It is what it is.
Hello, fellow members of Leaf's Nation, I've been an enthusiastic fan throughout my entire life. Over the course of four decades, I've embraced the highs and lows of our team and engaged in countless discussions. However, I find myself in an unfamiliar place. Recently, I've lost the desire to watch games, and I can't even bring myself to watch highlights. A contributing factor is the influence of 'wokism,' along with prevailing political themes and a sense of Canadian melancholy casting a shadow over my enjoyment. Hockey used to be my refuge from the outside world, but now it seems there's no escaping these external issues. Adding to the challenge is the looming expiration date on the core four players, with the disappointment of one playoff win followed by subsequent letdowns. Now, as we navigate this season, I can't help but wonder how others are interpreting these developments. Can anyone else relate to this sentiment?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PJ_Acorn</b></div><div>Is it possible that Leafs can outscore their defensive liabilities to win a 2022 cup?
We all know it, even if we won’t admit it aloud... the way this team is built has too many problems and no space to fix them. So why practice poor asset management when you know you are defeated. Being an original 6 team can be a curse. It took bravery for Shannan to “scorched-earth,” recalling he said, “we will have patience and do it the right way”. Well, it’s becoming more apparent that the right way now is a mini-retreat. I don’t like it, and I would never have agreed to it then, but if we fail to read the signs, we will watch all that promise we felt early in the rebuild continue to fade away until nothing is left but an empty barn. Another sad truth we must all face is the Tavares signing disrupted the PLAN and is now the cap-clamp that is ailing this team. Our scorched-earth-pain earned us Matthews, Marner, and Nylander; they are our true core we must face it before it is too late.
Johnny must go now, not in the offseason. I fear the cost otherwise!</div></div>
Still Agree today! Tavares needs to go!

Sorry, it took a while for the sting to subside but I stick with my opinion. There was no need to take Liljigren out of that series, especially when your replacement is Holl.
That is why they lost!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>OK, I'll agree that Holl at times hasn't played well at times. But you must have blinders on. Muzzin has been the Leafs worse Dman this season. Holl's play got much better when Muzzin when to LTIR.
Was Holl on five goals against Florida? He was still a plus one. Glad his PK partner contributed was blameless when those goals were scored.
It's been Brodie who has been really poor defensively lately....but of course so many fans just can't seem to be able criticize the high price players. It seems always Holl.Liljegren (or Dermot) fault when the the opposition scores.
I hope the Leafs rotate their Dmen in and out of the lineup during the rest of the season. It's just not productive to have a guy suddenly thrust into the lineup when a injury
occurs, and this new replacement hasn't seen the ice for four weeks.
And thank you for not noticing the two big defensive gaffs by Giordano and Brodie that resulted in Florida's second and third goals on Tuesday.</div></div>
I agree and disagree with you.
<strong>I Agree</strong>
Muzzin hasn't been good at all. (If I were GM, I'd have traded him last offseason... he is always injured and highly overrated)
Brodie sucks on the Left Side (weirdly)
<strong>I disagree </strong>
A defender should defend not be beyond the opposition's goal line. Therefore +/- to me means nothing.
I don't dump on our young players because I would rather them make mistakes and learn...To me, that is DEVELOPMENT.
Lastly, when searching for an answer to a dynamic problem, one needs to apply a fractional analysis. Meaning the common denominator is HOLL
If he hadn't put himself so far out of position, his partners wouldn't be left with high-risk defending.
Also, he plays weak in front of the net and often can't clear the space.

No doubt. Liljigren Drafted #17 (2017), Sandin Drafted #29 (2018) by that measure they are our future.
This was my concern about bringing Giodano here in the first place... however, I regressed because Gio is amazing for Liljigrens growth.

