Sharks would also take a simllar deal to what you are offerring CBL. We'd send Duclair instead ol Jenner. No retention on Duclair, no 4th rounder to Edmonton.</div></div>
I do like Duclair and think he'd be a great get for them, but with the strapped cap situation and other needs like a goalie and 3C as well as maybe another dman I don't think he's on their radar.

Okay that's fair enough, do you think if it was two firsts in that deal they would consider? I don't follow CBJ so I'm not sure exactly what their strengths and weaknesses are, but I did hear that maybe they'll be looking at moving Provorov at the deadline potentially opening up a spot on LD. I guess it all depends also where CBJ sees themselves in their rebuild. If Jenner really is not available unless its a massive move then probably not worth it.

Is that just because he's the captain? I have a hard time thinking CBJ isn't listening to offers for everyone. If you said they wouldn't take the deal I put out that's fine, I just don't see how he could be an untouchable. But I also don't follow them whatsoever

I understand that it's not ideal by any means and I don't think it will happen, but it would actually clear up cap space for the next 4 years. The cap savings the next 4 years would be 3.5mil, 3.8mil, 2.6mil and 2.3 mil. The 4 years after that it would cost the oilers 1.5mil per season which won't be that big of an issue IF the cap rises the way they project it to by then.

If that's the most they'll go then SJS will never trade him. Anyone whose looking to add him wont have the cap space to make that work. And I don't think Grier wants to keep Karlsson at 11.5m for the next 4 seasons so I do think they'll go up from the original 18% they said.

I agree, SJS wont retain that much. But imo EDM needs to get it to around 6mil. So maybe they try to get the sharks to 25-30% and another team takes the other 20-25%. A deal like that has never happened i dont think and i cant imagine Ken Holland being the first. Would be interesting to know what the discussions are like.

I’m well aware that They would not be able to move Nurses contract. Doesn’t mean I don’t want it to happen. Nurse is an untouchable on this team regardless of what he makes because he’s friends with Mcdavid.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>They have LHD set up for 4 years already. Kulak is the 2LD until such time as Broberg surpasses him, then he's a 3LD until his contract is over. If Samorukov or Niemelainen pass him he can be traded (he doesn't have any trade protection) or moved to the right side.
Chychrun is better than Kulak, but I think Holland made his choice in the summer. He did try to land Chychrun but when Armstrong insisted Broberg be part of the deal Holland walked away and went with Kulak instead.
I don't agree with that assessment. Nemo hits a lot but often takes himself out of the play seeking big hits, and he has zero offensive instincts. Dima has been quietly effective but against mostly AHL comp, offensively he deferred almost completely to Barrie.
Plus Broberg has a much higher ceiling then either.</div></div>
I think best case scenario is Broberg turns out to be a similar level of player that Chychrun is right now so that’s where my thoughts of why not make that move to better the team while we have the window. Like you said though Holland won’t trade him so this trade doesn’t really matter. Just something for me.
I agree that Broberg has the higher ceiling for sure, but how long are you willing wait for Broberg to become that top 4 guy? All I meant was right now I don’t see Broberg being above and beyond Neimo or Samo on the depth chart, they’re all pretty close imo. Making Broberg the dispensable one if you’re upgrading the LD by trading him because he has the most value. I’d rather have Nurse Chychrun Kulak down the left side starting right now for the next 3+ years.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense for Edmonton to submit the high bid for Chychrun, as they have their top-4 LHD set for the rest of the decade and they don't like playing defensemen on their offside.</div></div>
Learn something new everyday! I don’t see why Edmonton wouldn’t be going after Chychrun, other than maybe his injury history. If they added him they’d have their entire LD set for the next 3 years no question. At this point Broberg is a question mark as to what kind of player he’s going to be. Maybe he’ll be a top 4 one day but they can’t wait for him to develop. Plus Samorukov and Neimelanen can make Broberg dispensable imo. Especially right now since I think they’ve both out played him in preseason.

