I don't think Montreal is sending their 2nd round pick in the trade. You're basically moving up a few slots and taking a $6.375m contract. They might send something back but definitely not their 2nd. lol

I doubt the Habs are sending a high pick back. The 1st is for Monahan's Salary. they might take a lower values contract back but that's about it... They have 0 leverage in the trade hence the 1st being tied to it

Understandably, but with looking at how teams in the Atlantic this year is treat assets, I wouldn't be to much in a hurry. In around 5 years, the atlantic will suck. Florida. Tampa, Boston will be lottery teams and depending on Matthews, Toronto might be too. It will be an exciting time just need to wait a year and enjoy the young talent we have.

I think that may be a good thing. You don't need to be good this year, just competitive and developing young players. No need to be great.
trading for Dadonov was a steal, 50% at the TDL and you shed basically $8m for the next 3 years and ~$3m for this year. Now they can take on contracts in order to load up on assets and get a shot at the trade lottery. Look at the Atlantic, it's not going to be a "let's try for the playoffs" year.

I don't think it would be that hard. He needs to get used to North American ice and I am sure he will be given some games in the NHL but I'd consider Laval purely due to cap implications. Letting that contract slide one more year is essential. I can see them letting stay in the NHL, but that means they need to lose a high salary winger, which is not idea considering they need to pay to get rid of them

Drouin is healthy to play and Price will start out the season, whether he stays or not only time will tell. Armia needs to play so they can trade him as fast as possible. They need to raise his value, so making him sit for $3.4m is not an option. Schueneman and Pezzetta are better in Laval if they are sitting as well.

LMAO such a terrible trade. I really don't understand some Habs fans, it might just be for "fun", but unrealistic... it's the fact that some are saying they can have a shot of making the playoffs this year, when looking not only their Division but Conference, they are dead last even if everything goes right.

Montreal Going for the Cup
This team is still not enough for a cup. With a few years Suzuki, Caufield and Slafkovsky maybe. But next year makes no sense, you are giving up the possibility of being successful over a span of multiple years, to "go for it" for one single year. Best thing to do is get another high draft pick and let the young guys gain experience in this league and develop the depth.
Look at the past 10 or so stanley cup champions. How did they win? They won with players they drafted, while adding temporary depth/support players at the trade deadline. You don't win cups with UFA signings. Don't give away future, best to bet on your development capabilities than to trade for overpaid players like Seth Jones, who has a full NMC and I am sure we won't want to come to Canada.
Price isn't even guaranteed to be able to finish out his contract. It's really not worth it.
Just be patient wait one more year, be excited for the young players, hope for their success. If you want to watch a team going for the playoffs, I suggest being a fan of the Laval Rocket for a little, they should stack that team and surround their young prospects like Roy, Mysak, Slafkovsky*, Mesar*, RHP, Norlinder, Guhle, Barron, etc. with good players for them to learn and develop properly.
It takes time to build a sustainable championship caliber team. You don't want to rush it. Look at teams that have rushed it, like:
- Toronto, Tavares was a UFA signing that pushed their window open and where are they now?
[some] Teams are now learning that you need to develop. Let others pay for terrible contracts.
Also, if you don't want to wait time, just look at the Atlantic division, every team is now stacked, even Buffalo got better. Habs are not in anyway making the playoffs. Best to just let the young guys play and have no expectations.

22-23 - Trade Hoffman vs Zadorov
For starters why buyout Byron? He has 1 year left, if unhealthy, due to hip issues, he goes on LTIR, or else he is serviceable and can be dealt with 50% retention at the TDL. Either way you can't buy him out since the period expired, but let's say we still could. Buying him out this year, places more cap restrictions next year, which we don't want. Considering Caufield, Harris will need new contracts next year and you need to save money to resign Slafkovsky and potentially UFAs as well as the 2023 1st round pick. Byron's buyout does not stretch that far out however, you don't want to be spending to the cap every year. You need to be able to get assets for retaining salary, a luxury in this league, something teams use during a rebuild, which is something Habs are not able to do due to terrible cap management.
In order to trade Hoffman he needs a good year, production wise, or else he will cost to be traded. I don't see Habs management doing that especially for left defencemen, which the habs have an abundance of, hence why they traded away Romanov.
I am hoping they can resign Caufield before the season starts to an 8 year deal. Slafkovsky might be forced into the AHL this year, due to cap implications, since they need to sign Dach (hoping a 3 year $2.25m deal). Hopefully we can retain on Drouin, Dadonov and Allen this TDL and get decent returns for the 2023 draft.

