I’m gonna be very interested to see what he gets. I don’t think he gets a 1st, but I’m not willing to put money on that. I do think a 2nd and 3rd is a fair offer to start things off.

Auston trade and extension LA side
I understand it from the Leafs side. Get some good assets for Matthews before he walks away for nothing.
But what's in it for LA? Why wouldn't they just wait until July 1, 2024 and sign Matthews as a UFA and keep those assets?
I keep seeing these similar LA/TOR trades. What am I missing here?
LA fans why would your team make this trade? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

My stab at the Kings
The Hawks aren't really in a position to be sending picks away. It's entirely possible that another team sends a 3rd for Walker, so I don't want to knock the value. It's probably pretty fair to be honest. I just don't think it'll be the Hawks. They need to give their own prospects ice time for their development. Hawks currently have Jones/Muphy locked up as #1/#2 RD. I hope ither Mitchell/Regula get that #3 slot with Zaitsev already on the bench at the RD position.

My stab at the Kings
Remove that 2nd round pick going back to St Louis in that Durzi trade. Late first for Durzi would be reasonable as is.
Lizotte at 1.675m cap and dropping 34 points, while also being 51% on draws makes him more valuable than a 4th round pick. 2nd at minimum in my mind.
I assume Graves gets at least 4.5m a year on his next contract.
Vilaradi also gets more on a bridge deal. 23 goals, 41 pts in 63 games. His bridge could even be 4m x 2 years.
Just some of my thoughts :)

I could see anywhere from 3-7 years on term. He is young enough where I could see teams be open to the longer deal. Most likely 4-5 years between $4.25m and $4.75m. Something along the lines of …
1 years - $7.0m = $7m
2 years - $6.0m = $12m
3 years - $5.3m = $16m
4 years - $4.5m = $19m
5 years - $4.4m = $22m
6 years - $4.0m = $24m
7 years - $3.72m = $26m
…Give or take.

Demko is not a top-10 goalie in the league, and I don't think it's particularly close. Even if you discount his bad 15 games at the beginning of this season, his numbers pale in comparison to what Darcy Kuemper was doing before he got traded for a 1st round pick before the 2021-22 season, plus his cap hit was $3.5M after retention as opposed to Demko's $5M. That's the only goalie that's fetched a 1st round return going back to 2016, so I don't think it's a stretch to say this is a wildly lopsided trade in Vancouver's favor.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mediumyeet</b></div><div>Agree to disagree. Demko was widely considered to be a top 10 goalie last season and on one of the most valuable goalie contracts in the league behind Saros, Shesterkin, and Sorokin for contract value.</div></div>
There's no comparable any time in recent history for this package, though, I don't care how valuable you think he is. There isn't anything you can point to and say "yeah, this is fair value."
The only goalie traded in the last 7 years for an guaranteed 1st round pick was Darcy Kuemper before '21-22. Kuemper's numbers in the 3 seasons before the trade are significantly better than what Demko put up from 2019-20 through 2021-22, and Kuemper did that on arguably worse teams in Arizona than Demko played on in Vancouver. Kuemper also came with retention down to a $3.5M AAV - or, a good chunk less of cap than what Demko is currently going to cost the Kings.
Thatcher Demko right now is clearly a less valuable player than Darcy Kuemper was in summer 2021, so why would LA offer significantly higher value for him than what Arizona got for Kuemper?

Demko is at practice
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Mediumyeet</b></div><div>I don't think that is so clear when you factor in age and term on the contract.</div></div>
Darcy Kuemper 2018-19 through 2020-21: .922 SV%, 2.35 GAA in 111 GP. 31 years old with 1x$3.5M AAV when traded. 2 of those 3 years he received Vezina & postseason All-Star votes (and one year he even got a 5th place vote for the Hart)
Thatcher Demko 2019-20 through 2021-22: .913 SV%, 2.83 GAA in 126 GP.
If traded today, he'd be 27 years old with 3x$5M left on his deal and in the middle of a season where he's put up a 3.93 GAA with an .883 SV%. Only one year of the 3 appearing on any postseason ballots (Vezina and postseason All-Star again)
The only thing he has going for him is being younger than Kuemper was at the time of the trade. I'd argue that the fact that the AAV is significantly higher and has term could be considered a double-edged sword, considering his most recent work is 15 games of .883 SV%/3.93 GAA followed by a 2+ month layoff with a lower body injury. Recent history is definitely not on his side, and I don't think there's enough runway left between now and the trade deadline for him to crawl out of the "selling low" territory he's currently occupying.

