It is time to face the facts.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jr400</b></div><div>I assume that’s because the Leafs would pay the bonus for the upcoming season before they trade him, leaving the team that acquires him on the hook for only his $910,000 base salary for that season. Another “tradeable” aspect of his contract is that it’s front-loaded, so even with the bonus he’s now earning a more reasonable $7.95M per season. But these things make a difference only to a team that cares more about the cash than the cap hit. There aren’t many of those, and he probably wouldn’t waive his no-move clause to go to one of them.
Like it or not, he's going to be in Toronto for three more years. He has total control. There's nothing the team can do.</div></div>
There's more teams in the league who care about actual money being paid vs what the cap hit is. COVID has done more damage to owners who do care about actual money than owners like MLSE.

I agree
But I want him to stay
Fortunately, every passing year the leafs have Tavares, they will win nada
Just how the cap is 🤷♂️

Thanks for your insight. Hopefully for their sake, some of these non draftees fool everyone and become NHLers. But really the odds are against them, (they weren't drafted for a reason), as for whatever reason they didn't appear to be NHL capable.

D man with term
The funny thing is people go we need to replace Holl... I am in the middle as I honestly think he needs some time in the pressbox and with the training staff to get his confidence back
This is his stats this year. Notice where the Blue is...
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">this is now a "justin holl is just kinda mid like he's not the worst player ever just chill y'know" account <a href="https://t.co/KyHO5dfha6" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://t.co/KyHO5dfha6</a> <a href="https://t.co/0n7QEZiu0a" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">pic.twitter.com/0n7QEZiu0a</a></p>— JFresh (@JFreshHockey) <a href="https://twitter.com/JFreshHockey/status/1495960298687242242?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">February 22, 2022</a></blockquote>
Now what I do think is he is not suited for a top 4 role. I think you try and slide him down to the third pair. But if someone is willing to take him without us paying anything sure. As we all know when hes motivated and in the zone what he can do. He basically gets the job done and Pittsburgh won a cup with a dcore comprised of 5 Holl type players.
So in general idk if we go for a Dman with term as we got one in Holl. Maybe instead they go for another rental Dman but go for a LW like Hagel who has the term. As 1.5mill x 2.5 years is pretty nice.

It is time to face the facts.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PJ_Acorn</b></div><div>Is it possible that Leafs can outscore their defensive liabilities to win a 2022 cup?
We all know it, even if we won’t admit it aloud... the way this team is built has too many problems and no space to fix them. So why practice poor asset management when you know you are defeated. Being an original 6 team can be a curse. It took bravery for Shannan to “scorched-earth,” recalling he said, “we will have patience and do it the right way”. Well, it’s becoming more apparent that the right way now is a mini-retreat. I don’t like it, and I would never have agreed to it then, but if we fail to read the signs, we will watch all that promise we felt early in the rebuild continue to fade away until nothing is left but an empty barn. Another sad truth we must all face is the Tavares signing disrupted the PLAN and is now the cap-clamp that is ailing this team. Our scorched-earth-pain earned us Matthews, Marner, and Nylander; they are our true core we must face it before it is too late.
Johnny must go now, not in the offseason. I fear the cost otherwise!</div></div>
Well forget about NMC Tavares waiving.
I kinda liked what Shanahan and Lou did to build a good foundation after years of horrid Leaf management. But in the past few years Shanahan and his high priced executive has been MIA. Terrible signings, such as Marleau and now Muzzin looks putrid. Giving away draft choices without any improving the team Even worse were the contracts negotiated with Matthews, and Marner and I sure looks like Mrzarek is another.

D for today Goalie for tomorrow
Let's not ruin a good relationship with an offer like this.
The only value here are the 2 picks and Robertson, and that wouldn't get Gibson by himself, but it would be an overpayment for Lindholm on his own.

Kallgren has as much of a chance to get us out of the first round as Vejmelka. Both him and Kessel could be had for a 4th alone. Why would the Leafs give up a top 3 prospect in our system and a first just to get rid of Mrazek.

Leafs All in 4 Gibson
The value is there.
ANA will feel it pushes their rebuild back, as the best way is to build a top team is from the net out.
TOR can't afford to give up this much future, but Gibson is one of a handful of players that management could actually justify it for.
That being said, I just can't see them making the deal either.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PJ_Acorn</b></div><div>That's a fair request, although I disagree about Mikeyev being just a throw-in. He is a top-six winger. I often feel if he had more ice he would be a 60 point player in the right position. He will never get that shot in Toronto because of Nylander and Marner. Because we have had a good history with the ducks and wish to continue with that in mind I would add Kral to this offer and solidify this transaction.</div></div>
I agree with your assessment of Mikeyev, though most on here think much differently. I love him on our team, but he'll probably be an off season casualty.
