Idk whats going on with NYR

I’m not sure if this really is going for it. Also just my opinion is that Zib will get paid in a few seasons, so shouldn’t they try and go for it or at least improve the C depth if they can now so they can go for it in Zib final year of $5.3M?

Tyler Johnson timing and Tampa sacrifice
No way... we all love McDonagh, but he was traded because Gorton did not want to pay him until he is 37. Tyler Johnson at this point is not a 40 point player, if so just that. Rangers need an upgrade at 2C not a downgrade. A 2 and a 3 is WAY too much to give up to take on Johnson even though “his addition lowers the price on McDonagh.” If it is only a 3rd, and TJ is 50% retained, and McD is partially retained, maybe.

Trade for success
Domi is not a bad player, but didn’t he end up as their 4C come playoffs? I don’t think he is a guy who Gorton should get especially at such a high price tag. Kravtsov has been playing well and seems like if his confidence remains, he’s a future top 6 Winger in NY. The Rangers have Ryan Strome as 2C right now. Domi as of now isn’t an upgrade and if he is, it’s minimal. Strome does have chemistry with Panarin. If any C from MTL comes back to NYR it’d need to be Danault. Obviously Suzuki and Kotkaniemi are the future 1/2 Cs and Gorton isn’t getting either of them.

How is ADA + Strome and more scraps? Robertson is a very big add, and I do not think NYR can trade away Nils as that would mean it’ll be hard to sign Fox when he’s up for an extension. Robertson is a very good D prospect and a puck moving one as well. Strome was on pace for 70 pts, yes with Panarin, but he had a career year as well.

Would Kreider be happy to be the teams 3LW for 6 seasons? He’ll be 2LW this year but if Laf is as good as projected, CK will move to line 3 in 2 seasons.

Lundqvist trade
This would make a lot of sense, look at Marleau last year and Carolina. A 1 was the cost for Carolina to take on his contract and they bought him out so he went to Pitt as a UFA. The goalie FA market is flooded. The only way Hank goes elsewhere before a NYR buyout would be if a team agrees to take on $4.25M which is a lot for a backup at age 38. Ottawa needs to get to the cap floor as well. 3,5,22 and whatever from Isles for Pageau trade... they easily could end up using that Hank pick with the Isles pick to move into the teens. This Hank pick could crazily speed up the rebuild.
For NYR, this should only be an option if they’re looking into going hard after a 2C and top 4 LHD that they’ll need the space for, you can’t do this just to keep your RFAs who helped get swept in the play in round.

Love him but he’s 30 and can’t stay healthy, 3 more years only but if he’s not playing, it doesn’t help.

Building Your Contender

I think NYR is going to really push for him</div></div>
Is Jeff Gorton willing to put it out there and ruin his reputation as a GM? I feel like it’s an unwritten rule that you don’t offer sheet, and if you do, other GMs will basically lose respect for you and not be willing to trade with you.

If NYR could sign Cirelli for 2 years $4.2M AAV, I really wouldn’t see TB shedding that to save $1M just for 1 season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BSpadaro83</b></div><div>Strome is in the same boat as Hayes, Arbitration eligible for 1 year deal is the only option, cant be 2 since he is 1 year from UFA. 4.75m is the evo wild projection on a 1 year deal. No way he gets 6m+ in Arb.
Tony D is 2 years from UFA, so Rangers will obv elect for a 1 year award in Arb. Evo wild projection for him is 3.75m for 1 yr, i knocked off 250k for him being an idiot and challenging NYR fans to fight him on twitter.
ADA has more leverage than he did last year, but not as much as one would think. Rangers have control for 2 more seasons and can still kick the can another year before they decide to move him or lock him up.
I said 30-40% chance Hank retires. Decent amount of twitter rumors from the Euro guys on what Frolunda is doing and if they are prepping for Hank to join.</div></div>
Hayes wasn’t on pace for 70 points though which is why I feel like Strome can win $6+M in arb? If ADA would only get $3.75M for a year that’s fine, but you also have to remember that they can file ARB and if NYR say it’s too much to pay for 1-2 years, they become a UFA. Is arb the team option of length 1 or 2 years?
Also who on twitter do you follow so I can check that out? I used to follow Igor Eronko but how he got promoted to AGM.

So just my opinion. Henrik has not publicly announced a retirement. I don’t think that Frolunda can say “Hank is here to stay” until an announcement either way has happened. This isn’t me saying there’s no chance it happens, or a big chance it happens.
Also would love the Dillon signing. Not too sure if TDA and Strome take 1 year deals. Strome easily can say “okay, you want 1 year? Nice I will go to Arb and get $6-$7 M for that 1 year.” ADA can do the same thing. I don’t see them doing 1 year deals and risk injuries. ADA just agreed to do that and bet on himself and earned a payday somewhere.

What does this trade accomplish? Still a hole at C and it just can burn a year of Panarin contract and burn one of the final years of Zib on a cheap deal. LD is still a possible problem, Miller is a rookie. He can be very good but it’s too early to force him into a top 4 role and Hajek has been battling injury.