Trade Proposal with Big Prospects
I don't doubt that Clarke is gonna be sick, but there's just not much incentive for the Sens to do it. Even if you ignore how strongly Sanderson has been playing and how important of a piece he is to the team, etc, it just doesn't make much sense roster-wise. The Sens only need a top 4 RD because they have the top 4 LDs locked in with Chabot and Sandy. If you swap Sanderson and Clarke, then the Sens are still missing a top 4 defenceman, just on the other side.

Yeah the thing is the Sens need a stay at home more than a puck mover, got too many of those. Walker would pair next to... probably nobody ideally in OTT. Roy would fit everywhere. Must be nice to have the RHD depth that LA does right now lol

"the Goat." is a heck of a title to give to a kid who has 2 goals in 40+ games and is anchoring a team in the bottom third of the league. I'm not trying to take away from Sanderson at all. I really think he'll be a #1 defenseman on a very good team in time, as Ottawa grows its young talent.

OTT needs Rd because of Sanderson and Chabot, so trading Sanderson means they don't have as much of a need for RD.
OTT also says no because Sanderson is more "NHL Ready" to play the top 4 minutes, they don't have the time to wait for Clarke.

Just Fired Dorion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>First of all, Roy isn't being traded because he's too important to the make-up of the Kings current defense. He's criminally underrated in the capfriendly world outside of the LA fanbase because numbers trump everything when you don't know much about a player, and producing numbers is not his job. But for the sake of conversation:
LA wouldn't accept anything less than a 1st + another good asset for Roy. He's their best defensive D-man not named Doughty, and he and Mikey Anderson are the only ones that can consistently eat minutes currently. Its why the Kings are looking for another piece for their blue line to pair with him. For the price of a 2nd, the Kings would move Sean Walker because he's replaceable with the prospects they have in the pipeline. With LA moving Faber out for Fiala, there's no current replacement for the type of minutes Roy provides in the King's system. So, Roy is going to be more expensive than most think if they want to pry him out of LA.</div></div>
Cool, thanks for explaining. Judging Walker vs Roy, obviously anyone would prefer Roy, and the Sens need his type more than anything, Gotta hope lol

I understand your way of thinking and how good it would be for your team to do that swap, However This season Sanderson established himself as a very good top 4 D while Clarke still needs to prove it. Ottawa would fix the RD issue they have but would open up another issue on the Left side. so
1. Sanderson has more value than Clarke at the moment because he's proven.
2. The Sens would create a new hole in their lineup.
3. I don't think you want to do that RD are the most valuable assets in the league rn You should hold onto him.
4. Clarke is a stud and you might regret that in a couple years. He's from Ottawa every NHL player from Ottawa turns into a stud the Level of hockey here is unparalleled. Just look at Mctavish those 2 are the same age and both played AAA hockey in the region.
5. Because Clarke isn't established as a full time nhler I could see PD asking for a second asset in return.

The thing that I want to tell you is that you’re wasting prospects in the minors anyways. Once a forward reaches like 22 and a Dman like 23 and they’re still not in the AHL , they start to lose value. So guys Kupari, ****emo, JAD, Turcotte (soon), etc their time is now. You’re already stacked on forwards and on D as well.
Let’s assume you keep everyone except Walker next year on D. That leaves Anderson, Doughty , Durzi, Spence, Clarke, Bjornfot, Roy, you could even get a 3LD in free agency. Subbing one of your D for Chychrun at the expense of a forward prospect that doesn’t have room to play and a 1st isnt a big ask. You just can’t keep all your prospects , eventually you gotta do a big deal. And the time is now for LA to do that

Don't see how this would work, unless you're adding more defensemen. Clarke and Sanderson are miles apart and the Sens need for D makes me think that even other picks/prospects wouldn't get it done. It'd take an overpay that would also have to include Roy I assume

We have 3 highly paid, good LD. We just acquired McD, and already have Josi. Ekholm doesn't have trade protection. We need RD & cap assistance going forward which makes Ekholm the most logical candidate to move.
The proposal here would give us the pieces needed to avoid a rebuild imo. A vet RD, and quality young RD, a 1st and a 3rd to acquire a couple more quality prospects. Ekholm makes more of an immediate impact now for LA and these pieces impact NSH positively starting as early as next season. This would balance out our backend leaving only a couple issues in the forward core to handle (top 6 C mostly since we have what should be a couple top 6 wingers in the minors).
We're having a very down year but can easily use that to our advantage with a quality trade like this as well as good draft position in a very deep '23 draft. It's not necessarily excitement to move on but more of this is the glaringly obvious best choice to move and receive a quality return like the one proposed here.

We want to rebuild. Initially, we were looking forward to the McDonagh-Ekholm pairing, but they were a trainwreck together. Once the two of them were split up Ekholm was his old self again.
