At this point I'm wondering if he was crazy all along and just stumbled his way into multiple championships.

At least it's not a multi-year deal given Rutherford's recent track record.

Yeah, there's no way that Pittsburgh was going to be able to afford that.

That's a very nice deal assuming that he's the starter going forward.

Nice to see him finally get some term after playing well on three consecutive one-year deals.

(TOR/PIT) - Kapanen, Åberg, Lindgren for 2020 1st, Rodrigues, Hållander, Warsofsky
This has to just be the first of several moves by Jim Rutherford this offseason. Pittsburgh was already hurting for draft picks and cap space, and now they've given up more?

(NJD/ARI) - Hall, Speers for Bahl, Merkley, Schnarr, 1sr round pick, conditional 3rd round pick
Not a ton to get for such a good player, but as a rental of a guy they weren't going to be able to re-sign, it's a decent return. Fair trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayBeagleFanAccount</b></div><div>For a guy who is really carried by MacKinnon, this is way too much money.</div></div>
MacKinnon's production exploded at the same time as Rantanen's. I don't think that's a coincidence. They boost each other's games a lot.

I think he can be a 50 goal man. He just needs to find consistency, and this deal will pay off greatly for him.

Ottawa Senators signed Thomas Chabot (8 Years / $8,000,000 AAV)
That is massive money to give to a player who's played about a season and a half's worth of games. That said, he is a very good young defenceman and locking him up 'til his age 31 season is great news for Sens fans.

Minnesota is the next Detroit, with tons of veterans on long, expensive contracts with no way to get rid of them. But unlike Detroit, they don't have anything to show for it.
