I try to share insight with our roster when someone makes an honest attempt with their trade proposals. That's how we all learn about another team's roster makeup and depth chart. Other times when zero effort is put into it I end up coming across as a smug salty old man yelling "get off my lawn" lol. I appreciate when someone makes an actual attempt to view a trade from both sides that doesn't include stuff like "helps Chicago get to the cap floor" or "veteran to play with Bedard". There's a point where fun turns into insulting another team's fanbase and aside from St. Louis and Vancouver, I wouldn't want to do that to anyone.

this is the type of post you get from people who still think POJ is a 1LD.
That Lindholm signing. 8x7 who would do that? For sure not the penguins and not for a guy he put at 3C.

What the last 6 games have shown us about the Pens
I feel like this is arguably the worst case scenario for the Pens. You guys sold your best winger at the TDL, and are making a late season surge which will either result in you barely missing the playoffs or getting matched up against a juggernaut. Plus, there is a first round pick on the table considering the pick moved in the Karlsson deal is only top 10 protected. Even if it's at the later stages of the lottery, you guys are still missing out on an elite prospect who you dearly need.
Pretty crappy situation

Graves for anyone
Some things to consider
1. Dubas said Graves isnt going anywhere on the GM show yesterday
2. Graves looks a lot worse than his metrics, hes actually not that bad. just overpaid
3. All the Pens Dmen are having historically bad seasons, suggests coaching is the problem.
4. On his last 2 teams Graves started with a bad season then found his game the next.

I agree with about 90% of what you said. I think Sully is going to be open to resigning and going somewhere with a window to win a cup. There’s no reason for accomplished coaches like him to sit around for a rebuild. I’m also hoping the “big splash” thinking is done. You can’t rebuild a franchise while wasting millions on the biggest name UFAs.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Steve_321</b></div><div>Why does Sid not want to move to a Canadian team and bring the cup back to Canada instead of cellaring it up for 3 seasons?</div></div>
Because he has won everything and he views his legacy more through following in Mario's footsteps and finishing his career having only played for Pittsburgh. He's the type of player that would rather captain the next generation of guys and teach them the ways than go ring chasing.
He'll sign an extension this summer and all of this nonsense can go to rest.

Dubas signed a 7 year deal for a reason. We all know that its over for the Pens and what a great two decades its been. But the organization clearly set out a plan with the core and Dubas coming in as GM. Two years trying to strike gold with Sid and the core and 5 years to build again, hence the 7 years. Its year one of that. Expect a quiet offseason with short term deals to some Vets and younger players looking for a shot. They will be keeping all draft picks moving FWD. After next season the Pens will likely be making similar moves that Montreal has been making.
Is this the best thing for the organization? Maybe, the best thing might be trading their best assets now for a massive return and advancing the rebuild several years but none of us realistically expect that.

Chicago got bedard so that means PIT gets Celebrini right
Celebrini would be great, don't get me wrong, but I absolutely LOVE Demidov! His hands are silky smooth and he makes exciting plays. That is exactly the kind of talent we need on the Penguins during the rebuild when the team is struggling, give the fans something to ooh and ahh about in the games. He would be very exciting to watch.

Agree with this. Hagan and Celebrini are both very very good prospects but not at the level of Bedard and maybe McKenna

The Blues pass, but if you feel like giving away Pettersson and Smith half retained I'm sure Army would love to discuss those players. Fairly sure the Pens won;t want to gift New Jersey goodies like that.

Just floating an idea out there. Do you think Dubas and the Pens would entertain something like this:
MTL
Anderson
Barron
2024 1st WPG
2025 3rd VAN
2024 7th WSH (We know Dubas loves his 7ths so throwing one in here)
for
PIT
Smith Reilly
2024 2nd PHI

Oilers get : Smith (50% retained 25% from Pittsburg and 25 from Zona) and O'Connor
Penguins get: Oilers 2024 1st, Lavioe, Foegele, 2025 4th rounder
Zona Get: (25% of Smith Retained), Tullio from Oilers
Does this seem fair???

I would love if Wpg would be interested in Rakell. He would provide some much needed scoring depth on the right side on our third line. The only problem with Rakell is he has 5 years left on his deal at a pretty high number.

He's actually a solid prospect and because of that I think two 2nds isn't bad, but it likely still takes a 1st to get the convo started because there would be a major bidding war for him if he came available. That said there's zero chance the Pens are trading Pettersson UNLESS it's at the deadline and they've just completely crapped the bed.

Tbh tho I don’t see Pit bringing in another big goalie contract… unless we’re completely rebuilding and saying Blomqvist is the next guy and in that case we’d move Jarry out too…
So while I think the package is close to fair in value objectively, the fit isn’t the best overall…</div></div>
Campbell is on the hook for THREE more years past this one. That's two firsts.

Losing eight out of eleven leads us to this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>Which would be significantly less than what is shown here. Calling Tippett a 'top prospect' at that point is a stretch. It was his 3rd NHL season and he had never had much success. He wasn't even eligible for Calder consideration anymore. To turn this into the Giroux trade, you'd be dropping the 2nd to a 3rd and taking Lekkerimäki, who might be the biggest piece of the trade on the Vancouver side, out entirely and delaying the 1st round pick. That's the gap and it's a very significant leap.</div></div>
Because Giroux had significantly less value for a multitude of reasons. Giroux was 34 at the time of the trade, Jake would be 29. Giroux had a full NMC so the flyers had very little leverage. Jake has a 12 team NTC so there would absolutely be bidding war for him. Jake already has more goals and more points in 12 less games than Giroux has at the time of trade. Tippet absolutely was a top prospect. He was only 21 or just turned 22 at the time of the trade and was already getting significant nhl time. It was also only his 2nd nhl season. He played 7 games, which doesn’t count as an nhl season. Then he played 40 something games the following season which was considered his rookie season. So to sum it up, the reason there’s a significant leap in this trade to the Giroux trade is because you’re getting a better player with much more trade value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Byrr</b></div><div>By all means list them here. What you might notice is that the best players available in any given season all fetch around the same price across seasons, it doesn't matter how good they are compared to each other just that they are the best available. The only ones who fetch this kind of price are ones who have either term or extensions in place upon being traded. The idea that Guentzel is the only 'major winger' available is non-sense too. Tarasenko and Toffoli aren't all that far behind him in scoring while playing a lot less ice time. Pacioretty has had a good start in Washington too after not playing for 2 seasons. He should be expected to keep on improving.</div></div>
That is not true at all lol. Giroux was a pending UFA and got a 1st, a 3rd, and top prospect. And that was with Giroux having a NMC and picking where he went.
