get swapped for Holzer</strong></div></div>
IMO, MDZ has been way better than Holzer and the Larsson - MDZ pairing has been solid. Not flashy, but just not a noticeable liability. I think that pairing should stick. Larsson needs more experience at this level and doesn't need to be hampered by a bad partner. Overall, I have been very impressed with Larsson. He gets flustered when put under pressure, but that's normal for kids not used to the speed of the NHL. Hopefully, by sticking at this level, he'll learn to deal with those situations. Once/if we can improve, he's going to be a very good D-first top 4D.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icarus</b></div><div>I’m hoping to see Comtois as well. I know part of the call up was because the Gulls don’t play again till Friday. But one game would be nice since it’s been almost a year since we’ve seen him in action.
I think Holzer really left a bad taste in Eakins mouth. MDZ may have to really bomb to get replaced. Though I also think it’s entirely possible Holzer gets slotted without skating with Larsson today.</div></div>
Getting a look at Comtois would be great. Jones has been pure energy, but I could see him being benched for Comtois.

I don't think any of those guys are even available atm. Not sure why this is even a question. There are plenty of available RHD, not as good as those 3 granted, available that actually make sense.

Three things would have to happen around the trade deadline to make Pietrangelo available in a trade: the Blues would have to be outside looking in at the playoffs, Armstrong would have to lose his belief that the team is a contender, and the Blues/Petro extension talks would have to be dead in the water.
If all three happen, I think the Blues would look at the Mark Stone deal as the precedent: from the Ducks, maybe Zegras + 2nd or Steel/Mahura/Terry + 1st.

Think you may have to call Buffalo about their massive stock of RHD. There's a guy named Brandon Montour you might like ;). I think Risto would do well on Anaheim. Could get Brodie to play RHD but I think he hates Anaheim because of how much they got under his skin in that playoff round where ANA swept the Flames a few years back. Could sign Ceci in the offseason?

New Jersey isn't about to trade Subban mere months after acquiring him, the Blues would very much like to re-sign their captain and even if they didn't they aren't about to trade him away when they desire another title and a big no thanks on Weber. Weber would immediately become our second oldest player and he has SIX YEARS left on his deal after this season.
This narrative about acquiring a RHD has gotten so blown out of proportion. It doesn't matter. Sure it would be better if we had one but it's not like it's the difference between us being a contender or not. Whatever it would take to acquire one wouldn't be worth it. Our focus should be on developing a stud RHD, not mortgaging precious assets to acquire one.

There's nothing wrong with this team that Cale Makar or Charlie McAvoy wouldn't cure. Unfortunately . . .
Seriously, this team is only one first-class RD away from being a legitimate contender. (And he doesn't have to be as good as those guys.) I know, I know, team diehards keep repeating that putting Cam Fowler on the right is the answer, but I'm not convinced. But realistically, there's no chance we can land the guy we need this year unless Waddell goes crazy and thinks he has enough depth to give us Brett Pesce for draft picks.
I'm still rootin', though.

I want you to think very hard about Fowler's game-winning goal the other night. He doesn't score that goal playing on the right. That's what scares me.
Half an hour to face-off.

Your D needs a little shuffling. So far the pairs have looked like this:
Lindholm-Manson
Guhle-Fowler
Larsson-Holzer/Del Zotto
Mahura is the first call-up though Hakanpaa might get the call if anyone on the right side goes down. Simon Benoit could see some action this year too which is crazy considering he was on an AHL deal this time last year.

This has been one of the weirdest starts to a season that I can remember... Ducks go from a bottom feeder to 3-0 (honestly they have too talented of a roster to be a bottom feeder again), Lightning have been struggling after a historic season and very minimal changes to their roster, James freaking Neal just scored 4 goals tonight after scoring 7 in 63 games last year, the Jets just iced a defense with none of the players that were on the team last year (and this whole Byfuglien thing in general is weird), and the Sharks have been struggling despite minimal changes to their roster (much like the Bolts). There's probably more that I'm not thinking of, but this has been a very weird year so far

Really like yours guys d-core and Gibson is arguably the best in the game. That right there gives you a real nice shot this season and breakouts from players like Kase and a bounce back from Rakell and you guys will be in great shape!

Lundestrom looked good both in the pre-season and last game between Rakell and Silfverberg.
Once Comtois gets his feet under him, he may be a star, too.
In addition to Guhle and Larsson, Josh Mahura may be an NHL-quality LD.
In addition to the three top draftees this year, Groulx may be NHL ready soon and productive, too.
Shore, Grant and Rowney are great depth players.
Like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Toronto and Winnipeg, Anaheim needs another top-4 RD. But unlike the Kings, the Ducks prospect cupboard is bare on that side.
Thanks for thinking of us!</div></div>

Lines when healthy your thoughts ana
Right now the guys that seem really well-suited to play together are Rakell and Silfverberg, Getzlaf and Kase, Grant and Rowney, and Lindholm and Manson. So I'd line up
Shore/Comtois - Getzlaf - Kase
Rakell - Lundestrom/Steel - Silfverberg
Comtois/Shore - Henrique - Terry
DesLauriers - Grant - Rowney
If Comtois stays in San Diego, then Ritchie takes his place on the third line.
I sure would love to see Del Zotto prove that he can handle the load at RD, and play with Fowler in his natural position. But I still think we need someone better than Korbinian Holzer at #3 RD or one of Guhle/Larsson playing on his off side.

So you sell a 24ish year old for basically nothing

What... Trading a first line winger for a third goalie... Ik this is probably Miller's last year, but still, you can easily find a backup in FA or something, trading a still productive 2C to a team that has 0 need for another 2C, and only getting a 7th d man back... Henrique's contract isn't that bad, especially 50% retained, that's a great deal for him then you're trading two good 4th liners (that have looked really good so far this season) for a 5th... I mean they probably don't have much more value, but still... Why... Plus the isles need top end talent, not more bottom 6ers, Kessler and Eaves are both done for at least the year, Rakell and Silf will be centered by Lundestrom or (more likely) Steel, Sprong and Steel are not 4th liners, and having Guhle Larsson and Comtois scratched is EDM approved best way to ruin your high end prospects development, plus Lindholm is a top 10 LD in the league,>>>>>>>Fowler, who will be the 2RD this year

Figure it out - With Trade
My one different takeaway about last night is the condition of the ice. It was 85 degrees here yesterday and the way our most experienced puck handlers -- Getzlaf, Lindholm, even Fowler at one point -- skated past pucks they already had on their sticks suggests to me that the ice was sluggish. Anybody else have an opinion on that?
I was glad to see both Steel and Kase on the ice for game one considering their questionable health status at the end of camp. Given that, I understand their rustiness.
I love Fowler, but if he's on the right side, he doesn't score the game winner last night. That goal is impossible for a lefty to make from the right circle. Putting him on his off side is like asking Mike Trout to catch -- he can do it, but eventually it's going to affect his performance negatively. For a defenseman, playing on his off side affects offensive output more than defensive strength, and we can't afford to lose even a smidgeon of Cam's scoring ability.
