Re-tool the Leafs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>you are boxing us all into one based on the one's wild opinions. just because we say no to marner because we cant afford him long term doesnt mean we dont want or like Marner.
dependent on Matthews wants for an extension, i would be highly interested in this deal.
if we took the philly 2nd off the list, we could take on Murray too.</div></div>
I dont think the Leafs need to dump Murray if they get rid of Marner and Matthews.

off season re-tool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>My goodness, look at you go while refusing to understand context at all.
You see, if you read the thread, you'd know that my use of underlying starts was in response to him saying that the goalie was a better option than samsonov, and clearly he isnt by all standards.
And if you wanna know why i dont think hes very good, well maybe it has something to do with the entire picture, unless you think sam montembault and jeremy swayman are top 15 goalies in the league. Using a couple underlying numbers as a be all end all for "this guy is a top 15 player in the league" is as dumb a thing to say as "if you watched the games you'd know".
But then, youd understand that if you werent getting so mad and throwing a tantrum</div></div>
Yeah ik the guy claimed Samsonov was better even tho those stats say otherwise, but you claimed Vajmelka didn't have good numbers when he in fact does have good stats. Id argue being top 15 in multiple stats that most people use to measure how good a goalie holds far more weight than some random going "well ive watched him play and my eyes work not yours so I know all about him and you dont". Also Montembault has been a pretty good goalie this year for Montreal and Swayman could be a starter in this league. Youre trying really hard to just avoid admitting you got proven wrong.

Youre the most fragile person I seen on this site. Getting all mad and throwing a hissy fit every time you get proven wrong then pull the eye test bs because you have nothing else to back up your incorrect points. If Vajmelka isn't a starter and has bad stats why does he rank top 15-20 in underlying stats for goalies? You would think a Leafs fan of all people would know how good Vajmelka is considering he stonewalled your sorry ass team like 3 times in the last 2 years.

I dont think its some coincidence he started too look like a good goalie once he went to a good defensive team. But you know what, lets say youre right and Samsonov > Vajmelka, you still claimed Vajmelka wasn't a starter and that he doesnt have good results or put up okay numbers but youre clearly wrong on that and I gave proof.</div></div>
This guy actually tried to claim Vajmelka wasn't a starter or that he doesnt have good numbers lmao holy never seen a guy be so wrong on here before.

You use WAR saves above expected to prove your argument but claim Vajmelka isn't a starter and hasn't put up good stats behind a terrible team yet he ranks top 15 in both of those stats. I guess the stats are only credible when they help your argument.

Because you still need to see the ice well and have offensive talent, even moreso on a bad team as Patrick Kane is proving.</div></div>
Dude, on a contender Max Domi is a 3rd liner. Theres a reason why nobody bothered trading for him last deadline. Max Domi is the equivalent of <a href="/users/ripnasty" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@ripnasty</a>, mediocre and dumb

Making a change

You just have to pay something to get something. Especially under a flat cap. CHI's GM has been pretty clear that he is going to leverage their cap space and that it's going to cost other teams. Also, retention slots are a finite resource. Every team only gets three of them.
I dont know if you remember, but Chicago was bent over a barrel for cap space multiple times during their dynasty years. It's just the way things are.</div></div>
You mean like how he basically took on Mrazeks deal for nothing? Or gave away Debrincat for 50 cents on the dollar? Thats him leveraging cap space lol?

He's not being spoon-fed if you watch the games. You'd also notice he clearly isn't a 4th liner if you watch him.</div></div>
He gets a lot of minutes and opportunities because theres literally nobody else to play and doesn't have to worry about defence because the Hawks dont care about winning. Any fringe athlete can succeed on a team like that. The Leafs had plenty of scrubs put up decent numbers because they got played like top line players.

Sandin has been in the top 4 on a top 5 defensive team this year. Far better than Crappo Krakko who needs to be spoon-feed opportunities just to look better than a replacement level player

I dont know if you're allergic to facts or what, but it was reported a tonne that the Tavares contract created an internal cap structure and that Nylander asked for a huge contract with the belief that Marner was going to get a lot and Nylander didn't want to be significantly outlaid by Marner. I never said he signed after, but I guess making things up is easier for you than admitting you dont know what you're talking about.

Because Edmonton needs all the cap they can get. I dont know why fans on here are so greedy lol, since when does it cost something more than a low pick if anything to get rid of a 1.25M cap hit.

The only reason I would be interested is I feel like Nylander is going to want to be paid like Matthews and Marner, at least if we trade for Meier we can jump the gun and get him signed 1st hopefully to a 8.5Mx8.
