Along with my suggestions, yes. They'll get healthy eventually too which will get them out of their slump.

If they're going to trade away another 1st rounder, they desperately need to use it on a scoring wing.</div></div>
Coyotes take the deal because this is the best draft since 2015 and everyone is trying to get first rounders (meant to make it their 23 first not 24). Isles do it because in order to get boeser, they need cap. They dump varly and get vej who would be more of a 1B than a backup. All of a sudden the isles have the best goalie tandem since the knights had lehner and maf at the top of their game. They don't need to use the first on a winger because they already got boeser.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>-Personally don't think the Islanders as currently constructed should be sending out picks for veterans with high cap hits - as you said, the rest of the roster isn't contender-level and I don't think that adding Boeser is enough to drag them into the playoffs in the first place.
-Arizona says no; even if they don't, Varlamov and his 16-team NTC say no. You're basically giving them a more expensive rental goalie, a 1st next year, a 3rd, and a $250K obligation on top of that for an incredibly good goalie. Arizona might be taking the long way around a rebuild but Vejmelka is still young enough to be an important part of it - I don't see them moving him for anything short of an egregious overpay.
-Parise's third on the team in goals and makes the absolute league minimum. I could easily see him getting a 2nd or a 3rd & an interesting prospect at the deadline - dude plays all three phases of the game, and can slide up and down the lineup. Smart contenders love a Swiss army knife like him - he can do anything you ask him to.</div></div>
Good point on Vej trade but even though Parise's been good, I don't think his 40 game sample size as an expiring 38 y/o who was awful last year is enough to justify a high pick. Maybe by the deadline if he keeps up this pace I could see someone paying a third but if hes still playing well by then and the isles are pushing for playoffs it doesnt make sense to move him anyway.

They also should be able get at least a 3rd, if not a 2nd, for Parise given that he's on a 20 goal pace at a league minimum cap hit.</div></div>

Varly not worth that return and mayfield is nowhere near worth that return. maybe tampas first and a mid/late round pick at most.

Ridiculous overpays for both players. As good as rico is offensively and as cool as it would be to have him back, he's near the bottom of the league in defensive play. We could probably get rico for almost free if we wanted and domi for a second.

Love this deal for the Devils but it will never happen because management is still to high on blackwood and stillman. Vej would become a top tier starter on a good team.

The value is fairly even but as fund as it would be, the devils don't need another undersized center. Boeser may make a little more sense.

Adding a bunch of middle-6 forwards when the biggest problem is that too many forwards are middle-6 and not top line. Making these moves locks us out of getting a proper high-end winger in the future, whether it's via trade this year, or signing next offseason.
It sucks to say "maybe next year", but there's a good chance that several high-end wingers will be available next year. Adding a much of meh to the core locks us out of that.</div></div>
Wood is good middle six winger when healthy. That's a need in Seattle. Fleury hasn't panned out the way I think management expected he would. Change of scenery makes sense for both. I hardly think Strome and ERod are meh players. Strome is a 50 point scorer with unreal analytics at 25 years old, still a year or two out from his prime. ERod is a MUCH needed two way winger that is responsible in the d zone and can be an efficient transition puck mover. I think at this point the best bet is to hope Hughes breaks out and gets even better and hope that other core players like Hischier, Dougie, and Bratt can be the stars the team needs with these new support pieces.

Hypothetically, Holtz wouldn't stay on the fourth line for long, if he earns his minutes Johnsson's spot is wide open for the taking. every year the devils get hammered with injuries too so if he earns it, he can pretty easily push for top 6 minutes. these line combos aren't set in stone as I said in the description.

Realistic 22-23 Season Opening Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tintin</b></div><div>I don't mind the guys you signed and agree with your overall approach, however:
- As much as I love Bratt he shouldn't be getting more than Hischier. It's not like 8 x 7.5m would be a bad contract for him, but I don't see him signing a long term contract outside of the 6.3 - 7m range.
- Boqvist should get about 1m less, think Siegenthaler's last deal is a good comp for him (and Zetterlund).
- If Wood signs for one year slightly below his QO that'd be great, but realistically I'd expect both him and the front office to be happy with him being around for one more year at 3.5m.
- That's a bad Husso contract, his resume is too short to warrant any such AAV. A 4 x 4 might be fine just to make sure the Blues cannot match but 5m is just reckless. That last year could really hurt when Hughes, Holtz, Mercer and Slafkooley are through their ELCs.
- E-Rod isn't a great contract either, I'd rather offer (+ a little more AAV) that to Palat, Copp or Nichushkin. Or go cheaper with Marchment whom had similar impacts and better production.
- Rather have any of Cooley, Nemec or Jiricek at #2 ahead of Slaf, but if you think Juraj is BPA at #2 I can respect that opinion.
It's a good team overall.
Barring simultaneous goaltending injuries, they should make the playoffs via WC I'd think.
Shows how much the Devils could achieve with having some faith in further developing the core while addressing needs in key areas.
Thumbs up.</div></div>
I'm a huge fan of jiricek but at this point all signs point to slaf (who I still don't mind, just riskier IMO). I overpaid a few free agents just because I feel like Fitz used the "we are on the verge of a playoff run" card last year with dougie, tatar, and bernier and it may not work again this year after how bad the team played.

i dont see NJ getting lucky with free agents this year without overpayments. you could argue husso is overpaid here too. Too an extent I dont mind overpaying for guys on the better side of 28 with potential to have an impact. GMTF pulled out all the tricks last year to get dougie and the season was a disaster. To make myself totally clear, Broberg has clear potential to be a good player. This is the cost to get Muzzin. Although there is clear risk, it could pay off big for Edmonton. Muzzin is a proven top 4 guy that Broberg may not be for years. Muzzin should also have at least 2-3 years good years left in the tank to help the Oilers get into the finals.

2022 Predictions - Past Trends over Rankings
Super interesting and in-depth analysis of each pick. I like Savoie and Kemell higher than where you have them just because of how explosive and flashy they both can be. I think you're spot on with Jiricek but where I disagree is the difference between him and Nemec. I think both guys are comparable defensively but Jiricek's proven offensive upside puts him head and shoulders above Nemec who in my opinion has been inconsistent on offense at best. Great mock though.

wood is good when healthy, that doesn't change the fact that he endured a severe injury that no one seems to know anything about besides the fact that it regards his hip. nhl players seem to have the most trouble with hip injuries. wood is good, but he consistently played a bottom six role, he is no more important than zacha but people just hate zacha because he was a high pick. to argue that he is totally off the table in terms of trades is just false. if you wanted to argue hes worth more than the fourth thats fair, I can see him fetching a third. not to mention new jersey is going to be loaded with depth at the wing after this offseason especially if they draft slaf.

im a fan of broberg and i think he has potential but when he did play he was bad. he couldn't control turnovers and was a disaster everywhere else in the d zone. the underlying stats for the games he played back it up, he ranked in the 19th percentile for WAR and the 30th percentile for EV Defense. to say he held the same value he did a year ago would just be wrong. my point is with keith is that holland is capable of making "win now" moves for veterans even when they are highly questionable.

wood is definitely going to be available this summer. a likely divide in contract expectations and handling of his injury will definitely force NJ to look to trade his rights. as for broberg, the oilers refused to trade him before he finished the year as a significant underperformer. the potential is there for sure, but I think after the run the oilers had this year, Holland will be very tempted to double down on his win now approach and get muzzin who can immediately impact the team.
