Other than the obvious which is why would anyone take on Kampf for anything let alone a 3rd rounder, Calgary’s not using a retention spot for that package.

This is one I'd actually do. Bourgault has no future in Edmonton sadly and Lavoie hasn't got the proper opportunities. The 1st and 3rds are useless for us. As much as I am against overpaying for JG I'd do this.

Its probably unlikely and I know they like him, but you have to give to get. Just playing around really, waiting for some real dominos to fall.

This is probably the likely package idea for Guentzel but imo get either another forward prospect or Beau Akey instead of Broberg. If we get Broberg without having an open spot on the defense then we'll likely have another Ty Smith situation on our hands.

One Trade One Buyout
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>Little doubt Pickering and/or Yager would be included. If you want all that retention and you want a #1 D man you aren't going to get him by dumping an old D man, trading 2 underwhelming prospects, and 1 1st and 2nd</div></div>
I think SJ has asked for Pickering or Yager, and Dubas has said no.
I think the Pens are willing to give up a young Dman (POJ or Smith), a 1st, a B prospect, and Petry (for salary reasons). They might also give up a 2nd.
I think the hold up is that SJ wants more OR Petry won't go there an no one else seems to want him. Either way, it seems either Pit has to give more or SJ has to accept less.
I don't believe Carolina's interest is genuine.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensman69</b></div><div>Agreed. Of course they’re getting a first and second and probably a third as the base. The rest can go any which way. It’s also Grier Vs. Dubas here and as you said Karlsson and Dubas have all the leverage. If he wants to be a Penguin, he’s going to be a Penguin. And if Dubas can get him, he’s getting him.</div></div>
Unless the reports of EK wanting out of SJ, He will go for under value. I Any of the 3 teams rumored to be involved will be giving up at least a cap dump player, "prospect", and a 1st and 2nd round pick. Anything else will be dependant on how much salary the sharks keep and if a third team is involved. The deal here is probably closer to actuality than anyone in SJ would like.

It’s just not gonna happen. When the trade rolls in, they’ll learn it the hard way though.</div></div>
I absolutely think high picks will go to the sharks 100%, but most likely the rest of the return won't be much of anything, maybe a prospect, but some bad cap contracts are 100% coming back to SJS given Karlsson's 11.5m hit, even with retention lol

Sharks are going to get into a weird situation. Karlsson's not going to Waive his NMC to go to any team which but has requested a trade out of SJS. They'll obviously negotiate with a team but i think his return his going to be much less than sharks fans expect. Whether that's Pittsburgh or another team, no one is going to give up much knowing he wants to leave and his NMC gives him the upper hand on what team he goes to.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensman69</b></div><div>Hopeful as ever that the deal gets done for him, and I think in response to your comment on Nylander, I think his upside is top 6 or middle 6 winger simply because of what he is capable of doing on the offensive side of the puck. Though the defense is lackluster so putting him on a line with Malkin may not be the smartest move. But if you want to keep Malkin producing for an extra year or 2 then he should do that with more then enough offensive fire power around him and guys that he can trust that will get back for him.
Also I’ve been thinking of the deadline lately and one thing that concerns me that it seems no one has brought up is, how the HELL are we going to be able to make a significant move at the deadline when we are going into the season with no money to spare. Sure you can bank in LTIR and guys being injured but if we are rolling and we are in say 2nd and 3rd in the Metro and have a healthy team going for us, then I can’t see how we are going to be able to add any more cap space on to the roster? And it’s not like we are going to have an extra $1m or a number we can work with. We are literally going to be TO THE CAP HIT. That’s just my concerns for the tdl atm</div></div>
I think it just depends how the season plays out and who plays well/dosen't. Trade deadline will be a completely different market than this offseason. Granlund's contract will be only for another year at that point, Rust's NMC will expire in the summer so the months there might not make a huge difference, Eller might not pan out and could be available. Maybe Rutta/Petry aren't traded by that point. There will be a lot of options to clear up cap space. I feel like no good teams usually have a ton of money to spend but they make it work.

Its confirmed Dubas looking for fair deals for Granlund and Petry
Petry is maybe a million overpaid. He's manageable if they aren't trading for Karlsson. Granlund and Carter are WAY overpaid. Carter is worth a million- maybe. Granlund is worth half his cap hit- maybe. That's over $4m/year being wasted by those two. Add in about a million Petry and Rutta are overpaid, and it's $6m total in poorly allocated cap hit. If Hextard didn't make these brain dead moves, they would easily be able to afford Karlsson. And THAT is why every overpayment in the cap era matters.

I like it. Roslovic is a good option for 3C. Good to get more youth in the lineup. The only thing is I personally am not super confident Nylander would hold up in the top 6. But I would be very happy with this lineup to start the season. It's definitely a playoff team. My thoughts are just focus on making it a sure playoff team now then at the deadline make the changes to make it a contender. A top 6 or third line wing upgrade is for sure something we can do at deadline. Overall though I really like this team. Fingers crossed for a Karlsson trade today

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensman69</b></div><div>Well it may be there only option and I’m sure we could spice up the deal to their liking, I get the sense Carolina is out of it or at least less interested and as for Seattle, Karlsson just doesn’t fit their timeline at all. That leaves us as the last option and we take advantage of that with our leverage. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when he’s dealt because it’s not gonna be near what people think it will be whether people want to hear it that way or not. We have seen it time and time again in situations like this.</div></div>
You're probably exactly right about this. The one other factor though is that Grier might see keeping Karlsson as a legitimate option, especially if they're retaining a whole Jeff Carter for 4 more years. Right now that cap space alone could cost as much as a 2nd or 3rd. A potential future buyout doesn't change that cap hit too much, so that's something to consider and then promptly forget about.

Regardless, as of this moment in time we are over the cap and there certainly without a doubt HAS to and WILL BE a move made to clear cap, it’s just a matter of who and where atp.</div></div>
I feel bad for the guy. Hextall set him up for disaster by thrusting him into last year’s putrid bottom 6 and expecting him to be the savior. He had a very slim chance of excelling.
Though he is a bad fit for the Pens in terms of play style and cap hit, the man had 41 points last year and 64 points the year prior.
With that being said, I do think we have no choice but to move him out, especially if Karlsson is coming in. However, people have gotten delusional on this website in regard to what they expect us to give to move him. I’ve even had a Hawks fan try to claim to me that it will cost us two 2nds and Ty Smith to move Granlund LMAO. Completely ridiculous.

I like this. I like how you put Granlund in the top 6 specifically. He is horrible defensively and is not a finisher. Would serve no role in the bottom 6 and would just tank any line that's meant to be defensive. If were keeping him then he should 100% be in top 6. I still think he can be somewhat productive there. Have him setting up Malkin and Smith/Rust.
