Theres a clear top 12. Then a few bubble guys and that's it. Id add Bednarik to this and sub out Gridin, Hage, Boisvert and arguably Letourneau, that's it.
Any team drafting in the second half should move out of the pick

When Connor got injured he fell in a similar way. He's 6'1'' 183 lbs. Size doesn't really matter, given Connellys skill and the current scope of the NHL, where smaller players are finding success, it makes me believe that his size isn't a problem.

Nah, right before you someone had him 6th. And either Wheeler or Pronman had him around that high. But tons of guys produce in college. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll continue that way in the pros. Hey, maybe he does great, but is he a better prospect than, say, Dickinson? Or Silyaev? That's seems super far fetched.

After losing Seider to Buffalo’s offersheet, Larkins trade demands to Chicago, and DeBrincats insistent demands to play goalie, new GM Peter Chiarelli maps out a new course in early 2025 to build through big body UFAs. I’d say it’s going well.

Yeah, its Parody. Bob McKenzie is a TSN reporter who has done 'scout polls' as unique way to cover draft (the final ones tend to be someone accurate).
There has always been a pro-Canadian bent to his writings (in good, fun way).
He doesn't hide it. He will even throw in a little "Where are the Canadians?" (almost making fun of himself, in a way).
Canadians are sure things, or even 'generational'...or 'unicorns'
There is always doubt about Americans (or he just uses his commentary about Americans to talk more about Canadians)
So I flipped it around as if McKenzie were an American and how it would sound.

Bob McKenzie Midseason List

It’s Denver…system hockey. So not always easy to judge. But Zeev isn’t putting up points by being their best offensive dman. He is their best dman. I think Zeev ought to be in 7-10 range.
I just find Bob McKenzie’s painfully obvious Canadian homerism to be funny.
(Sometimes he even makes fun of it himself)
In 2015, it was: “McDavid is generational”
In 2016, it was: “it’s Matthews but let’s talk about how he is not as good as McDavid”
In 2017, it was: “Nolan Patrick was a lock, top 1C”
In 2018, It was: “Dahlin, Svench…some other guys, Quinn-something…and then, the Canadians!”
In 2019, it was: “okay, maybe it could be Hughes, but here is why he won’t be best player from this draft”
In 2020, it was: “Lafreniere is generational”
In 2021, it was: “Power is Hedman…Kent is a magician…some Beniers guy, no one thinks Luke is any good”
In 2022: it was “Shane Wright’s draft to lose…tightens grip on #1”
In 2023: it was, “Bedard is generational”
In 2024, now, its…shocker…Celebrini. Because of his point totals as draft-eligible NCAA player. (But the dman who same point total…where’s he from? Oh, he falls out of top-10 and doesn’t get mentioned).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>I hate that term, a Ferrari is better than an F-250 but not if you want to tow a trailer or go off road. Just because a player is the best player available doesn’t mean he is the best player available for your team. Now if Dickenson was an Elite generational talent and the next options are depth players and long term projects yea BPA, but if the option that fits a huge need is almost as talented as the better player who plays a position your already stacked at for the foreseeable future then you have to make the smart decision. Dickenson might end up the better player but Lindstrom could fill a huge hole in the sharks future lineup and provide far more value.</div></div>
Ferrari: $300,000
F-250: $50,000
One can sell the Ferrari and purchase six F-250's
I hear what you are saying...but BPA is usually best route.
(also...lefty/righty is overdone...Devils won three cups with no more than one righty on roster...in the first, they had six lefties).

Updated WJC Rankings with Analysis
Great list. Always looking forward to read your rankings and mock drafts. Love the comparable and the reasoning.
Eiserman is about to break Caufield's goal record in the USHL without anything close to Hughes or Zegras as linemates. He's still top 3 imo.
I think Dickinson is still ahead of Buium even after WJC. Even if Buium has better offensize creativity, Dickinson is better in every other category.
I agree Silayev talent wise is out of the top 10, but a team will reach for him just like Arizona did with Simashev last year.
Parekh defensive plays has me worried too, but his offensive upside and the fact that he's RHD push him in the top 15.

As a sharks fan I get that RD is a huge hole in our system! But you can find good top 4 RD in the mid to late 1st round easier than you can a #1 C. Think sharks take Celebrini here and look for a RD like Yakemchuck with the PIT pick and their 2nd.

My current 2024 rankings
Trevor Connelly, on talent alone, should be top-5 or 10. He is the best skater in this draft and his game resembles Jack Hughes in a lot of respects. The edges, the vision…he just doesn’t play with top linemates to put up crazy numbers.
He is much further down on people’s lists due to an unfortunate social media post a few years ago (and some saying he shouldn’t be drafted at all). But since that mistake, he has done everything right. He owned his mistake, he talks about it, he has done tons of education, community service and has view that he is not done making it right. All it takes is one team to see him as draft-worthy.

Vilardi should be a core piece for Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Playersoverpayed</b></div><div>Over and over again, big D-men are getting back bigger returns than fans expect. If speaking about MTL, remember the Chiarot trade? It was 1st round pick + additional pieces. Durzi's biggest asset are his age and another team-friendly contract. But at the moment, Edmundson : Durzi could very well be 1:1 hockey deal.</div></div>
All I'm hearing out of MTL is that Hughes wants an overpayment on this guy or that guy. So, I'm skeptical that they would do Edmundson for Durzi 1:1. So, going back to one of your earlier comments about giving up 3 first for an injury-prone Chychrun, I think LA is the only team that should be doing it. They aren't in a win-now mode but adding him is addressing a need, they also have a deep prospect pool so they can afford to overpay as opposed to other teams. They are better off overpaying on Chychrun than Edmundson though. At the end of the day, they can't keep everyone.
Now, if they think Gavrikov or some other defender is a better fit than Chychrun then they should pursue them for that reason rather than a lower price tag.
I think you are absolutely right about moving Vilardi since they don't have too much cap to work with and have raises due in the next two years. So moving at least one piece that is NHL-ready makes sense especially if it saves them from having to trade a current 1st and prospects that they can hold onto a bit longer and use for future moves when they are in their contention window.
Might be worth giving up the current 1st instead of 2024 one and a 3rd, if there could be a Vejmelka and Petersen swap included. I do think Petersen can make a comeback and might even be significantly better than Vejmelka, but the lower cap hit could help LA going forward.