Habs are hurting for cap space and are not in the position of trade picks for more middle 6 players or wingers actually that are overpaid.
They would need to move out a bad contract in the trade.
I just saw that you said this team is unrealistic and I understand but just thought maybe you should know that the Habs really can't make a trade like this

jets trying to compete
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boojets</b></div><div>Roy isn't a 1st round pick and Dvorak most certainly isn't a 1st round pick no matter what montreal past GM paid for him. AT his price point good luck getting even a 2nd for dvorak. Oh and that panther pick will be what 28-32? Also much closer to value to a 2nd round pick. Go online google draft pick value, prospect values do some research and just don't be a Homer for the team.
Lets actually look at the pieces and there value using GSAA;
Dubois if traded today likely signs a 8yr deal in montreal meaning his GSAA over that time is around 16.
Montreal 1st lets say it becomes the 5th OV worth around 8.2 GSAA
florida 1st lets say its the 28th OV is worth around 3.1 GSAA
Dvorak over the next 3 yrs of his contract is around 2.5 GSAA
Dadanov is a cap dump to make salary work 0 GSAA (feel free to take him out of the trade)
So Roy to make of the rest of the value has to be worth around 2.2 GVAA which is around the 39th OV pick
It really is about what Dubois is worth.</div></div>
There's one thing you are missing, is that Dubois trade value is current down the gutter. He did that himself. Montreal is also a rebuilding team, they are not going to give up 1st RD picks for someone they can wait 2 years to sign. Dubois has only hit the 60 points total twice in his career, yes he is young, but is a 2C realistically.
I'd rather give up a 2nd RD pick than giving up Roy. I don't expect you to know much about the Habs prospects however Roy can't be apart of this trade. Montreal's 1st RD pick either.

That is way too expensive for PLD even in normal circumstances. You are overvaluing him by way too much.
That's basically 4 x 1st RD picks in the 1st Rounders, Roy (would have been one this year) and Dvorak which costs a 1st.
Then there's Dadonov who can fetch a good amount at the TDL.
That's a massive haul for PLD, who, although young, still has yet to accomplish much of anything in this league. Eclipsed 60 points twice in his 4 year NHL career. Suzuki has done better and I doubt you'd trade all that for Suzuki. Let's calm down a bit.

With how the draft is in 2023 and how Habs are that pick needs to be top 15 protected.
Hughes already said no matter what they are not retaining on Petry. Plus Petry can fetch good picks.
On top of that Habs don't need to make the trade Dubois wants to be on MTL they can wait. This is an overpay for the Habs for a deal they don't need to make.

I can promise you the Habs are not getting rid of an unprotected 1st RD pick even if it's from Florida for Barrie. This helps Edmonton and doesn't really help Montreal in any way.... So the way Hughes has been running things I will need to say that's a no from the habs

Surprise Playoff Run
Yeah I don't think this team is making the playoffs, their division is way to strong, they would not even be able to be a wildcard team with TOR, TBL, BOS, FLA and now OTT stacking up. (Detroit is getting better they might be a surprise appearance this year too). Hell even Buffalo has a better roster than this.
I doubt they bring back Ben Chiarot, since they have too many LD prospect and risk losing them if they sign him.
Petry will most likely not start the season with the Habs, it's been openly said he requested a trade.
The fact that they have yet to trade Jake Allen makes it seem that Price will probably not play the start, or the entirety, of the season

This is trade neither team says yes to.
Mailloux although a touchy subject is montreal's best RHD prospect, without question. Something they don't have.
Ylönen is an NHL ready prospect that they are taking their time with. I understand adding him, but I don't think they are looking to trade youth.
I doubt they want to get rid of an unprotected 2023 1st round pick.
For NYR, I doubt they move Laf for anything other than a massive haul that helps them to win now and in the future. and it wouldn't make sense to make that trade.
