Not that much better than last year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>I’m honestly intrigued that you think these players are going to become better? They (big 3) are more than likely at their ceiling which is pretty high tbh. They need to gain experienced and learn how to play playoff hockey. They are soft. hard work beats talent most of the time but if talent works hard ..... this is what they need to figure out</div></div>
One of the only teams that has as much top end talent as TO just won the cup and it wasn't the grinders who won the day, Point, Kucherov and Hedman were the ones who carried the day. Took Hedman until now to get over the hump but Matthews is a failure because he didn't win 3 cups in his first 3 seasons.
As for your question of why I think they will get better, because that is what happens with young players. Look at MacKinnon's first 300 games and compare it to Nylander, look at Matthews or compare Kane to Marner in the same age years. Almost all players hit their peak around 24-25, Nylander is the oldest and just turned 24 this year. All of these guys are going to get better but of course TO players peaked before they entered their prime.

So that's four dman at 6m$+, and still no real top 6 center. Dumba may be on the move

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PJosephM13</b></div><div>Who is A better Fit?</div></div>
Off the top of my head, DeMelo, Dillon, potentially looking at the RFA pool, Haydn Fleury. Literally anyone who actually played hockey instead of sitting in the press box after he wasn't good enough to make a blueline that was injury-riddled, and decided to strengthen at the deadline rather than play him

Let the kid play 27 minutes in the minors
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I tend to agree with you, but only if the Leafs think his replacement is as good as Sandin is playing now. Leafs will still have to carry seven Dmen.
Sandin have played six games so far, the Marlies only three, so the Leafs haven't stymied his growth so far</div></div>
I think if he can play at least 15 minutes a game, he is better off playing in the NHL over the AHL

And bring Liljegren up so him and Dermott can play together whole year. That pairing was beasty in AHL two years ago when they were teenagers as top pairing. They would be great together.

What is marner realistically worth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Yea, the "Eugene" probably means the Sens would like to trade equal money to the Leafs. And the Sens don't really have players that make a fit for the Leafs.
Marner is a tough trade. In most cases, the Leafs would have to take back equal money. And the other teams are probably as frustrated with the Marner negotiations as the Leafs are. They don't want to overpay for him either. Actually Marner's perceived "arrogance" just might make him a guy teams don't even want to trade for....and least right now.</div></div>
I think that's really the danger with the tactics that his camp is using. Marner just might price himself outta hockey.. cause I'm not sure if anyone thinks he's really worth what his camp is pushing. My guess is that he'll bend on his demands, if not break.

Gee yeah, a two year old Couture and the thought of Hertl and Kane really makes a killer team. And Meier's parents are still in high school.

How much is Rantanen worth
I think he's waiting until Marner signs or at least one of the other RFA's and will take approx the same as they're getting with an adjustment for the tax rates and what not. I think Marner's contract really is the thing holding everyone back. Point kind of gets whatever he gets since he's a center and plays in TB, Tkachuk isn't quite in the same echelon as the other RFA's. Marner being the highest scorer of the 3 main wingers and to slight concern to Point, will dictate the contracts.
Marner isn't waiting for those other guys to sign. The other guys are very much watching what happens with Marner to know what they're worth.

Help us russia
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BrandonDubinskyGOAT</b></div><div>I took a look at the stats. Kadri and Marner got put together on January 24th 2018 against the Avs. In the final 33 games of the regular season with either Marleau or JVR rotating on the left wing, Marner put up 36 points for a points per game avarage of 1.09. That would’ve put him on pace for 90 points in 82 games. He finished the season with only 70 points, however keep in mind he played the majority of his first 49 games on the fourth line. If you also include what he did in the post season, then it’s 45 points in 40 games for a 1.125 points per game average.</div></div>
He did not play the majority of the first 40 games on the fourth line. He played a bit. Plus he had plenty of power play time throughout the year.
But yes he is quite a talented player.
But what does all this have to do with the above team?

100%, but he needs to learn that complexity in defensive game and transition game and putting up points outside powerplay. Thats why the 2nd year in AHL would help. Liljegren is absolutely ready thanks to 2nd year. He change his trajectory from like Subban type of rush offensive Dman to like prime Stralman type of two-way beast. He good!

They still have Matthews, Tavares, Nylander, Kerfoot, Kapanen, Johnsson, Dermott, Rielly, Muzzin and Barrie. They are great team with and without Marner. Hopefully Marner is there for a whole year, but if not, they are fine.

Obviously it’s just a prelude to him “potentially” suiting up for the Lions when contract talks go nowhere. First or second week of September Dreger should be tweeting that.
But to your AGM, I’d really love to see Bracco there while Marner is out. Obviously he’s no Marner but he’s the closest thing the Leafs have in the system. He’d never usurp Marner but it’d be nice to know what he can do and if he can replace future players lost in the cap crunch.
