Just a massive over payment every step of the way. The difference is they dont care and arnt concerned about 1sts because they are trying to dynasty it.
And Kubalik is not even close to Hagel in terms of value. He's 4 years older, more expensive and is a pending UFA in a year compared to Hagel being a pending RFA in 2 years. Kubalik i also a significantly worse player defensively and was doing the significant bulk of his scoring at 5v5 while Kubalik is basically a power play specialist getting massively tilted offensive zone starts.
They are not remotely comparable</div></div>
Please, I did not say they were the same player. I think I even said that they are quite different, but... Detroit can and will ask a similar price for him considering his production and CAP hit with term. I'm not sure why you are arguing about him, seems like a moot point.

What are you talking about? A 9M dollar player? Meier is $6M. Are you talking about Skinner (who is $9M/yr)? Call me confused.

You think the Lightening overpaid? Hagel is extremely valuable considering 1.5M for this year and next. Also has 28 points in 35 games this season. They did not overpay. The trade value was spot on. Kubalik is a similar situation, more of a scorer, little higher AAV and one less year. I'd say that Detroit would be looking for a similar trade to the Hagel deal, no? Which is why I said I think it'd be too much to give up considering what I think the Leafs are looking for.

LW and D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Kerfoot is a 3C technically, he's not gifted in the circle at all but it is what it is. He only plays wing in the top 6, otherwise he's typically the C if he's on line 3. He's also the C on PP2 and PK2, although with Jarnkrok on the Leafs roster it can vary.
I don't see Blues trading ROR unless 1) contract negotiations aren't going too well and 2) the Blues are more of a long-shot to make the playoffs, if they are pretty close or in and still willing to move him, then for sure it would require a more significant piece going their way, someone like Knies over Robertson if it's the Leafs who are trading for him. So, the context of in which he's being dealt is important too, I was just assuming that the assumption here is that they are out, looking in. Even then, the offer I suggested could easily get outbid, I'm not denying that at all.
Unless a certain player is known to be a teams target or is going to have 10+ teams binding for him, I tend to lean more towards the buyers when evaluating a "realistic" mock trade or offer because the team selling is always going to take the perceived best offer for them.</div></div>
I thought I saw his name out there that the Blues were entertaining offers.

LW and D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>You said "The Leafs need to find a permanent solution to their LW in the top 6", there's no guarantee that O'Reilly would stay around, he would need to take no more than 5mx5, but probably something more like 4.25mx6 which is a major discount, it would put his career earnings to 100m before taxes but that doesn't mean he would be willing.</div></div>
I would agree. I don't think there is an option for permanent LW out there this season at the moment. I think Ryan O'Rielly will return to decent form and the TML don't need his scoring. They need a great 3C or 2C to allow Tavares to play C/LW. It gives more options in the top 6 and bottom 6, and not just offensive options.

Sandin will likely sign for more or the same as Liljegren. If he would accept 1.4M it'd be a done deal. I'm hoping with the Durzi contract that Sandin will sign somewhere in the 1.4-1.7 range.

My ideal situation Hard choice but best for the long term
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>The_Cannon</b></div><div>As for muzzin being worth zero. I’m implying that we were trying to get Ryan for free. We wouldn’t be turning and trying to offer assets for a worse player. Here’s the thing if you don’t move muzzin and petr, your kinda close to the cap. So we wouldn’t be looking to do you any favors. So that’s where we stand</div></div>
My point was that McDonough has zero trade value because the Lightening need to move him to resign important players (Palat, etc.) He was clearly the man that had to leave based on age and contract. Muzzin is not that. McDonough may be better than Muzzin but it isn't a huge gap and Muzzin still has trade value since he is a solid player, the type of Dman most teams want to have at least 1, if not 2, of. He is signed two more years at a reasonable cap hit. Toronto doesn't need to trade him but it is what I think they should consider since Sandin deserves more of a look and is apparently concerned about his role on the team/ice time.

Korpisalo has never said he wants to leave nor has it been reported by anyone tied to the Jackets media. If he wanted to leave he would be testing FA.</div></div>
OK, fair enough. If I were him I'd take the trade though, maybe try to get a little more value for the Mrazek deal but Muzzin is a damn good dman to be getting for a low cost. Think of all the value that could be had flipping and retaining on him! Columbus ins't in it next year, sell off Muzzin for 1.5 or 2 years at 2.8M per. That would be some value added.

How is Muzzin worth zero? Please explain. His contract is perfectly fair for a player like him and 2 more years. It doesn't run too long like the McDonough contract AND isn't on a cap strapped team like Tampa. I think people fail to realize that Toronto does not have cap problems this year. They are fine everywhere except in goal and I don't think any UFA goalies except MAF are the answer for them.

Manson likely back to Anaheim yes, but if I got to pick and choose, I think he'd be great in Toronto with Sandin as a partner.

They were in on McDonough, while he may be better than Muzzin, Muzzin is comparable, slightly cheaper and on a fair deal that doesn't continue for FOUR more years. Muzzin has actual value, quality defender and good leader. I hate to see him go. McDonough was traded for nothing because of a cap squeeze, Toronto is NOT in that situation.

Exploring Potential Partners For Muzzin
I don't think we need a partner for Muzzin.
I think the real need is top line LW and most importantly a Muzzin backup. What if Muzzin goes down? Who plays in his place? For that reason I would lean towards bringing in Oleksiak from Seattle.
