It was fine at the time b/c Skjei-Smith was an awesome middle pairing for NYR in 2016-17. The contract that Smith got, as well as Berggren panning out, make this trade look worse than it truly was.

Still, I guess you could say that every rental trade is bad if your team doesn't win the Cup?

Even though Wheeler is past his prime, he can still put up points. Getting him for nearly league minimum is absolute highway robbery.

Just... no. Why would you ever give a player like Reaves this much term? Even if he was much younger, it's not good.

Normally this is a fine contract for a 3RD, but Schenn is too old for the term and money to be a good idea.
