TDL and Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>He was a cap dump when traded to Montreal. Pittsburgh insisted that Montreal take him.
The Jets are finished with Schmidt's contract next year, they'd be stuck with Matheson 's bloated deal for another 2 and the Jets have actual good players coming up that need raises.
Matheson is too expensive to play another 2 seasons behind Morrissey when the Jets need a good defensive RH defenseman.
Why waste assets on another LHD when the Jets need an RHD?
He's an average 2nd pairing D and has never been considered top pairing by anyone.
If these players we're as good as Montreal fans tell us they are, Montreal wouldn't consistently be one of the worst teams in the league.
6 strikes you're out twice.</div></div>
you are the same dude who said Monahan wasnt good enough for the Jets and he is easily in your top 6 .... and lately hes the jets best player.

TDL moves post Serg injury
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brolekb2b</b></div><div>Absolutely agree that we've got to go in on this season somehow, come too far and battled too hard to let go of it. Question is whether or not its better to ship off more draft assets or make a splash with one of our top guys in Gauthier/Howard to try and land a better player instead. Regardless it's a tough deadline and off-season for JBB and I don't want to be in his position one bit</div></div>
I know people value first round picks, but typically, once you get past 20, its a crap shoot and you usually end up with 3rd-4th liners. If i was GM and i could trade late first rounders for NHL players, i would probably do it more often unless there was someone i really wanted. I know Gauthier is having a good season in the Q ... and i actually thought the Habs would draft him before trading the pick for newhook. Howard not sure how he is going but i would personally be more inclined to trade the first, unless Howard is falling apart. You get what you pay for at the end

TDL moves post Serg injury
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brolekb2b</b></div><div>I can't lie I'm all for the delusion of thinking we've got a serious chance, I really am. The one thing that does bother me though is how empty the asset tank is after this, and almost all for rentals anyways.. we just simply dont have much room at all to get something going. We've got nothing of value and nothing to really get value. Have to play it super conservative or super smart.</div></div>
Excellent comments. At this stage, with the talent on this team and with Stamkos' potentially last season, dont they have to take another run at it ? Yes, they lost a massive piece in Sergachev (I am a Habs ) but they still have so many other high end pieces ... i think they have to go for it ... supersmart is the way to go about it , totally agree. One or 2 value pick ups and hope for the best.

getting Monahan is a good move for the Jets , but he needs to stay healthy. Jets have a solid team that can compete. Leafs are now the 4th best team in Canada

moving up at the draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jamnjon</b></div><div>Looking at The Athletic's pick value chart, pick 5 is 8.2 GSVA and pick 7 is 7.1 GSVA, so the gap is 1.1 GSVA. Picks 61-64 all carry a 1.1 GSVA value. I've also noticed when looking at trades, the team moving up seems to pay a bit more than The Athletic's chart suggests (for instance, the Coyotes traded up to pick 11 a couple years back and it cost them 27, 34, and 45 which was a surplus of 1.8 GSVA, or the value of pick 45). A 5th round pick is worth 0.2 to 0.3 GSVA.</div></div>
as i said below ...
Thanks for correcting me. I probably misread the chart but the point is its not 3 first picks to move 2 spots. That's a ludicrous offer and a terrible misuse of assets. On top of that i dont see a difference in picks 2 to 10 in this years draft

The MOST that the first pick in the 5th round moves you up two slots is from pick 52 to pick 50.</div></div>

google NHL draft value chart. The usual price to move from 7 to 5OA is a 5th round pick . What you are suggesting is out in left field
