As a Tampa fan, I'll take that trade all day.... Condra is an AHL player and we somehow move up in the draft... I'd take Kovalchuk even if we just flip him for another pick. That'd be horrible for New Jersey, they could get a lot more for him.
Those are some of the weirdest contract numbers I've seen. Severson will probably get 4M.</div></div>
Highest ELC is exactly that, but I'd put something higher if I was doing this if there is a chance of him reaching any bonuses. Overages could really hurt a team down the line.

The next phase of development
Why would the team trade for Halak then bury him? He's so much better than McElhinney. Also, Nielsen is nowhere near ready. He's put up points, but defensively he isn't there. They'd be better off not making that trade.

Vancouver Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>There's absolutely nothing in that trade that would even get you close to Hutton.
Not trying to be mean here, but Soshkinov is a bottom 6 fwd. Leivo is also a bottom 6. Between the two of them, one might turn out to be a top 9 guy. The 2nd round pick is late in the 2nd. Hutton is a 24 year old shutdown top 4 dman, under cheap team control for the next 3 (Maybe more?) year. Not saying that Soshkinov and Leivo are trash, but every organization has a number of Leivo/Soshkinov types. Everyone wants a Hutton.</div></div>
This is coming from a die-hard leafs fan.
You're right with the trade not being close, but Leivo would be a fine top 6/9 player. He's a good scoring winger, who is excellent on the powerplay. I think whoever winds up with Leivo has an excellent player, who can play anywhere in the lineup. He's got tremendous skill and an excellent shot. Soshnikov is highly over-rated. People just remember his first goal and expect that every time he touches the puck. In reality, he's a fringe NHLer at best. He's okay on the 4th line, but he's not likely ever going to give you more than 10 goals a year. His career scoring in the AHL is about the same as Rich Clune. Not exactly someone I'd project to have a long NHL career.

Dude Trouba has more value than Mantha or Larkin, one is gonna come back if Trouba goes because you have to give good players to get them.
Also don't put Little and Laine together, it's pretty clear that they don't have the chemistry that Scheif-Laine and Little-Wheels do.</div></div>

I like this team but I think you would have to give up something more to get Brown, nothing significant but maybe a mid pick? The same with the Vegas deal, I don't think you'd get anything back, maybe give them a 3rd instead?</div></div>
Babcock loves Brown and is exempt from the expansion draft. Why would the Leafs trade an exempt forward (who is only 23 and just scored 20 goals...), plus the defenseman they are likely to expose, for a defensemen that they would expose? The leafs already have to protect Rielly, Gardiner, and Carrick (most likely), they will not take on your player you can't protect for a good forward and a "mid pick".

Haula is the tricky one. If he'll take a ~$2m deal I'd try and keep him.
Pommer has a NMC too, guessing you had him waive it? Nino easily gets taken over Scandella from Vegas, Staal probably would too (1C's are hard to come by).

I don't know too much about the wild, so I'll gladly admit that a few of my picks are wrong, and I missed a few details. If Olofsson or Reilly are ready, I'd gladly fit them in.
I had a note written before about Pommer that didn't save. Yes, I'd ask him to waive. His contract would essentially protect him.
I agree on Nino, I missed him in the list, thought he was exempt (my bad). I personally think he's one of the best on the team. Staal's concussion might scare Vegas away from him though.
Yes, I'd trade Koivu. He's aging and needs a new contract next year. I'd trade him while there's value. As an 'outsider' I have no ties to him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Liked your teams better when you were drunk:D
Agree with you that the core is going to be together. Just a couple of comments. If Gardiner stays an his "high level" of last year, I wonder if he is going to be affordable to the Leafs at 4.5m. Wonder if Komarov at his advancing years would still be an NHLer, but maybe he will still have the legs to keep on playing. Nyquist? Think he will be better than he is now to be difference maker for the Leafs.. Watched the Memorial Cup last night. Bracco certainly showed his great skating and puck handling skills. Still wonder if they transfer into a NHL style game though.
Manson, who think even if was available the Ducks would want immediate help not just picks....maybe expansion exempt guys like Hyman and Dermot. And with Vatanen on LTIR, I can't see the Ducks trading him. Hyman as third line centre? Think the Leafs would want a better offensive guy, but I don't know if they anyone in their system that qualifies, unless Brooks shows he's an NHLer.
But a pretty good prediction for two full years down the road.....sorry didn't mark. Four star worthy.</div></div>
I think Komarov can be an effective NHLer in a couple years, but not to the capacity we are used to. He will likely be a Tomas Holmstrom type. Gritty, solid defensively, and good in front of the net.

As a leaf fan, I'd be okay if this deal never happened. Dumba is a decent defensemen, but his ideal usage is basically the same as Zaitsev. In order to truly maximize either player, the other would suffer. Better off leaving the players where they are.

Most of these deals are bad... I would not trade Nylander and Gardiner for Pearson and Doughty, let alone throwing in a decent prospect and a pick. Nylander is just scratching the surface and will only get better.
Alzner is not an improvement over who they have. I'd rather run Rielly/Zaitsev, Gardiner/Carrick, Dermott/TBD, than both trade Gardiner and sign Alzner.

Toronto would NEVER make that trade. Seabrook doesn't fit with Toronto's needs. His contract is waaaaay to rich for 99% of the teams to take on, let alone move a high end player like JvR with a pick to get. Toronto has a lot of high-end talent needing contracts in the near future, and while they can afford to take on salary, taking on the term will not happen.

Oh man! I would love that trade to happen! Trade the Plekanec, the best goalie in the world, a top D Prospect, and a decent young forward for Toews and Crawford! Man! The Leafs, Sens, Bruins, and basically everyone in the east lines up to shake hands with Montreal for doing that! Toews is declining hard, and will continue to decline. He used to be an elite center, now I don't even consider him top 10. He's behind McDavid, Crosby, Malkin, Matthews, Backstrom, Tavares, Eichel, Seguin... just to name a few! Chicago would make away like bandits on this trade. Not only do they get the better players, they get the cap space they need too.
Go ahead and make the trade montreal. Everyone will thank them.

I bet you they can. They don't have many significant long term contracts that will prevent this. They will lock them up long term. If you think that McDonagh is good enough to ask Marner one for one, give your head a shake. The leafs aren't Edmonton.

I assume you're looking for advice on a fantasy pool trade? If that's the case, I'd definitely look at the Arvidsson trade. He's younger than burns, and is just coming into his own now. He'll be dominant for a few more years, while burns is on the edge of declining (still great, don't get me wrong). A lot of it can depend on the rest of your D too though

Enstrom would be a mistake! He's simply not good! He hasn't had 1 down year. He's had 3 consecutive. He might be a 5/6 D this year if he was on MTL, definitely not playing with Weber... Last year is his ceiling for this year. At least with Emelin you know not to expect anything

Slowly retool back end while staying competitive
I honestly don't see most of these moves happening. Sheahan is not worth a second round pick at this point. Vegas will more than likely stay away from Helm. Calgary would consider the trade, but I don't think stone is the player people think he is.
Let's say Vegas takes a cheaper player, Jensen for arguments sake. Holding off on the Green trade until the deadline puts the team over the cap. There may need to be a few more creative moves if you want to 'stay competitive'