I agree they should probably keep him at this point if the return isnt great. I think the only concern is his arbitration rights and what he might be able to get from them is a little too high. My thinking was to recoup some cap space so holland has some flexibility throughout the year.

Soucy better defensively. Barrie is much better offensively. Most teams still want right shot offensive defensemen, like CD282 said, they are hard to come buy. If you compare my Barrie trade to the Tony DeAngelo trade I think I valued him correctly.

What I would do
I do think this is probably pretty realistic in the fact that they wont be making a lot of moves.
Enough though Broberg has shown that he can play the right side, I don't like putting a rookie on his offside. Id like to see them add a bottom pair RD and rotate Broberg in and out as 7th, help him transition a little bit to start the year. I also feel like if they are going to re-sign JP it will be at the expense of foegele and they'll try to find a cheaper 3rd line option (if Holloway does get 2nd line minutes). Last thing, I think they could find more value in the 1st rd. pick depending where you trade Kassian, I don't think you need the 1st attached to him.

So they are going to over pay for deangelo then? Barrie can slot into that role perfectly imo and will be cheaper than what deangelo will want.
JP is 6 years younger than fast and produced at a similar rate. And he’ll only get better where fast is a career 30 point guy.

Oilers don't take that. They are very high on Holloway hes not going anywhere. And Tyson Barrie is not on a bad contract what so ever. Hes still one of the top offensive defensemen in the league, id say his contract is exactly what hes worth.

This is wrong, IF Keith retires then his 5.5m AAV would come off the oilers cap. Bill Daly said that the Oilers wouldn't receive the extra 3.4m cap credit that comes with Keith because of his very heavy front loaded contract he signed with the Blackhawks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jassan28</b></div><div>Some tips I'd give on my research, McLeod contract is too high with too my term for a player that has shown a step from the AHL to the big league this year, I'd give shorter bridge deal with contract between mid 1 million. Kulak isn't my type of veteran D nor is Miller to make this roster better, the perfect name I want is someone like Nick Leddy or trade/sign from the Islanders defence corps. Miller can be really good if he shoots the puck more and continues defensive development under Manson. Husso can be signed by everyone at that price so I see his contract near 5 million give or take. Barrie won't be something a team wants so it'll be a Marleau type deal but not involving 1st rounders going the other way unless an asset comes back. Kassian can't be traded unless key Assets go the other way like a 1st round pick. Foegle isn't special unless our 2nd rounder goes rather than 3rd for Fischer and a 4th or 5th rounder</div></div>
That’s a pretty good break down. With mcleod I just figured you could maybe steal a couple years on a good contract if he continues to take steps forward, slight overpay. I think you’re wrong about Barrie, I do believe there is definitely a market out there that the oilers could get a good return on but it’s about finding the right fit for him. Husso is a bit of a hope and prayer kind of contract lol. I’m a fan of both kulak and Miller so that’s where those come from. Kassian I’m probably out to lunch on but I can’t get a gauge on what a trade would look like and Foegele in comparison to Fischer has almost always had better numbers.

Interesting, I did not know that. While that definitely muddies the waters for the left side. In a olympic or world championship tournament chemistry is a huge deal. Personally I think Toews is better but even if its close, the fact that Makar and Toews play together gives him the upper hand in my opinion.

I still think barrie has value on the market for sure. But at the end of the day hes been extremely poor this year. The one thing hes supposed to be an expert at hes struggled to do so imo his value at the moment has dropped a bit. If the oilers can address a goalie and atleast another D i could see them unloading barrie to free up the cap and try to retain some picks they have lost. Holland loves his draft picks. Trading him could also be an offseason move.

Whose giving away a 2nd rounder for Pysyk? I think he's a valuable player but come on that's an overpay for sure, id be surprised if they got a 3rd for him. I also don't think getting rid of koskinen is going to cost that much. Sure his cap hit is tough right now but that's only for the rest of the year (30ish games). Lagesson isn't a sexy prospect but he's been playing some steady hockey as of late. I think a 5th rounder included in that is close.