One bad game does not = lost cause
Holl since 2022 has been a solid defenseman who can block shots, hit, and defend while also provide some offense
Meanwhile Liligren has 0 playoff experience and like we saw with Sandin that can come back to bite us later. So having more experienced guys in is often what coaches will do.
Would suggest you do your research next time before you post lul
Coaches always experiment about this time as now with Muzzin back we need to see what works and what does not as if someone gets hurt then Keefe will know who can jump in and play with who.</div></div>
Ok, clearly we disagree and that is fine but, I don't understand how you can think what you are saying is true.
If you actually watched the games as seriously as you pay attention to arbitrary stats maybe you can appreciate our stance, the sheer number of times he is out-muscled in his own zone is evidence enough.
Liljigren playing with Giodano is amazing for his development and it is working.
Liljigren is the future of TML defence core, whereas Holl is not much more than a stopgap.

Hello Mr. Keefe, I am a fan of the TML, so much I drove from Manitoba to watch game 6&7 of the Calder cup championship. That said, I have noticed something. I'm sure I'm not the only Leaf fan who has, so here it is.
There is a hole in our defence, and we see it every time you put Holl on the ice. When Muzzin returns, you sit the best stay-at-home defender we got in Lubuskin, and that results in getting shelled for seven goals, of which I believe Holl was on the ice for 5. Okay, if that wasn't bad enough, you break up the development of the 22-year-old RHD defender of tomorrow just as he is playing the best hockey of his career for another chance to witness a hole on defence.
What gives Keefe??? You keep taking sympathy on lost-cause-defenders... it didn't work for Marincin, and it sure as heck isn't working for Holl.
Please give it up, Sheldon, or you'll find Leaf's nation chanting Fire Keefe soon enough.

He’s a local boy living his childhood dream of captaining the Leafs, and he made sure he got a contract that lets him live that dream for as long as he wants. No-move for the full duration, and most of the pay is in signing bonuses so it would save them only a few hundred thousand to buy him out. Those are the facts we have to face.</div></div>
The signing bonus makes it easier to trade him! But I hear the logic you are suggesting here.

Agree; this is offensive!
I wouldn't trade them player for player. With all due respect, these are two great Players!
I don't watch the Oilers much, but I never see McDavid play the defensive side of the puck as Matthews does.
Matthews outpowers people to win puck battles and retrieve pucks.
If McDavid isn't passed, the puck he isn't very dangerous.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GenXHockey</b></div><div>The problem is where you rank Holl. He's been one of our best Dmen since the Christmas break. Brodie Holl and Boosh are a perfectly fine right side. With Lilly ready to go in case of injury. Our left side is a train wreck. We will have to agree to disagree on Holl. I think Lyubushkin is a perfect fit for Reilly; my question is, does he have the stamina to play big minutes? I am starting to like this trade a bit more; however, my instincts are sound, yet they are tomorrow's problem now.
If the coach spreads the ice evenly, this lineup is formidable.
(1) Lyubushkin Reilly
(2 or 3) Liljegren Giordano
(3 or 2) Brodie Muzzin

If your are happy about this trade please enjoy, because I don't want to burst anyones bubble, however,I would like to share my views on this trade.
I am not that excited to be honest. I don't get it!
I mean Giordano could be a great add if we needed a left shot defender. But <strong>we don't </strong>we need a right shot defender. Doing something for the sakes of doing something even if it is a good player seems a waste of futures. Fair enough, 2nd rounders aren't first rounders but there is still a good chance to find a reliable project player or am I mistaken?
How are these pairing going to work???
With this trade is Dubis telling the coach "lets stunt/ruin Sandins development", forcing him to play his weak side.
Ranking TML LHD
1) Rielly
2) Giordano
3) Brodie (Can Play R-side)
4) Muzzin
5) Sandin

1) LYUBUSHKIN
2) LILJEGREN (Still Developing)
3) Holl (Nightmare)

Leafs main issue rn goaltending. Go get someone to replace Mrazek and get a healthy Campbell back your set.
If no injuries happen in the post season and the team plays like they did at the start of the year easily see them winning a round. Especially with how Matthews has been playing.
Dont need to win a cup rn. Just win a round or two and thats progress.
If Dubas brings in guys with term and what I said above happens nobody will complain. But the following year better results will be expected and thats when the teams got to step up. Heck we have seen 2 Cinderella runs from lesser teams in the past 2 years. So in general nobody can predict how far a team will go
