Lineup after trade and signing
I think Stanbo is done for the offseason, except for whatever he does with Perlini. If a reasonable solution come up to move Seabs, that is a different story, but highly doubtful.

If we are throwing in Dahlstrom, it should be a 2nd. Definitely not a 4th.

Tough decisions when piggy bank is maxed
Where to start? First off Minny doesn't do that deal. They dont want an older more expensive player. Vegas would have to add a pick and maybe retain some salary for it to make sense to the Wild.
Take 250k from Shuldt and give it to Engalland. Add another 500k to Gusev.
I think it makes way more sense to trade expiring contracts like Eakin, Reaves, and/or Holden.

PK Subban
Why would NJ trade PK when they just got him? Add the rights to Marner and maybe it makes sense. But with retaining $4.5mil per year means also adding another 1st or two.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rusty_Shackelford</b></div><div>Gonna say the same thing to everyone else unaware that decides to sign Ejdsell. The Hawks do own his rights, but he signed in Sweden. He's not coming back this year...if ever. And he wasn't good anyway.
Perlini isn't signing 3 years at that price. Hawks probably aren't sure they want him that long. And it's not enough to entice him to sign that long. He probably wants 2mil for 2 years.
Hicketts is an AHL defenseman. Givani Smith is the equivalent to Graham Knott. Connor Murphy is a valuable dman, regardless of what some say because he isn't fast and doesn't bring offense. He was their best Defensive dman. Just an AWFUL trade for the Hawks.
Anisimov for Vatrano, I'd take Anisimov if we're ignoring salary. Greco is a career AHLer. Anisimov can play center or wing, has size, and can play PK. Entwistle was a PPG OHL player with size. And isn't even 20. And you throw in a 2nd on top of it? Insanity!
You have Kane on the left side. A position he has never played. That makes sense. You have Duncan Keith on the right side. A side he has never played. BRILLIANT!</div></div>
I usually just ignore the ones this nonsensical

Neal back to Vegas

Calgary can't move Neal without retaining a significant amount of his salary.
Also Vegas gets a 2nd round pick. Would you rather have the rumored 2nd and a B prospect? Also Vegas unloads Holden and doesn't have to trade Eakin.

Calgary has the cap room to sign Gusev to the 2 year 4 million AAV deal he is asking for. So, I don't see an issue there, especially since he is projected to be a stud.

So in short you do it because it gives you a 4 year window to very realistically win a Cup.

Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CameronLeafs</b></div><div>Does everyone think Marner is far better than Rantanen, Connor, Laine, and Point? I assume Rantanen, Connor and Laine wouldn't be automatic matches with a 10.4 x 5 offer sheet, and you would keep 2 first round picks. Thats why this Marner speculation surprises me.
I realize Point is a tougher situation due to the no tax in Florida, and Rantanen likely gets matched, although I can't say that with 100% conviction. I, biased or not as a leafs fan think Marner is better than Connor and Laine, but for less of an AAV and saving 2 first round picks, I'm not so sure.</div></div>
This roster is top contenders for all 4 years. Those end up being late 1sts. Think of it as renting Marner for 4 seasons and the price each season is a 1st.

CHI had Ian Mitchell and Adam Boqvist coming up and they're a great talent pool for the Blackhawks.

I feel it's a fair trade. Both are top NHL ready prospects. I would rather have the guy we groomed and know, but that's kind of a tie breaker. The rational has to be they chose Borquist over Joker. And they did trade a position of depth as they do have Mitchel, Krys, Beaudin and other top D prospects.

Keeping Cat Strome and Lehner under the cap
You aren't getting that much draft haul for AA especially for only one season.
If you back the Brinks truck up to Cat you might as well do it for 8 years.
I imagine the cap goes up to 83mil, so you should have a little more breathing room.

Everybody is a fan of Jokiharu. Put down the crack pipe. You dont give away 3 good young pieces for a 2nd. Especially Joket who is a potential superstar.
And I also doubt you can move the disaster that is Seabs contract that easily.

What if Lehner signing means Crawford is LTIR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stan_Bowman</b></div><div>My guess is that Stanbowman saw that there was a very good goaltender on the market, which he had space to sign for a one year deal, and decided not to bank on prospects for the future, but instead on a 1 year prove it deal on Robin. Crawford has either told the front office he is retiring for his health next year, or the front office has lost confidence in his ability to stay healthy and play at a high level. If Robin plays at a high level, we sign him to an extension as soon as we are eligible to give him 8 years. If not, no harm done and it is possible a team takes a chance on him at TDL.</div></div>
I'm not saying this is what's happening. I'm saying what if. What you said is definitely more likely, except the 8 year deal.
