Oh look, another post and you're wrong. When I said out of shape I didn't mean overweight. Matthews even said he was just jacked but wasn't in game shape. If you dont understand hockey just say that because all your posts indirectly say that.

7m was high for him, he asked for 8.5m or something stupid and held out for like half the year because he wouldn't budge then showed up out of shape to play. All he cares about is money, hes proved that yet you think hes gonna sign a "fair" contract lol.

Severson and Lucic
Why would u trade a useful player in Kerfoot for a guy who isn't any better than Clifford at this point? Kerfoot is a 30-40 point player who can play all 3 positions and is a great 2-way player and penalty killer. You want to give that up just for useless "grit"? Also Severson is just another Jake Gardiner.

The article you linked claimed if they wanted to trade for someone they have to get rid of Engvalls cap. That doesn't equal them wanting to dump Engvall which is what you're trying to claim. The coaches and management love Engvall for some reason, theres a reason they've been so loyal and been willing to spend more time working with him as opposed to guys like Ritchie, Barabanov, NAK ETC.

And You cant use a 'potential' contract as a bench mark because it doesnt exist, you gotta stop making stuff up and do the smallest bit of research instead of regurgitating whatever you think you remember nick kypreos ranting about.
Nylander has always been paid at at least market value, and you hoping back and forth between made up points doesnt change that.</div></div>
Thats literally what Nylander did, he wanted 8M because he didn't want to be paid far less than Marner. Nylander wasn't worth 7M when he signed that deal. Theres a reason why Dubas gets goofed on for his negotiation skills and thats Exhibit A. Also doesn't matter when they signed, their contracts expired the same season. Ehlers signed an early extension, while Nylander literally waited until the last possible second.

He's a depth guy getting paid too much to play as far down the lineup as he is in a cap strapped league. He provides value to the leafs sure, but there is no value for Anaheim from him in this trade. It makes no sense for either side, but you'd need to include him to it or another move to make it all cap compliant if you did. That makes him a cap dump.</div></div>
Being willing to trade a guy for a better player isn't the same as flat out wanting to get rid of a player lol. The Leafs traded Durzi for Muzzin, doesn't mean they wanted to get rid of him.

Nylander got 8.74% of the cap with two 20+ goal 61 point season
And Larkin has never been better than nylander</div></div>
Nylander and Ehlers contracts started the same year so idk why you're using different cap %. Also like I said, Nylander used Marner potential contact as a benchmark, which is why he took so long to get signed. Ehlers signed before his ELC even expired. You're kidding yourself if Nylander was being "fair" that whole negotiation. Yes hes underpaid now, but he got above market value.

Meier has had to put his line on his back and it shows as he leads the league in generating high risk scoring chances. Meier and Nylander are close, But Meier is the better player.</div></div>
Yeah Meier is the better player, but I think Nylander would still produce at the same rate in San Jose. Auston Matthews hasn't even been anything special this year like the guys been a passenger most nights, Nylander has looked better for a lot of the season. I think Matthews has benefited from Nylander just as much as Nylander benefits from playing with him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jakam1138</b></div><div>The difference is at no point has Anaheim tried to get rid of Vatrano. That would be the "dump" part missing from a "cap dump"
It's been widely reported that the Leafs have tried to move Engvall in multiple years.
But, in the specific situation as well, in order to make a hypothetical trade FOR Frank Vatrano (interest = positive value = not a dump), the Leafs would need to move out salary (or a "cap dump" if you will) to make it work. Engvall provides zero value to the Ducks, so he is on everyway a cap dump in this scenario, which is the context we're discussing.</div></div>
When has it been reported that the Leafs wanted to move Engvall lol? None of Freidman, McKenzie, Marek, Seravalli etc have claimed that. If they did why would they have re-signed him if they didn't want him?

His reported ask was 8M, what comparable player was making that much? His best comparable was Ehlers who got 6M x 7, Nylander got 7M x 6 lol. Nylander got greedy as hell last time but yeah im sure he'll be "fair" this time. Also Larkin had 2 more points the season before while being a more complete centre and not having one of the best goal scorers to feed the puck too. Larkin was absolutely better at the time.

And as far as Meier goes, he literally has a 10 million dollar qualifying offer that if he wants he doesnt have to budge on, why would he sign for 8.5? And if Meier is gonna sign an 8.5x8 then why wouldnt Nylander?</div></div>
You realize the reason the Nylander negotiation was such a debacle was he wanted 8M+ in anticipation that Marner would get the same and he didn't wanna make significantly less? He doesn't need Matthews and Marner to sign their deals to know what they're gonna demand and get, its obvious they'll get 12M+. Back when he had no leverage he was still able to get market value. If you dont watch the Leafs just say that lol. Hes just as good as Meier at generating offence on his own. Whether Nylander is with Tavares or Matthews hes been the one driving offence and completing the zone entries. Hes also been the one constantly stripping the puck away and generating chances off of turnovers. If you're whole logic is that if Nylander doesn't have a good finisher hes not as good, that applies to literally any playmaker.

That was my thinking, maybe the Leafs can throw in their 1st and SJ throws in their 2nd so SJ can move up in the draft as well. I also think SJ could get Nylander on a cheaper contract than Toronto can due SJ not having the internal cap structure Toronto has
