Tired of this. You don't know which players will waive for what teams. You never know what can happen.

I doubt Dubas said that. He probably said something on the lines of "don't expect a big deal". That's managing expectations. But I am sure Dubas is talking to a lot of GMS about ALOT of things. Big and small.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dickie_boon</b></div><div>Horrible trade for Vegas, why did they trade a misfit? Martinez is right there, I'm sure they could have made it work</div></div>
Smith has 10 team NTC protection. PIT was probably the only one that could afford him and Smith would go to. Dubas robbed them for sure. Smith has played like a top line winger.

I like that enough for SJ, plenty of really good players left in the mid-teens and 2 years of Granlund and the pick might be worth the move up.

A better question is why publish one ACGM after another with terribly implausible transactions? You already know the Wild would match that. I explained that to you in your last AC. Yet, here we are again, and with an utterly disastrous Karlsson trade, to boot. Come on, man…

Dear god no thanks. I have zero interesting in Karlsson unless SJ retains a chunk of that.
Not to mention Petry isn't waiving for SJ, i'm betting the CA teams are on his list as they're some of the furthest from Michigan.
Doubt Dubas goes for Barbashev unless he takes a short term deal, he said he wasn't looking at any FAs that would require long deals.

Dubas just got done with his presser and said he isn't moving picks/high end prospects. So i would say this is a no.

He mentioned "small bets" when it comes to free agency so look for short term and cheap contracts in the bottom-six which is smart. Wouldn't be surprised is ZAR is back. Also would look at Mäenalanen, Khaira, etc. type players.

Moving down
If the pens move down, it should be by a few spots at most... and just so that they can fill their terrible prospect system. This trade doesn't achieve that. The value is bad for PIT.

Pens easily decline. If you're offering a 4th line forward and 6th d man to dump Granlund. Pens will just buy him out for $833K toward the cap this season. Bad trade offer.

Our biggest needs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JSEB93</b></div><div>Honest question - why is this fanbase so obsessed with Vejmelka?</div></div>
Every fanbase should be obsessed with Vejmelka. I certainly am from Columbus's point of view. Arizona has a proven history of developing good goalies, and Vejmelka is another in that line. Like the other poster said, he had pretty good numbers considering his bad team this past season (he certainly cost them in the ultimate Bedard lottery odds), and he passes the eye test, too. And the acquisition cost wouldn't be nearly that of, say, Hellebuyck or Gibson. A lot of people are going to be shocked when some contending team acquires him and he pops off like Kuemper did.

Hes a much better target than Gibson and Helly (Going to cost way to much to get). Only other goalie id consider getting is Ulmark</div></div>
I don't dislike Vejmelka, but I wouldn't give up a 1st for him. A 2nd sure, but if he's going to cost a 1st would rather get a UFA. I think trade the 1st for fix the D. No matter what goalie is behind our D as constructed currently will fail. I'm all for moving on from Jarry, he's not reliable at all, but I'm sure his numbers were down in part because of how bad our D was. Cannot expect him to make saves when there's guys standing wide open right in front of our net. Get a good puck mover and a good, physical stay at home D that can protect the net. Then get a 1a 1b tandem of two solid goalies in FA and I think that makes us a playoff team.

Dont shoot my copying
I really like a few of the ideas, the NJ and Dallas ones especially, but I think it's a little unbalanced.
I don't think any of the UFA forwards are really going to be significant improvements to the forward core, especially at those cap hits. I can see the argument for Patches and Monahan if they're healthy, but the way they've trended recently, that's a pretty big if. IMO, the forward depth is the largest issue the Pens have to address and there isn't enough done about it here.
On the other hand, there's a lot of money locked up in the defense. Soucy-Petry is a super expensive bottom pairing. Some of the money in our D aquisitions could probably be moved towards the forwards.
IMO making more than one or two additions to the defense is a luxury, while several more additions to the forwards is a necessity. I won't say no to those luxuries if we can pull them off after we've dealt with our necessities, and getting Soucy and multiple goaltenders while retaining DeSmith are luxuries. A good irl example is the Rutta signing. Solid player that made the team better, but not something that needed to be done over other potential moves.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tjk</b></div><div>Hi, as the description says I chose PIT out of whoever really. The trade is based on what I'm assuming his value is more than if it's the best fit.
As I said in the description this would be one of the worst-case scenarios for PIT, they lose out on Jarry and other big-name FAs.
"Laughs and hangs up the phone" is rude and kind of condescending... maybe in replying to people you could elaborate on why deals are bad in your opinion then essentially calling them an idiot lol</div></div>
The Pens would not be interested in a bad veteran goalie.
You also overvalued him. In the last 3 years he has a collective -0.25 WAR. For a goalie owed nearly 4MM for the next 2 years, he has no value. He probably has negative value.
