Washington Capitals signed Brenden Dillon (4 Years / $3,900,000 AAV)
All these people saying this is an overpayment are absolutely clueless. Dillon is a top 4 guy. If someone goes down injured he can step up and play top minutes against teams best players. He’s a shut down D man. He could’ve easily gotten 4.5-5 in the open market on a crap rebuilder team. I keep coming across idiots that still think the year is 2010 and the cap is back at 60M. Get with the times.. do some research before you comment idiotic crap.

(CGY / CAR) - Hanifin, Lindholm for Hamilton, Fox, Ferland
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OshietheBeast</b></div><div>Undermining me makes you feel smarter? Lmao. Stats are important, and of course no one can deny that his performance on the ice might sometimes be on an elite level, his off ice behaviour or locker room presence causes disfunction in the teams that he has played in. If he was simply immature, like Seguin and Carter were before they were traded, he wouldn't have been traded twice already. There's something that you and I can't see that makes him not wanted in teams.</div></div>
<strong>"Undermining me makes you feel smarter?"</strong>
No it doesn't....I just pointed out that you gave an opinion & then supported it with unrelated evidence.
And that the stats tend to disagree with your opinion (though I'm aware that stats aren't everything).
With that said....
<strong>Undermining 24 year old Dougie Hamiltons character makes you feel smarter?</strong> - This comment can go both ways.
His behavior was never a problem.
He's quieter than most hockey players & may be a bit on the neurotic side (intelligence alone doesn't get you a 99% average in high-school).
There are a lot nerds in the world....they just don't usually play in the NHL....which might have made him an oddball in a locker room full of bro's.
That doesn't mean he's immature or has behavioral problems....just different than whats normal in his environment.
<strong>In terms of the trade.....Given Dougie's age & talent....a smart organization would have:</strong>
1. Worked with professionals to help him improve relationships & assimilate to the environment.
2. Traded for other (good) players with similar personality types....to help balance out the dressing room.
<strong>Instead....Calgary:</strong>
1. Traded him for a similar & younger....but vastly inferior player in Hanafin (his highest upside is what Dougie is now).
2. Swapped forwards with similar talent & potential.
3. Gave away their best defensive prospect (possibly their best prospect in general).
Even if Fox wasn't going to sign in Calgary....he had plenty of trade value on his own....and didn't have to be shoe-horned into this deal.
<strong>Calgary lost this trade....and Dougie was worth the full return on his own.
Carolina is about to get a lot better....and DeHaan is just as good as Hanafin at the moment (just less potential).</strong>
I'M A LEAF FAN....SO I'M NOT SPECIFICALLY TRYING TO BE BIASED HERE.
BUT IT SEEMS THAT WE DO HAVE A BAD REP....SO TAKE THIS AS YOU'D LIKE.

Dallas Stars signed Stephen Johns (3 Years / $2,350,000 AAV)
Physical top 4 defenseman. I've seen worse people paid better but everyone is biased against dallas.
"Johns, 26, registered a career-high 15 points (8-7=15) in 75 regular-season games during the 2017-18 campaign. He shared first among Stars defensemen with a career-high eight goals and finished tied for third among club blueliners with a career-high +10 plus/minus rating. Among League leaders, Johns finished tied for 20th with a Stars-leading 155 blocked shots, while he ranked 21st in the NHL and led the Stars with 201 hits."

Kessel Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OshietheBeast</b></div><div>Yea, I don't think you get Kessel that easy. I mean the dude had a monster season.</div></div>
How short do you think #5 overall is? I agree that the Pens don't <strong>need</strong> to trade The Phil but the opportunity to draft Hughes would add a lot of life to the Pen's defensive pipeline. He could potentially even take over as a top pairing guy in the future.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OshietheBeast</b></div><div>And Gally was promised a role as a center</div></div>
I rarely pass up an opportunity to make fun of the Habs but if Therrien, Julien, and Bergevin all said that he just doesn't cut it at center, I would be inclined to believe them. I think Arizona will obviously help him to hit the "reset" switch and try him at Center and see how he does.
His scoring prowess really makes him a threat playing with Strome though.

...But he is... he's scored 30 goals, therefore he's a 30-goal scorer. Doesn't matter though, the point still stands, we can re-sign Carlson without being so desperate that we trade Oshie for a 2nd pairing defensive d-man.

This would give us just 1.75 mil more room, if that's the difference between us signing Carlson or not, trade away a less valuable guy like Connolly or someone for a good pick. Oshie is a 30-goal scorer, one-for-one with Scandella is not close.

They arent shopping him now, Teräväinen had a huge year. Rask I would move out of center, lighten his load and put him with Eichel. Rask has proven he can score, Eichel and Reinhart let him simplify his game and let him do his thing.

Agree with this. Not sure who the best fit for Barrie would be, but it's not Carolina.
Maybe TBL? You could move him for Tyler Johnson or Miller's RFA rights - similar salary hits, TBL needs a RHD and has a ton of depth up front.

For ClockReads2113
I don’t see the value in trading away two starting goalies, one being the one who just blew everyone away in the playoffs including shutting out arguably one of the best offensive teams in the league in game 6 and 7 of the ECF, the other being a young and improving goalie who is a cost controlled RFA. Especially with that type of return. I have no interest in Bishop, he’s just an average starting goalie, Methot was out almost all last season, and Orpik looked solid in the playoffs. We don’t need to make this trade to make room for Carlson. No need to drop 5 million on DSP, Chiasson, and beagle combined. And you’re omitting Chandler Stephenson, who just had a stellar playoff perfromance as well. This trade doesn’t make sense for Washington at ALL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Danny272</b></div><div>Bishop average is laughable. Methot will bounce back and hes retained anyway you get into top 15 for draft pick. Ilya samsonov is supposedly your up and comer in net. With these moves you'll be able to contend longer because you'll have cap space for everyone. This is just the most cap friendly solution I could think of today</div></div>
Good work but you don't need the space. This trade is very CapFriendly. It's only a little rougher on a random successful team whose needs you haven't remotely considered but who does have good players you'd like than half of what's posted on here. It's not cap friendly, but it is Sooooo Very CapFriendly.
Washington counters with Grubauer for a 15th overall pick. If Dallas' pick is higher, and I'm not going to pretend to know enough about Dallas to remember, then trade it down somewhere else until it isn't, and then trade it for Grubauer. He was top ten in GAA and spct last season among goalies who played at least 30 games. So he and Bishop can alternate months and keep each other from getting too worn out. It should be enough to get Dallas to the playoffs. Okay?
