Rumors of teams who may be looking to deal
I like Kakko and I’m a big supporter, but the rest of the trade isn’t good value. We already have a youngish starter potential goalie who is inconsistent in Adin Hill. We don’t want another overpaid defenseman that will stop us from playing young players. Robertson and the 2nd are meh at best.
What I would ask for Meier right now is: Meier for Kakko, 2022 1st, Nils, and Othman (or a mix of Brett Berard, Kravstov, and Dylan Garand).

We have the space this year for Kosk, it’s next 3 years after that there’s a crunch. So resigning him will only be doable at 1M

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div>Thing is it’s a very young defensive unit with Trouba being the veteran at 26 years old, which is why I want Ekholm even if it’s just 1 year as a mentor to the younger players. I mean I agree with the need for a 1 year veteran D, but Ekholm is a lot more than that and if you're not resigning him long term, he's not a good target to acquire. I think you could get what you want in terms of being effective / veteran from someone like McCabe or Nemeth who won't cost much or require a long term investment while still being solid on and off the ice.

Honestly not a bad job on the Eichel deal. Most folks on here haven't adjusted their value to Eichel's injury.
Pull out Kravtsov, swap Jones for Schneider and drop the retention and you're pretty much there.
That Ekholm deal isn't close though. But since you swapped Jones for Schneider you don't need Ekholm.

A coherent well put together point. Maybe there is hope for cap friendly.

I dont believe Nils has ever played pro on North American ice, which may require some adjusting to. Also, Nils made a career of playing both RD and LD, he actually played a lot of his off side which in NA hockey usually does not work out and is a very difficult transition to make. I think Nils will probably spend some time in the AHL and might get called up when the rosters expand after the trade deadline unless he plays SO good that they have no choice but to call him up. Gotta remember, Nils is a smaller guy and the Rangers are trying to become a more assertive, shut down team.

I agree, which is why I said that I don’t think the trade is likely to happen when I posted it. But if they have Kreider they have the same problem, just a question of whether they’d rather have Kreider taking playing time from the kids up front or OEL doing the same on the backend

In my opinion the Rangers deal is the most evenly matched in terms of money, term, and need. But with the amount of D prospects they have coming through the system it’s questionable whether they want to do it or not which is understandable. Guess it comes down to how the Rangers view their guys internally. I wonder if the coyotes added a small sweetener (Crouse?) if that would make the deal worth the risk for the Rangers

We have 0 need to win the cup this season. Loaded with youth, let them season and tweak the roster as needed. Maybe allow the bonuses to be paid off

I agree but the logical thought is either they feel less inclined to do things bc of bonuses and will make some more small signings or they’re working on trades whether or not it’s small trades or package trades with deangelo Buch, etc is another q but they’re taking it slow for sure. Hope they go after dunn and maybe package deangelo, Buch+ for a center

Robertson is a very good D prospect and a puck moving one as well. Strome was on pace for 70 pts, yes with Panarin, but he had a career year as well.</div></div>
Still doesn't benefit the Ducks, Murray isn't going to weaken his leftside just to improve his rightside. Lindholm isn't going anywhere plain and simple.

Definitely an interesting team. I feel like it’s almost 100% that in 1-2 years, Strome, DeAngelo, Buch and Georgiev (if Wall can step in as backup) are traded away for more picks and cheap young players. And I’m fine with it because we’ve gotta figure out how to resign Lindgren, Shesty, Chytil, Kakko, Mika, Fox, Kravtsov (unless trades) then the year after Miller and Laf and Nils the next year. Those contracts are gonna get expensive real quick and we need to cut costs and dead weight now to be prepared.

Hoffman is really good just won’t be easy to fit him in. If strome is not here and his near $5m cap hit, Hoffman could make more sense.</div></div>
I feel like long term would be really tough when having to sign Laf, Mika, Kakko, Fox, Shesty, Miller, Lindgren in the next three years. I do agree the price to acquire Nuge seems high, but I don’t think Edmonton would consider doing so unless it was an overpay. And they would probably value Chytil over Strome.

But Bennet for Buch is a hugeeeee loss. They can acquire a better center for him or ya know, move other pieces instead...

Tougher to play against-JD
Totally fair, but Bennett is a 2 way Center who would immediately make us better defensively and is a historically good playoff performer. On a cheap deal I could see JD being interested in him and Chytil and Bennett being the middle 6 C.
Smith/Fast I agree with, reason I signed both is they both can move up and down the lineup relatively easily. I don't think Kravtsov is NHL ready yet, probably a year away still, the Fast/Smith deals allow them to be exposed to the draft or relatively easy deals to move if Kravtsov comes up and becomes a mainstay.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Philu916</b></div><div>Here’s the thing, Bennet is having a nice playoff but is this him maturing and getting better in the league, or is this due to long layoffs with the whole league? It’s kind of hard to throw a 12 pt player in 54 games to a 2C role the following season. Absolutely nothing against a Craig Smith signing, but having both Smith and Fast totally buries Kravtsov. Can’t do that. Even if Kravtsov plays 3/4 line he needs to play this season. I think it’s either Smith or Fast and let Kravtsov be the other RW. I do assume the idea is that Seattle would take one of those 2 in expansion draft but he needs to develop here not Hartford at least not a full season there. Part of why he went back to Russia. Can’t have that again as he’d never come back at that point.</div></div>
