Hey they got him for a 6th rounder, so I'll just tell myself they traded a 6th round pick for a 3rd, 4th and 5th. Sounds like amazing asset management to me.

sell at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>Dumo can play the left, that's true. But Dumo has regularly played the right for the majority of his career in the NHL, especially given the fact he was paired with Pettersson for most of it.
Goligoski is only a <em>slight</em> step down from Suter in that top 4. And it sounds like there's a gentleman's agreement to extend him for another year or two at roughly $2M or so if it all goes well.
Besides, that left D prospect depth is pretty well stacked after the last couple of drafts. O'Rourke, Lambos, Hunt and Peart are all left D. And all have top 4 upside. Hunt and Peart specifically are flexible in that can play either side too.
Depth wise the team is set with Kulikov, Merrill, and Benn. Defensively, the team is set. They don't need Dumo.</div></div>
Dumoulin plays almost exclusively the left side paired with Letang and would be an upgrade on everyone you mentioned on the left side. I'm not disagreeing that they don't need to spend the resources to bring him in as they're set on D, but he would help the team this year for sure.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazWild</b></div><div>I love Dumo, but what makes you think the Wild need another defenseman? Especially for a young cost controlled goaltender who is very likely going to be one 1/2 of the goaltending tandem in Minnesota for the next ten years?
The Wild already have Spurgeon and Dumba for their top 4 needs on the right. And they already have Dumba's replacement in the system having acquired Addison from none other than the Penguins during the Zucker trade, they don't need Dumoulin.</div></div>
I'm not trying to say the trade is perfect or anything, but Dumoulin plays the left side which after Brodin isn't quite as impressive as Minnesota's right side. A top 4 of Brodin-Spurgeon and Dumo-Dumba looks pretty great.

I think something like that Detroit deal is reasonable. You might have to add a pick for them still, but only like a 3rd or 4th. Something to add a little more incentive but nothing drastic.

While I still agree that it's not something the Ducks would want, Simon is a forward.

Same with the PIT trade. If NSH takes on Johnson, there is no way that PIT is getting that 2nd. Turris can still play at a positive and productive level in the NHL as a 2/3C. Johnson is literally one of the worst defenseman in the NHL.</div></div>
If you take out that 2nd and do a straight Turris for JJ and Hornqvist I'm still thrilled as a Pens fan. Hell I'd even add a pick.

I figured it was unlikely. My thinking was that it'll be difficult to move the whole cap and retaining that much isn't much more to them than a buyout and then it's gone in 2 years. DeSmith gives them a cheap and reliable backup to Lehner.

Ideal Offseason
If the Pens actually have to pay to get rid of one year of Bjugstad's contract I'll be upset and a little surprised. His biggest issue has been health, which I understand is a concern, but I do believe that there's teams with the ability to take on his cap hit for 1 year that would be willing to give up a later round pick for him without the Pens giving up an earlier pick. When he's healthy he's a decent bottom 6 player which I think the risk of giving up like a 5th round pick for a team that needs depth is worth it.

Blockbuster With Toronto
I agree with a lot of the other comments that Toronto doesn't even consider that offer for Marner, especially with retention. I think Murray and Tanev would be desired by Toronto, and are available, but they could get much more for Marner so it's not really a good move by them. As for the rest, I agree with others that JJ won't get claimed probably, but Bjugstad I'd be shocked if he didn't get claimed. He's a bit overpaid, but his biggest issue is health. When he plays he's a decent middle 6 option. And I don't think Nashville takes on the cap unless they have already made a separate dump of Turris or someone else with term and salary leaves for them.

We might have interest, but only if we're not giving up a notable asset because I think there might be better options out there for us in net. I think there is a place for Murray out there if you want to trade him, just maybe not in San Jose. Sorry if I came off as a bit of an ass, just throwing that out there.</div></div>
Nah you're good. I appreciate a meme as much as the next guy. SJ is just one of the 5 or 6 teams that are repeatedly mentioned as needing a goalie and I'm a big fan a Lebanc, so I did it. I expect Murray to be going to Minnesota though since Guerin has said he wants a goalie and knows Murray. Either them or Calgary.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeuck75</b></div><div>ONE TRILLION% NO from NSH. WAY too much cap coming back!!</div></div>
I figured it would depending on what Nashville felt they need to do in free agency. My thought was that they don't have anyone due a big raise this off season and Bjugstad's contact is up after next year. I'm personally of the opinion that Hornqvist is still a decent player and would be better than Turris for the Preds and Bjugstad would be fine in their bottom 6. They have the cap space for this year, and then after this year it's Hornqvist vs. Turris which I give the edge to Hornqvist based on the last couple years with an extremely small cap savings to boot.
But it is a lot of cap going back, so I get it.

I also saw that JJ/Gologoski comment and it intrigued me. I strongly doubt it's 1 for 1, but if that could potentially be an option it's worth exploring the cost. Arizona looks like they're gonna be in rough shape.

Big Moves to Come
I don't think Detroit has any reason to bring in Bjugstad. They're not going to compete next year, and it seems unlikely that they'd re-sign him. So unless you're paying them something it doesn't make sense for them, and I do think there are teams out there that would be willing to give a mid round pick for Bjugstad so paying them to take him also doesn't make sense to me. I'd say he has some value to a team that is ready to make a playoff push but needs some extra depth. So I agree with the return, just not the team for that one.

We Need A RD
I unfortunately agree that Johnson will probably be around, but that doesn't mean he needs to be a regular in the lineup. From what I've heard, POJ is deemed ready by Vellucci. If Johnson continues to play over better options then to me that's a fireable offence for Sullivan.
